They are both INCREDIBLE products. The more everyone picks sides, the more money both companies will continue to make. Isn't competition fun in this capitalistic democratic republic? Enjoy it while you have it ;)
The Retina Display is just nothing but marketing hype, and this is the first and last time I will ever call it that. Henceforth, it is just a high-rez display which has too many wasted pixels. If you've gone past the cognitive limit, than you're wasting money on something you cannot even perceive.
@ANDZT I agree. It comes down to personal preference; if you are a bit more geeky and want unlimited control, grab the Evo. If you want something that just works and does it in a beautiful case, get the iPhone 4.
@wakeup The one spot where the EVO 4G really shines is the ability to make video calls over 3G/4G, and to stream it directly. Add a higher resolution front-facing camera and it seems like a much better implementation to me.
I am also personally a larger fan of Android, but Apple is slowly reaching feature-parity and is generally more intuitive.
This has got to be a joke. The EVO 4g is much better. I don't have either phone but damn lets be real here. Evo 4g has more potential too. iPhone is nice but its getting boring already. I would use it but ehh.
It's not an outright win for either phone. I'm reserving judgment till I get hands-on with both phones. As of now, I'm leaning towards the Evo because Android sounds more appealing to me.
As a side, what's with the talk about "zero setup"? I mean, it's a camera that comes with the phone, so what if it's front facing, what's to setup? Is it Jobs' RDF "1500 new features"?
@RDM ur either a fanboy or have no idea what ur talking about 1 Bigger screen 2 Sprint 3 Android 2.1 which imo is much better than iOS4 4 REAL Video Calls 5 4G 6 Not locked to iTunes And these are some i can think of just right at this moment...
Spot on comments.. this fight is really decided by personal preference. Both are truly incredible pieces of hardware, and both have their strengths.. and since this is Engadget and most of us are probably gadget addicted, both are winners and we all want both!! (at least me)
@GMoney the majority of top selling apps on the app store are available on the marketplace (in some cases for free) the app store is less of an advantage than youd think
Qik is not the only video chat app available for the EVO, there is Fring as well. Google, Skype, Yahoo, AIM, etc. Are all making apps for the EVO. Engadget also did not mention, the EVO can video chat not only mobile to mobile, also mobile to PC and PC to mobile.
@wakeup Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I didn't realize the size difference was that dramatic. I love the pixel density of the iPhone 4, but I don't hold the screen of my Nexus One close enough to my face to notice. In fact, I'd rather hold it a bit further away, and a larger screen allows for this. Nice...
We all know Evo 4g is better. I speak for everyone in the hood when I say this, Evo 4g is top dog and iPhone is for lil homies tryna be hip. Yall know Evo is the shizznit.
The Retina Display is NOT just marketing hype. Look at ANY of the first impressions and you'll see.
Engadget: The screen is truly outrageous -- you basically cannot see pixels on it. We're not being hyperbolic when we say it's easily the best looking mobile phone screen we've ever laid eyes on.
Ryan Block: iPhone 4 screen is something you need to see to fully understand. Unlike any display I've ever seen
Look around and more people are saying similar things. Look at the on stage demos at the keynote. The screen is revolutionary when you look at mobile devices. Thats a fact.
"3 Android 2.1 which imo is much better than iOS4"
IMO neither of these phones can break clear of the other in a race for the cash in my wallet based on hardware, video calling (which I don't do) etc etc... but the OS, this is what sets the two apart and I don't think your opinion is mainstream. For the masses I think iOS wins.
@andyg8180 Place a widget on your iPhone desktop. JB or not. You can't. It's those little things that truly make a difference in my book. Sorry but iPhone "desktops" all look the same to me; rows of icons. Boring.
The N9 has arrived. What we can say from our first experience is that we're in the presence of a fantastically designed device with a gorgeous AMOLED screen and some highly responsive performance.

