Acclaim Android slider revealed by Samsung's own site
We know you've been kept awake at night by this question: just what does the Samsung Acclaim look like? Well, thanks to one of our awesome readers, we now the first official pic of the handset. This was discovered on Samsung's site without too much effort, which might indicate just how excited the Korean manufacturer is about the whole thing. Clearly running Android as its OS, this slider offers a full QWERTY keypad with a dedicated number row and quite the curious coloration. Assuming Sammy didn't run out of dark navy paint halfway through, the cross pattern highlighted on the left may be indicative of some gaming inclinations to the R880. Earlier rumors peg the Acclaim's US Cellular-exclusive release at some time in July and also indicate a 3.2-inch screen gracing its visage. Can't wait.

...maybe it's just me, but I feel it's colored that way for gaming reasons.
@NaeemTHM
It's not just you. It's written in the article too.
@jgpuff
I opened up this article and my EVO laughed at it in haptic feedback
@NaeemTHM
We now the whole thing?
@NaeemTHM
All I have to say is:
FINALLY A KEYBOARD!
@NaeemTHM Is that running 1.6? If so....*vomit*
Interesting directional pad concept - but I think it may have been better executed had the separate keys not been simply colored different, but actually linked as a single traditional cross. After all, gaming with a D-pad is usually done by rocking one's thumb-heel back and forth, not by lifting and tapping.
Still a very apparent function and good job with the obvious color intent.
@whySoSerious
Whatever you do, it is probably in the wrong field.
You need to be designing these things.
I agree completely.
Looks like all the other side slider phones on the market, boring.
Keep sending in the reinforcements.Droid.
Looks ugly and hopefully the picture is not accurate as it looks to be running Android 1.5 or 1.6
@plbelanger
It wouldn't surprise me if it did. As history has shown, Samsung has a terrible attitude towards keeping their handsets up to date, or even working on new updates, at all.
@Chroma
I'ts 2.1 US Cellular is sticking with a minimum of 2.1 on all its android handsets going forward
So once again, we see a lower-end phone (this time with Android) with what looks like a decent keyboard, but no high-end Android phones with good keyboards.
WTF?
Really that tough to merge a keyboard like this with the rest of the hardware of an Evo??
@Hazdaz
Give HTC 2 months
@Hazdaz
I'm with you buddy. I keep hoping that by October when my contract ends that I can get an Android that's hardy like an EVO and has a damn physical keyboard. Don't make me go to the MyTouch3GSlide... please?
@barbtx
I hate to push my own link but I shared my thoughts on what I believe t-mo is really up to :

@Hazdaz People can cross their fingers on the Galaxy S pro coming to at least 1 U.S. carrier and that being part of the 1+ month delay. The rumors are that if they do land on multiple carriers that there is going to be more than AT&T style gimping to make there a differentiation between the hardware/software.
It'll launch on July 2 with Android 2.1, it also has a 3MP camera and US Cellular will be running a BOGO promotion at launch. It'll require a $30 monthly data plan.
Is this kinda April Fools joke, or is it supposed to be a retro-designed handset? It looks like one of those old HTC/XDA phones, which was designed to run WinMo6.
That sums-up a lot of these manufacturers. They are wasting lots of money on developing devices which they think people need, rather than designing things which people want.
Isnt this the rumored phone that was suppose to replace the samsung momemt? As in the samsung moment 2? Seems like they have the same keyboard layout.
How cute...
They stuck the android OS on a Samsung Seek.
Where is the Galaxy S Pro?! :( I hope it exists.
After the smartphone elite shootout with Iphone 4, Evo and N8, i cant get excited over this stuff anymore...
No thank you. No Samsung devices, they do not support updates.
No Sense or Motoblur devices they grudgingly provide late updates. Android is mature enough now that we no longer require skins.
OT but anyone in here having network issues w/ the g1?
Is it just me or does this thing seem to have the stock android.. 1.6 probably? =|
lol, us cellulars phones are always crappy, at least they have free incoming calls?
Is this the same phone said to b coming metro pcs?
Tht a cute phone, dare I say otherwise, engadget is 99% android fans. Better get me to apple insider where the articles are actually interesting
yes yes more androsliders
