We know
how the iPhone 4 sizes up against the aging 3GS -- but how does it fare against its fiercest competitors from all the major platforms? We wish we had some production
Windows Phone 7 kit to check out here, but in the meantime, take a look at the results against the gruesome foursome of the
EVO 4G,
N8,
Pre Plus, and
HD2. You might be surprised by some of the results -- and sorry, RIM, you don't get to play until you bring some
fresh, media-heavy hardware to the table. Nothing personal!

@bjoernbertelsen Screen resolution and density IS a personal issue, most people cannot see the pixels on a screen with over 250ppi without leaning in and squinting- the iPhone 4 doesn't need to display. It would be fine with WGVA, the problem is that iOS 4, unlike Android since 1.6, does not support scaling properly.
Yes I know it's Gizmodo, but they have done a comparison of the iPhone 4, Evo 4G, Droid Incredible and the Nexus One.
Thought it may interest some, http://gizmodo.com/5558263/iphone-4-vs-droid-incredible-vs-evo-4g-vs-nexus-one-clusterfrakfight
@LawA Gizmodo aren't so Apple biased now for obvious reasons involving a Redwood City bar, $5000 and the lack of an invitation to the iPhone 4 announcement.
I have always thought if something truly better came along I might move away from the iPhone, but if you use your brain (sorry fanboy) you can see that these phones are all within a short margin of difference.
The new iPhone is very nice, and I cant see anything that would make me want an EVO over it. The both have nice cameras, great screens(even though Apple's is better quality now). Both have a Great OS. The things the Evo has over it don't mean much to me. I never plan on pluging in my phone to my TV through HDMi, and and inch bigger screen is really a wash, but its good people have a choice.
The main difference for me is media. Android's biggest weakness to me is how it handles media. Its media player feels so old and outdated, even after the last few updates. I got an iPhone so I didn't have to carry a phone and a ipod, but an Andorid phone is a very poor device for using media compared to the iPhone.
Is it just me or do smart phones no longer belong to smart people?
326pixeles ------> 1pulgada
640 pixeles ------> X
X=1.96319018405 pulgadas = 4.98650306749cms
326pixeles ------> 1pulgada
960 pixeles ------> Y
Y=2.94478527607pulgadas = 7.47975460122cms
En resumen el iPHONE4 tiene una matriz de puntos de 614400 píxeles en una pantalla de (7.47cm * 4.98cm)
========
132pixeles ------> 1pulgada
768pixeles ------> X
X=5.81818181818 pulgadas = 14.7781818182cms
326pixeles ------> 1pulgada
1024 pixeles ------> Y
Y=7.75757575758 pulgadas = 19.7042424243cms
En resumen el iPHONE4 tiene una matriz de puntos de 786432 píxeles en una pantalla de (14.77cm * 19.70cm)
========
iPAD+iPHONE4=iMobile
QUIEN TE PREGUNTO ?
Android desperately needs a better market place, thats the only reason i would rather get an iPhone 4...
By Far... Hands Down.... Undisputed...
iPhone4 takes the gold. Count which device has the most tallies overall.
It clear cut & dry.
Black and White.
1's and 0's...
The HTC Evo is quite frankly a magnificent phone. I have one and am greatly impressed with its features. It does all of the things that I could never get my iPhone 3GS to do. The 3GS is simply a flop in comparison. Being the specs on the iPhone 4, I will say they are good. Will it actually live up to the hype? I don't know for sure. None of us do. Personally, I'm not a fan of Apple or its products. I think Android is superior in many ways. Here's why: First and foremost, the Android platform has open development and requires little if any approval from anyone. However, the apps must come from the marketplace to be used on the phone. You can turn this off if you want and install non-marketplace apps. But you are putting the device at risk. Still, this open-source development is a plus overall. Second, the Evo, like its cousin, the HD2, have the YouTube HQ player. This probably won't be true of the iPhone. As for the third point, Adobe Flash is available on most Android devices and 2.2 is expected to have full Flash support. Apple has already said that this will never happen on their phones. Flash is important for one main reason: Most websites and apps use it. Fourth, the iPhone is a single carrier device in the US. Most likely, it will be another few years until we see it on other carriers, if at all - considering that Apple seems to have a loving relationship with AT&T. Fifth, the iPhone has no user-replaceable battery. This is a big problem for anyone who has to have their battery replaced, as most likely, you will be waiting weeks for your phone to come back from somewhere in hell's half-acre. Sure, the Evo may not have an unbelievably high screen resolution - but what are the limits of the human eye? As far as I know, the human eye can't see beyond a certain point where resolution is concerned anyway. My point? Put it this way. The Evo is a great device on a great network with a solid footing already in the market, and it has already outsold many of the smartphones out there in leaps and bounds. Furthermore, Android is a wonderful way to go where operating systems are concerned. Sure, the iPhone has done well on AT&T. However, AT&T's call quality is unacceptable by any standards and their 3G is definitely not a force to be reckoned with. Unreliable and unstable are the two best ways to describe AT&T. As for Apple, they may be more successful and be a better rival for Android if they'd put the iPhone on another carrier instead. In short: Both have their strong and weak points. But Google thought this one through and did it right - no exclusivity deals with anyone. That's the main reason Android wins this one, hands down, and has outsold the iPhone on a national scale.
