AT&T having data trouble in parts of Florida
We've been tipped off today that data services are down "in the Southeast," and AT&T is telling us now that the problems are restricted to Jacksonville, Gainesville, and the Florida panhandle -- and as of right now, there's no confirmed ETA for when the situation will be resolved. Here's the official statement we have from the company:Is anyone out there having trouble?"Some AT&T 3G wireless customers in the panhandle, Jacksonville and Gainesville are unable to use data on their devices, but still have voice capabilities. Our techs are working to fix the problem and get to the root cause."
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Update: Our own Ben Drawbaugh says that he's been having intermittent trouble in Tampa since he first tried around 9AM ET, which is decidedly outside the "panhandle, Jacksonville and Gainesville" area that AT&T is quoting. Anyone else outside those areas having issues?

Root cause - sabotage due to serious lack of awesome android devices.
Network and data troubles on AT&T? Did you guys submit a story 3 years late?
@jroff That and the stupid Data limit cap. In all seriousness, I don't see any reason to be in at&t now other than wanting the iPhone or the roll over minutes. I've been an at&t customer since 2002 and still am today with my unlocked Milestone. I hate what at&t is doing, it seems everything went downhill as soon as they got the iPhone. I remember a time when at&t(back when they were Cingular) was like the be all end all carrier. They had good coverage, the prices weren't THAT bad compared today, and a lot of the services they provided were good. More Bars in More Places actually meant something. But now, they're riding Apple's dick so far up their ass, they can't do shit but obey their commands. And usually, its the carrier who does all the controlling. And once they lose their exclusivity(IF they do) there will be no rational reason to be with at&t considering they do not have the best prices or fastest 3G (soon)(T-Mobile), they do not have the best coverage or line of smartphones(Verizon) and I couldn't think of anything for Sprint besides 4G. WAKE UP AT&T!!!
@SomePerson
Remember when verizon was the cocky network provider?
Dude! That comment rocked! I laughed hard when you talked about Apple contolling AT&T
@victor Epic Win. Emphasis on Epic.
I lol'd.
Yes your not going to send pics of the oil spill cuz bp says so right AT&T yep
Saint Petersburg, FL data is down around here also! Data keeps going in and out really frustrating!
@S lL A Y A
My area's 3G coverage was off for a day or two.
Came back on and I have more 3G bars than before, but less in doors
That probably means they upgraded my city's tower to HSPA+ (3.5G)
3.5 G doesn't penetrate as much because of the higher frequency
+1 - we have several users with iPhones that are unable to make a data connection. Inbound voice is also down for some. Outbound is OK.
My iPhone and my wife's Palm Pixi Plus have both had issues for a few days now. Unable to connect to internet, unable to send texts or pic texts....Edge works on occasion but even that was flaky. AT&T said it was upgrading 3G towers in our area (far west suburbs of Chicago) but that was like 4 days ago and we're still having issues!
im having data problems LOL jk... i have verizon.
--haha sorry had to do it. i feel bad for anyone who has problems like that though, its happened to me too
@spdivr1122 :-p
Well I know AT&T gets alot of crap for having a bad network in other cities like NY but here in the Chi-town burbs it's been nothing but dependable...now the past few days have been another story. LOL
Tampa Checking in, Data down
AT&T is also experiencing their network going off and on this morning around the Fort Polk, LA 71459 area. Not just data, but the whole network, including voice and text has been off and on.
Panama City, FL Is out also. I have a friend there with no Data on his iphone.
This is not news. Its just a reminder.
Thank you, Engadget.
I live in Gainesville. No internet right now. I have a friend that lives in Orlando, again, outside the quoted area...and she doesn't have data either. Party foul at&t!
I have a Tilt2 and my wife has an iPhone 3gs, both of us are having data issues since this morning, we are in the Tampa bay area. Voice works but data is hit and miss:(
Problems in Tampa as well. Glad its just a work phone. My personal Sprint EVO is rockin and rolling.
Probably some oil got into at&t's network and lubricated it so well it ran too fast and melted down LOL
Yea cause they suck
No, I can say I do not have this problem or the Sprint problem.... but then again I am using the incredible on Verizon... so I'm glad I'm not an ihag and glad I don't have the world's first 4g phone... :)
i have users in the Tampa area that have no data coverage.
Me and my friends were having the same issues in Tampa FL, seems to be working now since I am able to write this using my iPhone app.
As I tipped Engadget to this, I wa told by someone IN AT&T that it was FL, GA, SC, AL, and MS. Someone just said LA on here too, so it would appear the the old BellSouth area is having issues.
Working in Jacksonville now.
@spicermatt
I think it has been up and down in The Bold New City of the South all day. So until some more come out and say, I won't proclaim that to my users.
Hah, AT&T's data network fails in Gainesville (& surrounding areas) the week I switch to Sprint. I'm loving the EVO & Sprint.
Wow, can AT&T do anything right lately, it's going down the tubes fast, maybe they need to stop paying their CEO's lawyers and put more money into their infrastructure.
Ya...i noticed a problem in Los Angeles. Oh wait! Thats every damn day on AT&T. EVO, im coming to you soon baby.
I always see people complaining about AT&T but everyone I know that has it including myself has never had any problems at all and we are all pretty happy with the service. Calls never drop and we always have service wherever we go. Maybe we are lucky in Miami. 17 years now with the same company and no problems. T-mo and Sprint gave me nothing but problems when I tried their service.
This plus raised e.t fees,,, not a good look AT&T
In Altamonte Springs and Apopka, no voice or texting at all but 3G data is working fine