PWNED.
@wakeup
AND I MEAN BY EVO.
@wakeup who pwnd who? i'd say its a close fight and comes down to personal preference on a lot of it..
@wakeup
Google Android FTW
@wakeup
well at the end of the day iPhones arent known for their high end hardware.
nonetheless. PWND!!!
can apple explain this please ?, why we need new standart for Video Calling that already here for the past 3 years ?
@wakeup why must these posts always be called ____ vs ___ : FIGHT
@wakeup now if youre talkin a jailbroke iphone 4, we have a completely different take on this challenge!
@wakeup Lets just say that both are great Devices...
@wakeup
They are both INCREDIBLE products. The more everyone picks sides, the more money both companies will continue to make. Isn't competition fun in this capitalistic democratic republic? Enjoy it while you have it ;)
EVO 4G for me, IF I lived in the states.
The Retina Display is just nothing but marketing hype, and this is the first and last time I will ever call it that. Henceforth, it is just a high-rez display which has too many wasted pixels. If you've gone past the cognitive limit, than you're wasting money on something you cannot even perceive.
@ANDZT
I agree with ANDZT. There is no PWNED here.
iPhone 4 is disappointing this year... well so was the 3GS
EVO wins
@ANDZT I agree. It comes down to personal preference; if you are a bit more geeky and want unlimited control, grab the Evo. If you want something that just works and does it in a beautiful case, get the iPhone 4.
@potretr
Id say the gaze collector here is evo.
@ANDZT
Yup. Both have virtues.
@wakeup
Oh and is it just me, or did the iPhone's bezel grow (or the home button shrank)?
The space above and underneath the button just seems bigger.
Maybe they compromised by making it thinner and making it longer, but I didn't bother checking the exact measurements.
@wakeup
The Apple Haters said the same thing about the:
Samsung Instinct
Blackberry Storm
Palm Pre
Motorola Droid
HTC Nexus One
And about ten other phones. None of these managed to kill the iPhone. Spec sheets don't sell phones.
This has got to be a joke. The EVO 4g is much better. I don't have either phone but damn lets be real here. Evo 4g has more potential too. iPhone is nice but its getting boring already. I would use it but ehh.
Do not forget these words:
"In a world that doesn't - Droid does!"
@wakeup I sure wouldn't mind that bigger screen, but I'm not sure if I'd rather have a bigger screen with lower resolution.
@wakeup
It's not an outright win for either phone. I'm reserving judgment till I get hands-on with both phones. As of now, I'm leaning towards the Evo because Android sounds more appealing to me.

@RDM ur either a fanboy or have no idea what ur talking about
1 Bigger screen
2 Sprint
3 Android 2.1 which imo is much better than iOS4
4 REAL Video Calls
5 4G
6 Not locked to iTunes
And these are some i can think of just right at this moment...
@wakeup
iPhone has the App Store. That's the deciding factor for me.
@wakeup
Bot have benefits.
At THIS point I'm leaning iPhone 4 but I'm so JEALOUS of the big screen that the Evo 4G has.
Spot on comments.. this fight is really decided by personal preference. Both are truly incredible pieces of hardware, and both have their strengths.. and since this is Engadget and most of us are probably gadget addicted, both are winners and we all want both!! (at least me)

@wakeup
I'll take 2
@wakeup
Well the Evo isnt in canada, and I assume the iPhone 4 will come to canada in a few weeks, so iphone 4 it is for me!
Unless HTC announces an international release, ill be getting the iPhone!
@andyg8180 Im with you that new camera on the front will be use quite well after jailbreak.. Dare I say video calling over 3G!!!
@wakeup
might go Evo. I like Sprint's plan
@wakeup
If they make love and the offspring would be awesome. hahaha
@wakeup Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I didn't realize the size difference was that dramatic. @liftedngifted1 yeah, until you throw AT&T into the mix. Worst. Service.EVER.
@GMoney
So, Android then ;)
We all know Evo 4g is better. I speak for everyone in the hood when I say this, Evo 4g is top dog and iPhone is for lil homies tryna be hip. Yall know Evo is the shizznit.

@ANDZT true.
@wakeup
I would prefer the Evo, because it's just made of pure win.
What do the Engadget editors think? iPhone 4 or HTC Evo?
Android wins
@max1c
Heres the main thing about your post:
"3 Android 2.1 which imo is much better than iOS4"
IMO neither of these phones can break clear of the other in a race for the cash in my wallet based on hardware, video calling (which I don't do) etc etc... but the OS, this is what sets the two apart and I don't think your opinion is mainstream. For the masses I think iOS wins.
But I live in the UK so it doesn't matter.
@andyg8180 Place a widget on your iPhone desktop. JB or not. You can't. It's those little things that truly make a difference in my book. Sorry but iPhone "desktops" all look the same to me; rows of icons. Boring.
@Oghowie
I think pixel density is starting to reach the point of limiting returns.
How bout BOTH phones are good.
@max1c What do you mean "REAL Video Calls"? Are the video calls on iPhone 4 not real?
@Mike Vick Mike Vick is a celeb username trying to be like El Steve or Jon Rubinstein or Darth Vader, and isn't anywhere near as funny or entertaining
@Apple Fan
Yup. That screen is freakin' awesome. Can't wait to try it out for real.
@Outsider
I like the way they haven't bothered to wipe the screens of the iPhone 3GS and EVO just to make the new iPhone screen look even better..
@liquidkernel You are a genius.