@rjbaker1078 other than HQ on youtube (which I believe the iphone also supports) none of your Android advantages focused on any end user feature - i.e. what someone does with the product. Let's see why iphone 4 will be far superior to any of these phones (especially the Evo):
1. Better screen resolution makes it the best device for reading and viewing video. The Evo has a bigger screen, but the iphone has a much higher quality one with IPS LCD and insane resolution and top notch glass quality.
2. six axis motion control with gyro on the iphone makes it the most compelling gaming console
3. better media player - music, video and books. Android is still try to catch itunes and the ipod media player.
4. better games and apps library. Most users don't care about openness they care about how good the apps are. Well...Apple has a huge advantage here and will continue to do so.
5. better camera and video software. Resolution isn't as important as the sensor and processing. Almost anyone who knows anything about digital cameras know this. I am guessing Nokia will have the best lens of the lot, but Apple the best processing and software.
6. better video chat software. All others suck and hence why no one uses it. Apple seems like they have a winner here in terms of their software.
7. Design and aesthetics. I give Apple the edge here. But it's a personal thing...
@rjbaker1078 Your entire post is just Apple bashing and it sounds like you are trying so hard not to do it, but can't help it. Apple have loving relationship with AT&T, well, most probably it is not loving, it seems like Apple is stuck due to the contract it has with AT&T and Im sure it tried to get out. Well, your post is just hard core bashing with some facts wannabes.
Think it's already been mentioned a couple of times, and let me be clear, new iphone looks quite nice (didn't like the previous design), but for me SAMSUNG GALAXY S still looks like my next buy:
- SUPER AMOLED 4" (who cares about ppi if you can't see them in the flare of the sun/bright daylight!). And, 3.5" is so yesterday...
- (also) has 720p @ 30fps recording. Look on youtube for videos. Pretty good.
- Has 'n' wifi too
- Will support video calling with 3G (not just wifi)
- Interface probably takes some getting used to (new Android jacket) but think Samsung has thought through the experience quite well.
- 9.9mm thick, so negligble with iphone (yeah, like 0.6mm is a winner)
- Lightest of the bunch at 119g
- DLNA support and streaming (which phone has that!)
- Built in wifi tethering out of the box (no rooting etc)
- Comparable battery life
- Android customisation!! (and many more options/settings generally compared to iphone os)
...........
See here http://galaxys.samsungmobile.com/specification/spec.html?ver=low
@mcmc
Haha, I don't want an interface that "takes getting getting used to". I am not going to try to force a phone on myself just because of its specs.
It's like the Incredible. It looks great on paper. Once you use it, it's really awful. I just don't understand why phones like the Incredible have such poor touch-screen response. Scrolling is wonky, zooming is imprecise, etc..
@ebgolfin HAHAHA .. STICK TO YOUR GIRLY IPHONE OS USER INTERFACE. IF YOU WANT A PROFFESIONAL, HIGH-END SMARTPHONE, YOU SHOULD EXPECT A COMPLEX INTERFACE. ITS ALMOST LIKE APPLE BUILT THIS PHONE FOR OLD PEOPLE OR KIDS. SO LAME. THE IOS USER INTERFACE IS SO PLANE. NO PERSONALIZATION OTHER THAN WALLPAPERS. ITS THE SAME THING FOR EVERYONE. AT LEAST WITH ANDROID AND SYMBIAN YOU CAN ACTUALLY ADJUST YOUR PHONE TO YOUR PERSONALITY.
I know I'll draw scorn and derision for this...but I'll take the Palm as it has the most pleasing form factor for me.
nokia n8 seems pretty good on this specs sheet.and it has best camera.
n8 for me
@lukewind
Yep. Seems like people buy the iPhones and iPads so they can prance around and say "look at me, I have an ...."
