Chinese university students build KIRF Bugatti Veyron all-electric vehicle from discarded cigarette packs (video)

In order to raise awareness of the dangers of smoking (or to make cigarettes look even cooler -- we're not sure which) a group of five students at Xi'an University in China have built an all-electric Bugatti Veyron entirely out of old cigarette boxes. This bad boy is the same size as the world-renowned touring car -- a feat which took 10,280 packs of cigarettes and eight months to assemble. While we have no idea what the top speed is, we're guessing it's nowhere near that of the original. Check out the video after the break.

Lol! 1.297 HP
@iucidium
It's smoking fast.
Now for the big question : Can it outrun the real thing :P
@dj99
It can, but it also costs an absolute packet.
@dj99
No, the original would smoke this.
Wow, that's even worse than Stanford's electric car. I didn't think that was possible.

@SeeKo
Nah it can get worse. I made a KIRF Aston Martin One-77 out of blunts for 420 day. Too bad it costs just as much as a real One-77.
Seems creative to me, ultralight I guess?
@HotDog
Take a look at the video at 0:36. Are those actually bicycle wheels or am I dreaming? LOL
this is thing is smoking!!!
but on a serious note how do you support support about 200 kgs with boxes? thats actually quite impressive
Don't underestimate the Chinese. Giv'em time and they will make a robot spoof of the Duracell bunny that can run the New York Marathon, win it, and then swim back to Shanghai on a single charge.
This is just the beginning...
China ingenuity Holy fuck this is cool
looks SMOKING fast
It runs on electicity
why?
@Cam I guess the proper answer should be "Why not!". Sure it is totally useless, but at least it's cool and the students must have had lots of fun when building this ridiculous thing. I wish more schools would make similar projects in stead of the regular boring stuff.
Will this *smoke* the original?
what?
Way too much time on their hands
I can make the same car after smoking 10280 packs of chinese cigarettes. :)
It's one of the most ghetto things I've ever seen!
*urge to resist typing a pun failing...*
i'll bet it "smokes" the competition!
cig boxes? the wheels too?
O there'll be some smoking going on @ 40mph alright
maybe its just me, but this looks like
*puts on sunglasses*
vaporware
yeaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
And this is gadget news because...
@lmwong
...It's on Alt and not Engadget.
Good bet this does not have a cigarette lighter :-)
How many packs do I have to smoke for a Prius?
KIRF is something that is meant to be a real replica, possibly sold on the grey/black market. This is a student project clearly not in that category at all.
With all the iPhone "news" today, you'd think Engadget would have something better to report that a fake KIRF. LOL!
Man KIRFing is so big in China they're teaching them how to do it in school!
I'm sure the real one would smoke this.. but i would love to see this go against the Ferdinand GT3 RS...

I don't know why, but that girl's voice in the video makes me want to hit something...
