US PlayStation 3 gets four 3D titles starting tomorrow
Perhaps the PlayStation Network needed to be down in order to add extra dimensions -- whatever the case, Sony just announced that tomorrow will usher in the first quartet of PS3 titles to support stereoscopic 3D. Not too shocking, as it happens to be the same day Japanese gamers get the same deal. Entrees include WipEout HD, Super Stardust HD, Pain, and a demo of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Looking to the future, PlayStation Move title The Fight: Lights Out will support 3D at launch. Of course you'll need a 3DTV to join the fun, but hey, looks like Sony's got you covered there, too.

That was quick
@MoonWalkerCTE
I don't care what anyone says, wipeout HD would be SWEET in 3D.
@MoonWalkerCTE Thats definitely not what you want her to say.
@uck Shouldnt it read Wipeout 3D then instead of HD ?? just sayin!
Need racing games, like GT5, to be in 3D. Having a sense of speed is critical for these quasi-simulation racing games.
@MoonWalkerCTE
Too bad downloading them will take at least an hour.
@Firesuite WipeOut H3D? it's still HD (albeit 720p vs 1080p)
@uck
I think Motor Storm in 3D will cause seizures for sure.
@Plazmic Flame
Seizures of Awesomeness!
It would be heaps of fun.
@Plazmic Flame
yup! i agree!
Finally.......
At least they are in 720p but playsation move with 3d that's the deam :)
But will it work cause 3d uses so much more processing power?
@theonlysmr 3D is pretty intensive, but they're making it work. As for MOVE, it's hardly anything more than a standard controller. The PSEye is only one small part of MOVE. The sensors are already in a SIXAXIS/DS3, so it shouldn't be too bad, if at all.
@PolarBearTC
Ok good to know :) I know 3d is like that I just want move in HD. That would be nice... but ya I love my ps3 its awesome but I wish I worked with the microsoft media thing like the 360 but ya lookin forward to the big hole in my wallet after getting the 3d tv :)
3D seems like such a gimmick, i doubt it will ever catch on, other then in theaters.
@aaronbustillos
That's the problem, people catch on gimmicks
@commenter7 by definition "GIMMICKS" , "do not catch on"
@aaronbustillos Seeing as how it doesn't really add any costs to TV (it currently adds price) it will catch on, the utilization will go up as 2 things occur, 1 the tech improves. 2 people actually have good experiences on 3D, since you've resigned this to theaters only I'll inform you that well done game will make gaming better than any 3D experience you will get in a theater as of this moment in time and into the foreseeable future.
Have their Tvs even come out yet haha? Finally though some 3d action other than just the world cup
So if I already own some of those titles in my PS3 (Wipeout & Stardust), do I get an update for them? Or can I delete them and redownload them at no cost?
@Ecran Free updates (except for PAIN, I guess)
@Ecran I'm still trying to decode what exactly they mean with "Download these free stereoscopic games and demos...". It makes it sound like they're all free. I assume they just mean demos and updates?
@TVGenius Scratch that. It does say you only get them all free if you buy a Bravia.
Seems like all 3D games should have an option to use old fashioned analglyph (red/blue) images. It's not a good option, but would allow everyone to see 3D in some fashion.
@Ksult1 I was going to post the same thing. I don't have one of those fancy 3D tvs, just a regular "mere mortal" HDTV, and I have some red/blue glasses. It'd be simple to add the filter in the PS3 software, and it would open up 3d (although maybe not as pretty or futuristic as 3d tvs) to the majority who aren't early adopters of the 3d technology.
Is there any way to play these games in 3D on a 120Hz computer monitor? Or is a 3D TV the only option?
@Vaughanabe13
I would imagine your display would have to have a signal processor that understood 3D and could be manually put into the mode that processed incoming frames as stereoscopic 3D, so unless your display has that I kind of doubt it. But I'm just speculating.
@Vaughanabe13 It seems the Sony 3DTVs run at 240Hz after a quick look at the SonyStyle site.
And they still require glasses. I'm not wearing glasses for gimmicky 3D. Seriously. I've been a WipEout player since it first hit the PS way back in like 97 (yes, I even had the N64 version). Love HD and Fury but will not be putting on overpriced 50s era glasses to play.
Oh my damn, playing those in 3D would be awesome.
Will that work with any non sony 3d tv like samsung?
@techlord
Yes. If your TV is 3D-Ready, it will work.
@Ecran Thanks man.
I can't take the jump on this yet. I'm doin' fine with my HDTV. Maybe next year
Meh. Not interested in 3D, let alone 3D gaming.
@Shidell
I think gaming is one of 3D's most promising areas, actually. I don't care if a sitcom or something is in 3D, but #D racing and adventure games sound really awesome.
People calling it a gimmick are doing my bloody head in.
@Kromatik
It will be a gimmick until glasses free technology is the standard. And to be fair I was watching avatar in 3-D and about an hour into it I stopped noticing and the effect wore off.
So wait...I already have Star Dust HD. Will i get the 3D feature? Or will i have to buy it again? 'Cause i'm not about to pay another $10 for it.
@Nazariy007 Free Update
Now when will Sony upgrade the PS3 to play 3D movies!?!?
@wryker When 3D BDs are available for purchase? None are out AFAIK
@PolarBearTC Monsters vs Aliens is out
I can't wait until bestbuy sets up a ps3 on a 3d tv with this
Not that I would ever shop there of course
@Hydra BOOM in 3D
I saw a demo of Stardust, Wipeout, Little Big Planet and one other game on a PS3 in Vegas - it was just video clips of the game play in 3D
They looked sweet (especially LBP) but playing with those glasses.....I don't think I could do that for too long
if COD Black Ops zombies is 3D i will really consider upgrading my TV
although my wife will probably divorce me if she saw me playing video games wearing a wireless headset and 3D glasses all at once
I already OWN MS-Pacific Rift. Will there be a FREE update (OTA) of that game to make it 3D?
If only I could play PS2 games in 3 glorious dimensions... or at all...
3D is a gimmik. I'll never buy anything 3D for my home.
@Realkuhl Most people who say this haven't actually played a 3D game. If that's the case, maybe you should try gaming in 3D before pronouncing it a gimmick.
all of 20 people will have use for these downloads, if that!
