Dell Streak gets rooted, now accepting superusers
Yes, we're still waiting on the official release of the Dell Streak over here in the colonies, but abroad it's already available, and MoDaCo's Paul O'Brien has taken his to the root. He's figured out how to make the Streak a more willing partner for your su exploits, and has kindly shared the details. The application process looks easy, just a few steps, and from what we can tell looks to be fully functional, with only the remount command requiring some extra finesse to get working. You can find the full details at the source link and have yours rooted in time for tea.

Old news someone deleted my posts about it yesterday.
@Beatnik
Rooting it is the first step to get Froyo. Developers wil get it sooner than later. I love Dell Streak but I am waiting for bigger screen versions, to me 9 in screen will be ok.
My Nexus One with Froyo 2.2 is Super Fast, and battery lasts 36h instead of 24 h.
@Beatnik Just curious how in the world did you get your N1 to run for 36hrs? Have you rooted it. I would kill for power conservation like that.
@Silverado
Before Froyo, I charged my Nexus battery everyday at 7 am, now I do it between 12 pm and 6 pm. But I dont use it that much, read my email, read engadget news. But believe me at least 30 hours instead 24h without recharging. I love Froyo, it even gave more Free memory, between 100 and 200 MB of free memory, something that was only a dream with Android 2.1. The made it MUCH better.
@Silverado
Excuse me, to answer better your question I have to say that my Nexus One is NOT ROOTED, I only installed manually the Froyo update, thanks God, I made it without killing it.
@Beatnik
This would be really cool if it was a scam.
@HotDog
No scam, it is REAL. If you dont believe me ask someone who has the Nexus One with Froyo installed.
Dell im emailing you my credit card info now
please deliver Streak to house in timely fashion please

I hate old news! If it's older then a day, please do NOT post it on your blog foolish fools of foolishness!
@ce782138
I imagine you as a grumpy old man... :P
@ce782138 Your trolling abilities and bad posting skills are old news. Do you really think everybody is reading every last comment on here and clicking every single link posted. 1 day ago is barely "old news"
@SolidSnake Indeed, you would not want to kick a ball on my lawn.
Foolish fools!
@ce782138 This isn't old news -- the Superboot image and tutorial are only made available today.
@XChrisX Please lower your sarcasm shield, foolish fool of foolishness!
@ce782138 No sarcasm, but it's early here in the states and I'm a little tired at the moment :)
@ce782138 I'd prefer a 1 stop shop that covers 99% of news even if it borders on olds rather than have to scour the interwebs looking for information. That said, I do scour for my wishlist.
@Richard Lai Got'em!!
@ce782138 you've been pwn'd, EPIC FAIL of Foolishness
@ce782138
This new exploit was found by Paul just 4 hours ago...how is that old news?
Can I give him my Sony Ericsson X10?
Can we stop posting non-Apple news for today please? Even i am giddy and nervous, and i will never buy and iPhone because i have no money.
@Sea Urchin Some of us aren't that interested in what Apple is up to, actually. I'm much more interested in the EVO/Streak.
@Sea Urchin
Here is what Steve Jobs going to say today in his keynote.

@Hexydes
I was in the same boat for the EVO/Streak. Ended up with the evo since i get corporate discount from my job and the plans are cheaper. Plus the root with 4g and the wireless tether hack works great :)
@rutter9
Well, I'm assuming also, the fact that the Streak doesn't exist here in the US probably steered you away as well :)
@DizWARE
LOL well that too :) I could of waited the month for it though no problem. I'm actually pretty suprised with Sprint's 3G & 4G. When I had my 3GS I kept losing my data connection driving with pandora on. On the evo (running on just 3g) I have had zero breaks in data transfer where I would on AT&T.
Very happy w/ my purchase
I was so looking forward to moment that I can say to everyone mine is bigger than yours. sigh...
Streak. When are you coming to Canada?
yay... 1.6 has been rooted... \o/ It's like its 2009 all over again. Is Neil Patrick Harris cool again?
@AstroSeven Barney is awesome. Always.
@AstroSeven
Keep in mind that root isn't dictated by which OS, but the device its running on. Every time a new device comes out, an exploit in the device has to be dug up to perform the root. Manufacturers have been trying to make this extremely hard to get rid of all the exploits in their systems, so it is a big deal when the exploit is found, especially when its as simple as this one.
Plz bring news of a Froyo rom for the Streak along with an htc sense overhaul with widgets :)
@Abu Abdillah Without the source, Froyo won't be able to do much. I'm Sure we'll see it soon enough tho
What is a super user?
@TheSunman89
Think of it as Administrative Rights on Windows computers but for Linux instead :)
@TheSunman89
A super user is someone who watches dancing with the stars, and enjoys it.
That was...... fast!
Hmmm so very tempted by this. Want an android tablet however 5" seems a little small.
STOP! You! Over there. I see you reaching for your keyboard! I know what you are typing and stop right now. I know you are typing that's what she said we and we all were thinking the same thing so NO...AH! I said no! I mean it! Everyone was thinking it so don't do it!
:^O
Anyways. All kidding aside I want a 10"er. Seems to be the perfect side for a tablet.
Any cowboy can tell you... the unmount is important, but the mount is really the whole point.
@savagemike
That's what she said.
Sometimes it is better to have something smaller. For instance, Darth maul had a large, twin light saber. Yet Obi, with his inferior sized tool made up for this with usability and skill.
Great power in the streak I sense.
16gb though? It's the only thing stopping me from getting it. 32gb microsd cards are like £80. If this was 64gb or better I'd be all over it. Couldn't you have crammed a full sized sdhc slot in there dell? It annoys me even more when I can get it free on data only for just £20 a month, making the internet practically free.
imagine htc sense on the streak......WIN!
