Video Games Live special brings orchestral game music to PBS
Are video games art? That question may still be a cause of debate for some, but there is little question that there is artistry in video games -- like the music, which often doesn't receive the attention it deserves. Game music composers Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall have been doing their best to change that for years now with their symphonic Video Games Live show, however, and it looks like they'll soon have what could be their largest audience yet. The group recently announced that PBS will be debuting a 90-minute Video Games Live special on July 31st, which will continue to air throughout August, and be available on DVD, Blu-ray and CD. Check with your local PBS affiliate for the exact time and air dates in your area, and head on past the break for a taste of what's in store.

omg at 1:19 that chello/guitar rock off was so badass
YES!! Better than spending $50 bucks a ticket.
@Benjulious, in person it is worth every penny. I would definitely go again. The laser light show is pretty epic also.
I love PBS can't wait to watch.
no way
I saw these guys when they were in Kalamazoo. It was a tiny stage and it's not well enough known to justify another visit, but still, absolutly amazing experience. The God of War montage gives you chills. I highly recommend the Album.
I also don't have PBS in HD. Might have to torrent this one (yes, it is bad, but it's also on PBS, which I donate too).
Makes me want to listen to Apocalyptica's Legend of Zelda medley while I wait for this to air.
Final fantasy plus halo music equal win
@DefPoet
dont forget MGS, my three favourite games for their soundtracks (H3,MGS2&WindWaker specifically).
Something tells me I'm going to be watching this with the surround sound on! Awesome!
i went to VGL in dublin a few months ago with my college soc great time. I am already looking forward to them coming back
1:45ish... Think how badass a fully-orchestrated Zelda game would be.. *drools*

VERY COOL. I have been hoping for allot of my like that someone would do exactly that with the Castle Vania theme. it's such a legend for video game music...
I saw them in LA same weekend of the first E4All show in 2007, and it was an awesome concert. We got lucky buying 4 tickets from the box office, for about 100 bucks if I remember correctly, which turned out to be 2 rows from the stage. Great night, that and the Dear Friends concert music from Final Fantasy are two of my favorite concerts I've been to.
Can I get some original Total Annihilation please!?!?
@Jope31 Total Annihilation had some of the best music, but I don't know if it's well known enough for something like this. Shame.
@Jope31 i too wish it would get more recognition. some of jeremy soule's finest work, in my opinion.
Marty O'Donnell FTW
I'm going to tune in to that for sure :D Bit different than PBS's normal broadcasts.
That was an awesome StarCraft II scene too, I hadn't know they had anything new out. Sauce?
Halo 2 sound track could definitely give me some chills. And that's from playing it off a computer, never mind in person from that kind of music ensemble.
