@potretr I don't care how cool or bad the Iphone 4 is the At&t new billing is the no Iphone clause for me. 2 hours of Netflix streaming would already kill the first plan and about 8 hours in the month would already kill the last plan
Is not only about the phones, is about the carriers. There are people locked to a particular carrier due to different circumstances, so its hard to tell. If both phone would be in the same carrier then it's a different story.
@TheOne You obviously don't have AT&T otherwise you would already have unlimited data. Stop trolling verizon already said it was going to start tiered data. By the way all carriers already have 5 gb caps with the exception of sprint on their 4g network. Check the fine print in your contract.
@BrookLynnsFinest I am happy with my Nexus One atm, the iPhone 4 is pretty pimp though so is the EVO. If Apple would give the iPhone widgets, better notifications and put it on Verizon I would give some thought about switching to an iPhone. Either way they both seem like good phones.
Explain what exactly Apple Hater? Why the iPhone 4 is winning?
Umm I don't know because more people voted for it? More people think its the better phone?
Its got a higher resolution. Its got a better processor I believe. Its faster. Its UI is a million times better than the android UI will ever be. Its got video conferencing.
The only thing the evo 4g has is 1) Larger Screen 2) 4G network (which everyone can admit is small)
The iPhone has better apps, better and more games.
I could go on and on but thats enough I think to prove why I think its the best.
Yeah sure...and the next iPhone will be powered by unicorn tail feathers....
Bottom line is that Apple will never please people like you. You'll always find some pathetic reason to not buy the iPhone. And thats absolutely fine.
I don't care if you like the iPhone. I really don't. I'm just tired of people attacking ME and others for daring to enjoy a product that Apple makes.
Stop saying the iPhone isn't a great phone when it clearly is. Stop pretending like Jobs gives a shit what YOU think about his OS and his policies regarding what is allowed and what isn't. Stop pretending like Jobs gives a crap about all the lackluster android phones that have been released over the last year and that they actually provided "competition".
The numbers don't lie...Apple has had successful quarter after quarter and the iPhone just keeps selling.
Meanwhile all android phones to date have yet to beat the iPhone.
I like how Josh came forward and gave us the low down, which is why I keep coming back to Engadget, openness and honesty. Other sites would just start waving the ban hammer on anyone who asked. I don't get why people got so riled up anyways....the iPhone 4 started to break away from the EVO in the poll. You'd be much better off going to that other poll some guy wouldn't stop spamming in every article that had the EVO winning.
Anyways, I'm glad comments can go back to normal and stop stealing the thunder from my witty remarks.
It obviously must be doing SOMETHING right since over 55 million of the damn things have SOLD across the planet.
Not to mention despite Apple Haters like yourself constantly complaining about it I see you have NOTHING better to offer. Sense is just a hot mess of widgets with a huge clock widget in the center. Lipstick on a pig pretty much. What it is...a few swipes and you're looking right at stock android?
Same thing with Motoblur.
At least the iPhone is consistent. And it definitely has a great UI which continues to provide a wonderful user experience.
Thanks for the update Josh. I think I can understand where you're coming from on wanting to have both phones in hand...but it's a little different with Apple. You have three versions of very similar devices. I don't think Apple has revamped the feel and function of their phone, but they HAVE added some pretty nice bells and whistles. So I can see how you'd want to have both phones to look at. Still, when has that ever stopped you guys before?
I honestly thought you pulled b/c of the comments going haywire at the end--but who knows what's in the mind of an Editor in Chief.
So, I respect your authority to run your website however you deem necessary--I'm just glad I got my article back. Well done, Paul Miller!!
Better processor? Both the A4 and Snapdragon run at 1ghz so... how is it better? Faster? Tell me... where did you get your iPhone 4 so early that you could run all the benchmarks to make that claim? I'm dying to know... UI a million times better? Last I checked people were entitled to their own opinion... you personally like the iPhone's UI more than Android, that's all good in the hood... but that by no means makes it a universal fact. If God himself said the iPhone's UI is better than Android's, then yeah, it's a fact. anyone else? No. Video Conferencing. Evo had that last I checked. Better Apps? Opinion. More Apps? Sure.
Sooooo all I see here that the iPhone 4 has over the Evo is a higher res screen and more apps. That still doesn't make it THE better phone. Personally I'd take 4G and that huge screen over those two any day. of course... that's just MY opinion. Good day to you, sir
@BrookLynnsFinest Dont like Sense then turn it off Download a different UI from maket OR arrange icons of screen like iphone Change background you cant do that on iphone 3g
Can you try and have some sense of proportion here? You're spending huge amounts of time on the attack and just being downright rude to people.
And for what? So you can feel validated in your choices? So you can feel like you're part of a gigantic corporation? So you can feel superior? And all this because of a phone?
These are the kinds of things you choose to get angry over? Awesome.