For those who want to do real work, it's Blackberry, despite what engadget says.
Where is the 4G on the iBone anyway? Don't say it is not necessary. The rest of the world is going 4G.
Who did this review? Funny how they left out that only the EVO is a 4G phone. Heck the iPhone4 runs off a really bad 3G network. My EVO rocks, my iphone has been sold.
So to sum this up the EVO is obviously bigger yes we all know that it does not feel uncomfortable or to large for that matter.. I know because I have one. It has better cameras and not too long from now will have better internet with 2.2. The EVO is better at true multitasking and has a more intuitive interaction user interface. The messaging app on the EVO is a convenience to be able to view additional mail including the g mail so to. There is nothing wrong with the app so it was irrelevant to mention anything negative about it. If you don't like it u can use Ur browser to read any mail. The battery life is that of most other smart phones . The EVO has 1 gb internal memory and 32 gb external. Both phones have a touch keyboard simply put, they will both take getting use to. IPhone came out first so it will have more apps. The iPhone has more internal memory and a little better display not to forget the less quality cameras. The EVO is 59.99 individual plan plus 10 for unlimited 4g. So that's 70. If u want hotspot feature its an extra 30 a month. But most people just want a phone, I think the hotspot feature is what it is -luxury feature/personal preference. Sprint has unlimited everything, Apple does not. Sprint has 4g Apple does not. So its $70 w/ unlimited everything vs $115 with limitations hmmm....KEEP IN MIND THAT NEW ANDROID PHONES ARE RELEASED MULTIPLE TIMES ANNUALLY AND USUALLY THEIR BETTER THAN THE PREVIOUS ONE. WHILE APPLE RELEASES 1 NEW IPHONE A YEAR. THIS MEANS THERE WILL BE A BETTER ANDROID PHONE THAN THE EVO AND IPHONE 4 WHICH MEANS APPLY ALREADY LOSES AND COMPARING IT'S SPECS TO THE EVO NOW IS STUPID. The EVO has better specs especially the cameras. It's so annoying that the overrated iPhone has to be compared to every other phone. Once mass communications are mature enough to stop supporting/reporting on the iPhone -better phones will gain the light.
I have never owned a Palm phone that I felt was worth my money or time. Everything that I have ever owned that was made by HTC was gltichtchy, and often not durable; one drop and it was toast. iPhones are the least durable piece of equipment that ever waled; I watch one hit a carpet floor from a height of three feet, and then the screen basically exploded, and the same thing happens if you put more that a finger poke worth of pressure on it. I am a Blackberry person; and they can and do tether well and can be used as a modem with your computer, or at least can with the Verizon network, which I previously hated but after switching and realizing how poor the reception was when you leave the city, I quickly switched back. I have the Storm 2; I love every nanometer of it, and would take it over any of these in a heartbeat. They can take a beating and still kick butt. I feel like I have gotten the best for my dollar out of my blackberry as compared to the other smartphones I have owned.
N8 wins a TKO by virtue of its 12 MP + xenon flash.
i just cant wait for a sub 10mm phone with a higher res and maybe tegra 2 or an omap 4 or maybe that new 1.5ghz dual core snapdragon. throw in a 4"ish screen and a powergx540 and we got the new king boys. maybe some verizon lte love too? lets hope before 2011 wouldnt that be sweet. oh and froyo too, duh. thatll take the iphone on hands down
Umm... Shouldn't my Nexus One with Android 2.2 be at the top of this list? Granted, I ONLY have a 5MP camera...
Yes, I have full Flash support as far as I can tell, and yes it works wonderfully over 802.11/n and 3g via T-Mobile.
Evo sucks,
iPhone 4, ftw.
Obviously Engadget bias toward the iPhone.
EVO is by far the better of the two.
@ShelbyTheGuy NONE OF THESE ARE THE WINNER . THE WINNER IS NOKIA'S N8
Never realized how badass the Symbian^3 was. If HTC were to breed that with the EVO, holy hell!
@jawman
*N8, not Symbian^3.
This table gives the right picture. N8 is the best and these specs are just unmatchable http://www.nokian8.mobi/n8-features/ at least at current point in time.
Could this be updated to include the Dell Streak? Also, how about a row giving the US Carrier?
What? No N900???
