Sorry... I know it can't do iPhone 4 to the older models because they don't have front cameras but are you saying it can't do calling to other phones that do?
@SteveyAyo .. Well Apple is submitting RealTime to the standards body. I for one would be happy seeing an open high quality video protocol instead of Skype.
Maybe EVO 4G could adopt it. It should be just a software upgrade.
"Whoa, did we mention the iPhone 4 also has videocall camera. They call it FaceTime...And they are still not fully ready with it - in 2010 it will only work over Wi-Fi...And it only works iPhone 4 to iPhone 4..."
It is from FaceTime compatible phones to other FaceTime compatible phones.
If FaceTime gets adopted as a standard quickly there is no reason why EVO 4G and other such phones couldn't support it. Apple has been successful in this type of thing before e.g. ZeroConf, IEEE1394.
@RottingOrange: YOU IDIOTS!!! What other f*cking phones have a Protocol that works on the iPhone?! The phones both need to be able to receive and send video that both phones can open. It's still a standard that's being worked on so don't rip on Apple.
You could say the same thing that the Evo can't videocall with the iPhone 4!
[Clap's Slowly] because none of you could be bothered to actually follow the keynote, your all now making daft assumptions about limitations.
The reason the facetime is iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 only at the moment is because there are no other devices running the new open standard.
The reason its wifi only at the moment is because the carriers are not capable of pushing the video over their networks. Apple has stated its working with the carriers and as soon as they catch up it will happen.
You only have to look at the bad reports of the Evo on Sprint and Qik issues just a day after launch with a small fraction of devices to realise these things!
It make me laugh you hater's choose to criticise whilst carefully leaving out the important details and reasons just to make your snide comments look more noteworthy!! :-)
That would be true if, say, a Nokia phone couldn't already call a WinMo Phone. Another method is nice but it's just another method to go with all the other ones we have already.
@MarkAnderson Sure. It's not hard for them to implement either as almost all phones today have H.264 hardware encoding/decoding. So it something that could be added as a software upgrade.
@SteveyAyo Its the facetime app thats iphone to iphone. They also said that the API is out there for third parties. So it will get video calling to other phones but through other apps.
@drh UMTS always had video as a fundimental part of its specs before it ever existed and you dont need software to do it. As for 4G well it has its problems and will do s ofor a good few months yet just like 3G. You are comparing two mobile communication standards with a phone. I dont know about other peoples details but your point is wasted here.
@taligent Please note that Jobs did say the standard was open, but he didn't say it was free. This could very well mean that anyone can licence it for a fee, but without knowing the pricing, restrictions and so forth I don't think it makes sense to get too excited.
@skyblaze really? and how many n900 nokia has sold in comparison to the iPhone? uh? put your head up, don't be a shame, how many? stop whispering! how many?! I thought so. Go home now.
HP has had plenty of time to fine-tune its finger-friendly TouchSmart software, and now, its newest model, the TouchSmart 610, ushers in a fresh design, highlighted by a hinge that allows the display to slide down and lie nearly flat.

now show the one where they video call someone NOT on an iPhone... oh thats not a feature?
@SteveyAyo That's what I've been wondering. GSMArena says it's just iPhone4 to iPhone4.
True/False? anyone?
@N900
Sorry... I know it can't do iPhone 4 to the older models because they don't have front cameras but are you saying it can't do calling to other phones that do?
Because that really is s**t if it's true.

@N900
It's true. Only from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4.
Weak.

I left out the jokes they made.
@N900 True
@Vincent That's kinda depressing. T.T
@Vincent .. Not true.

@SteveyAyo
dammit my n900 can do video calling to other n900s AND PCs through Skype AND Google talk. OVER 3G
let me say that again.... over 3G...
just let that sink in a little...
@taligent Oh I see. That's a "pretty sneaky sis" move they just played.
@taligent
So if there's a Face Time app - or compatible one - for, say, Andoid or Symbian it'll work? That's not so bad.

So think twice before calling people idiots, hmm?