go head FANdroids and give me a negative rating. but lets be real most Android fans are kids under 25 that dont even pay their own bill. Dont have a clue about anything but want to say Android is the best becuz you can put your own Wallpaper on your phone GTFOH you guys kill me. lol
And really, this poll should just ask which you would get if you were buying now, and forget the other choices. Otherwise, include iPhone 4, EVO, Incredible, and... I don't know, something good on T-mobile and let people pick, cause let's face it, carriers matter in the U.S.
And I don't care because it was EXCELLENT to begin with
@ skyblaze
I NEVER said that the Evo 4G doesn't have video conferencing. I know it does. Engadget has done multiple articles on that Quik program.
I stand by my other arguments however. And clearly more people agree with me than with you.
So I'm right. I'm satisfied knowing that. Apple Haters like you can cry all they want at Engadget but at the end of the day Engadget is not owned by you. If you don't like it then go someplace else.
@potretr I own an iPhone and trust me this poll is irrelevant. We iPhone users look at you Android users as 3rd class Titanic passengers. We shall wave from our lifeboats.
@BrookLynnsFinest While I agree the iPhone is (will be) a better phone, there are parts of your post that are just untrue so it ruins your credibility.
1. The iPhone UI (the main desktop UI) is getting dated/tired. I can't wait to see what the new guy from Palm brings to the table but as it stands now the desktop UI of the iPhone is no where near Androids. Now the SDK and uniformity of App design and aesthetics of the third party applications on the other hand, the iPhone wins that hands down. Open is great but when there are no standards quality suffers.
2. The EVO also has video chat and the iPhone isn't the only one that does this. To be fair however I wouldn't call the EVO video 'calling' it's more like video chat. There is a buddy list, and people have to sign up for a QIK account to use it. So this whole notion of with the EVO you can chat to anyone is kind of misleading... if I have another android phone and don't have or want to sign up for a QIK account then we won't be able to chat. Also if I'm on a call with a mate of mine and we BOTH have EVO's I would have to HANG UP my call with him, we would then have to log into QIK and THEN I have to reconnect with him to video chat. Apples solution is still as application specific (for now but bare in mind they made it an open standard) so you have to have two iPhone 4's just as you have to have two people with QIK accounts. NOTE however that I believe Apples approach is better to this as I can call my best mate, then if I feel like video 'calling' I have the option to connect right there.
3. The applications - Since I have both phones (and have had 3 other android phones) I can say hands down, on the applications and especially on the games front the iPhone does definitely win. Sure the Android store is getting more stuff everyday but so is the app store. Also I'll concede that a lot of the same type of applications and games on the iPhone are also on the Android market finally now but the quality isn't NEARLY the same. Even games made by the same company on both platforms look way better on the iPhone. I'm a sucker for tower defense games and the App store has some graphically beautiful tower defense games, the ones I've purchased on the Android Market look like 8 bit nintendo games. :-(
Anyhow I think the best phone is the one that you like using the most. Has nothing to do with specs, or UI, or any of that other Jazz, I think it has purely to do with what you enjoy using. Some prefer BMW's some prefer Mercedes; I happen to think that Benzes are crap and BMW FTW... but does that take away the legitimacy of how someone else feels about their car choice? No... they are the ones driving it so whatever makes them happy is best FOR THEM. I think we need to get away from the notion of BEST PHONE and stick to what's really measurable which is what's the BEST PHONE FOR YOU personally.
I like how customizable the Android phones are as far as interface, but there is a big lack of thoroughness ingrained in the OS that I won't even bother going into really but a quick example would be that the email client isn't fully HTML compliant so emails with a lot of HTML in it don't render properly and the layout/format is garbage. I get a lot of HTML imbedded emails from clients at my job so this is a no go for me. Also an annoyance on that front is that on large emails depending on the formatting, I have to scroll side to side as well as up and down.. On my iPhone it formats all emails proportionally for me. ANYHOW my android phone is fun to play with but when I need to get something done I use my iPhone. But again that's just me and I'm OK if someone else is different. Choice isn't about just choosing Android, freedom of choice means I can choose an iPhone and be ok with it. That's my long winded 2 cents for whatever it's worth.
I can only speak to my own personal opinion, but I think the reason we see so many iPhone haters is the hypocrisy. Had Microsoft shown the same closed system(s), people (think non-windows users) would be in an uproar. Microsoft has thrown under the bus for many of the same things that Apple is doing. People want openness and the ability to do what they want with their equipment. Now I have both and original iphone and 3GS, and enjoy them both, but have been frustrated that many of the features that I took for granted on my old blackberry and winmo phone have been slow to come or non-existent. Plus apple fanboys have an ere of arrogance that just needs to go away. majority of you are upper crust and need to realize that your overpriced products are not all that (not directed at you brooklyn)

