Some takeaways about the device:
- As we said, it's shockingly thin.
- The screen is truly outrageous -- you basically cannot see pixels on it. We're not being hyperbolic when we say it's easily the best looking mobile phone screen we've ever laid eyes on.
- The build quality is really solid. The home button feels much snappier, and on the whole it just feels like a tightly-packed device, but it's not heavy.
- The side buttons are really nice and clicky.
- iOS 4 is very familiar -- there's not a lot added to fit and finish.
- The general speed of the whole OS is way snappier. The camera app in particular is noticeably faster -- shots get snapped in an instant.

Well they are catching up with the rest of the world slowly! Significant improvement over the last model for iPhone-only users. Still behind the others. By the way, what the hell is Bluetooth iphone-iphone only, FaceTime iphone-iphone. This sucks!

whats with the ugly speaker on the front above the main speaker featured in the shots of the white iphone4. Its not on the rest of the model shots...?
@DLSmith That's the sensors for the proximity and light sensor. It's visible in the white model. Yeah it's really ugly.
It's sexy but yet it still does not have the full web browsing experience. I have a feeling HTC EVO will dominate this year
@jimvegas They weren't using AT&Ts 3G for the presentation, they were using the WiFi network.
why don't they make it a little thicker and put a bigger battery in it?!
@haoqfu Because they made it thinner and widened the battery instead. apple.com click iphone then design then play the video. It shows the internals from old to new.
The white iPhone 4 is ugly with the sensors visible above the earpiece speaker.
The reason apple didnt put 3.5" + screen onto iphone4 is just how closed their os is. They are lazy to put up another "iphone4" section in the itunes for other screen sizes.
I remember when everybody called the design hideous when it was leaked, and now everyone is like it's "sexy" lol Jobs can sell milk to a cow if he wanted to.
So when does the fancy looking iPod Touch 4 come out for those of us that dont want to use AT&T's failure of a network?

I'm even more sickened by apple products now and how at&t likes to f*ck everyone over on their plans. For those who are iphone loyalist I will bet you will ALL are going to have the highest bills. As for me, I'll stick to sprints coverage and I get eveything for 40 bucks a month and my phone has the same accomodations as you do

Actually my bill is going to go down. $15/month for data since I don't go over 200MB/month on average. And your phone doesn't have anything like FaceTime, or the A4 processor, or the high resolution screen, or a gyroscope or anything else they brought up today.
Still nothing for me; I will have to go with something like HTC Evo, coming from T-Mobile, To be able to use a front video camera with skipe

going to put my 3gs 32gb jailbroken iphone on ebay pronto! The only thing is I can't decide if I want white or black :) Leaning towards the white. weeee!
So, will Apple put the same camera and front facing camera on the next iPod Touch? Or will it be another rehash on how the Touch is for games.

I'm sorry but I'm no fan of iPhone's OS (now the iOS?) but they did a good job with the hardware.
I give Apple props with that.
Also, I'm sure there will be a Android OS phone trying to top this and I would be happy to see.

@EggoEspada Actually, the iOS 4 release is trying to catch up with Android. Sure, the hardware is a bit different (not sure about the need for a gyroscope yet, but it looks interesting enough) but there weren't that many "firsts" today.

Wifi only is AT&T's fault. iPhone 4 only is only temporary, as Jobs said very clearly that FaceTime was OPEN. As in, anybody can take the APIs and develop for their platform, whatever that platform is. That would include Android, Windows, whatever. Pay attention.
I'm an Android fan but I can definitely understand people wanting the iPhone4. Apple really does design nice hardware & software.

Facetime quality is amazing! I love when video is choppy and slow.

... I love when clueless people comment on things they don't understand. Just like in the keynote, the lag was caused by overloaded wifi. If you expect it to lag like that when you're using it at home or anywhere else with wifi, you're an idiot.

Sweet phone Apple....gorgeous screen, thin, and that black is sexy. However, for me Sprint + Evo > AT&T + iPhone.

Wow I expected something epic from the new iPhone... everything it has is already here... video chat evo has, and multitasking is old android and palm pre... I don't play farmville so I don't care about that... ill keep my evo and my 4.3 inch screen..

Screen rez is more important than screen size. And once again, Apple isn't claiming that they're doing everything FIRST, so I'm not sure why you morons keep bringing that up. They are doing it BETTER though, and that's what's important.

You're right - Apple has never claimed to be first - for the PC, for the mp3 player, the smartphone, or for multitasking and video chat. They just become the first to really do it in style.

About the screen resolution (960x 640): the Sony DSC-TX7 compact-camera has 3,5-inch screen with 1280x 720 pixels with excellent viewing angles. though it's very sharp, it's actually not that much better than 3 inch screens with about 270.000 pixels. the same will hold true for the iphone 4 compared to the iphone 3gs.
its actually quite sexy, I might get a white one.

It's because of all the heavy wifi usage in the room at the time. Jobs explained that in the keynote.