APPLE IS SO STUPID. THEY HAVE RELEASED 4 DIFFERENT PHONES AND STILL HAVENT REALIZED THAT THEIR CRAPPY DEVICES ARENT EVEN ABLE TO SEND A FILE VIA BLUETOOTH TO ANOTHER PHONE. EVEN MY FIVE-YEAR-OLD SONY ERICSSON FEATURE PHONE CAN DO THAT. HOW STUPID IS THAT?
OUT OF ALL THESE PHONES THE BEST IS THE N8, SINCE YOU CAN PLUG A USB DRIVE TO IT. THIS MEANS THAT YOU CAN ALSO PLUG ANOTHER PHONE TO IT THROUGH A USB CABLE. HOW COOL IS THAT?
@ShelbyTheGuy NONE OF THESE ARE THE WINNER . THE WINNER IS NOKIA'S N8
THE N8 IS THE ONE THAT IS HIGHLIGHTED THE MOST.
im sorry guys but WHERE THE HELL IS THE HTC DESIRE!!!!
I LOVE MY EVO!!!!!!!!
Hello everyone,
I really like reading everyone's posts and bringing each perspective to life.
I recently switched from iPhone 3Gs to HTC Evo, the very day EVO came out.
Let me first say, I absolutely love iPhone and have had both the iPhone 3g & 3gs. I am also a big Macintosh & Linux fan at home and I work with Linux professionally at work.
Today I was able to look at the new IPhone 4 and it is a VERY SEXY phone. So many say, "Why move away from the iPhone, when it has everything you can possibly need?".
The answer simply is the network. I have been an Cingular / AT&T user for years and have leveraged many 3G phones introduced by HTC that were Windows powered.
AT&T had a great voice and packet network UNTIL iPhone came to town. Now AT&T's network here in St. Louis and other nearby areas has become un-reliable (at best). The packet network was great, but now latency and consistent packet speed has taken a "turn for the worse".
I want reliability in a phone service.
Now to the EVO and compared with my experience with IPhone 3GS and very little experience with the new 4th generation IPhone device.
The iPhone beats the EVO in regards to software available on the iTunes store vs the Android Market. There is NO COMPARISON in regards to "good" software on the Android Market compared to iPhone software.
In regards to performance, I believe the EVO is the winner.
And in regards to dropped calls and network experience, Sprint is the winner in St. Louis area.
Once better software is introduced to the Android Market, I believe that the HTC Evo will be better than iPhone.
I believe that Apple killed AT&T.

BTW the EVO 4G can also be hacked to get 802.11n
just sayin...
No replaceable SD memory card, no replaceable battery, pathetic 3.5 inch screen (resolution is irrelevant when the the screen is so small) and the wrong aspect ratio all equals fail.
Wifi N can also be enabled by hack in EVO 4G too.
I have access to both the iphone4 and HTC EVO. As much as i like my EVO, battery issues kill my rating...nevermind how the "update" jammed up or hurt SOME phones. However coming from a BBCurve its awesome. Not sure how accurate this is, with the Fring update for iphone-we just tested tonight...Great over Wifi-decent over 3g-Iphone had better resolution...mostly/simply due to Evo having to use front facing camera. If there were an option to sue rear camera-it would be awesome...even though Evo has the kickstand, and orientation option. :)
Sound quality on both phones could be better. Um Also-HDMI claimed on EVO, check the net- not every TV, or (micro)cable can use it- My Evo froze immediately-using all televisions in the home. I cannot deny any other phone of its just due...I am impressed with both aforementioned phones... so what can you spend versus what you need? At&t is the work phone-no limit on any plan limit applies... Sprint is personal/minimal work phone small monthly discount. Every phones has pros and cons. Probably be best to try it out manually before deciding.bring your research with you.--- Best feature on my Evo across the board-All agreed the Sprint Navigation(telenav) included in the Everything plan-looks friggin amazing- but keep a charger handy LOL Multitasking mean multicharges. :)
1st nokia N8( never heard of it)
2nd iphone 4( gettin one next week, replace my 3g)
3rd. evo ( looks great but didnt quite match the competition)
rest is a tie between the palm pre and HTC HD2.
(i prefer the htc, idk whay i like the interface of the htc's, always have)
I love webos but i hate palms hardware:(
You listening HTC?
Which of these provide the best Internet experience? If you use any of the devices above or other touch phone, respond a survey on touch phone Internet experience:

The results will be published in some academic arena.
Thanks
i was watching a show that said iphone 4 is 4g compatible jus that it only comes on at&t so it dosent run if it were possible to run on diffeerent company than 4g would work this may be seen in the possibly upcoming iphone in january
i mat be wrong and have miss heard this