Android is good, but this style of Journalism is better.
Taking in all the facts, then discerning, then posting. Nice work Josh.
@potretr
By the way: Good luck carrying a handbag.
@potretr I don't care how cool or bad the Iphone 4 is the At&t new billing is the no Iphone clause for me. 2 hours of Netflix streaming would already kill the first plan and about 8 hours in the month would already kill the last plan
I rather have the diversity, instead of people all voting for iPhone or only the EVO. Diversity's good. Democracy's good. EVO FTW.
@potretr
GO GO Steve Jobs!

@TheOne I meant to say about 13 hours a month hit the button to quick
@Fragmented cant be as bad as u troll.
@Lexis I like how people get iPads with 3G to take around with them, but an Evo, that fits in a pocket, starts pocketbook jokes from iPhone lovers.
Your screen didn't get any bigger so you have to hate bigger screens, we get it.
@potretr
Yay! I'm just happy the poll is back. But go Android!
@potretr
you can still look at the original post here:

but keep in mind that Engadget don't deem it as complete!
It's quite mind-bloggling to see that the iPhone is now winning in this new poll when I've heard that the Evo was kicking asses in the old one...
@abbyasov
Yeah. Go go away!
@potretr
The iPhone IS WINNING...
Why can't you android fanboys ACCEPT THAT.
It is the BETTER phone.
@Fragmented
Never seen someone troll as much as you do, seriously, go away, no one wants to pay your crappy troll toll, go die quietly under the bridge.

@potretr
As much as I would like to have EVO 4G, we don't have it (yet?) here in Taiwan. So my best option would be the iPhone, for now.
You US residents get all the good stuff :)
@BrookLynnsFinest
explain. how exactly?
@TickLe MY eLMo
You gotta pay the troll toll to get into this boy's soul...

Pages of icons? Yah i can do that on my Evo 7 pages of 24 icons ! how revolutionary
AT&T doesn't have a 5GB cap, I've used 18GB for this billing cycle

Better battery life too and possibly a better camera. Along with the App Market that Apple has.
