Malata's SMB-A1011 is the 10-inch Android tablet we really want to happen (video)
We're seeing so, so many Android tablets dropping every day, so few of which seem to deliver on their promises, that we're getting a bit jaded about the things. But, every now and again we see another one that makes our ears perk up again and make it all feel just like the first time. Such is the Malata SMB-A1011, a 10-inch, 1024 x 600 capacitive tablet running a 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor and paired with Tegra 2 graphics. Though we saw a very similar model running Windows 7 at Computex, this one has up to 2GB of system memory and up to 32GB of storage, with microSD expansion and 1080p output over HDMI, along with WiFi b/g and Bluetooth wireless. It's all slathered with Android 2.1, making this a slab we'd certainly make room for in our respective man and woman purses. At this point we know nothing about pricing or availability, but we do know enough to not get our hopes up too high.

Love it expect the MicroSD storage.
Yeah 32GB would be fine if it wouldn't cost $200. Its just too expensive.
Why not SD? I can get a 32GB SD card for $60.
I understand the size of the card is a big issue with smartphones but with tablets I would expect there to be a little more space for storage.
@notelteirs I just went on amazon and found a 16GB for 30 dollars and a 32GB for under $70.
@WilliamNighthawk You found microSD 32GB for less than $70 ?
yeah right...
@Flix C He found it on Amazon, the land of dirt-cheap fake cards from China. Will it have 32 GB? Will it show 32 GB but only have 2 GB usable before it corrupts all your data? That's the kind of suspenseful and exciting experience you get buying memory cards from third-party vendors on Amazon!
Look im no developer or pro in hardcore technology, i say what i see, (notta fan boy(much) but it looked to lag on video but who knows it might be more responsive than an ipad
@airtyper He seemed to have to repeatedly press sometimes to get a reaction.
Sorry for commenting.
My days that keyboard's seeeexy!
That was quite an odd accent... it almost seemed like he was trying to fake a french accent.
Amazing specification Tegra 2 plus 2GB Ram
but when available and pricing???
i love the design, pretty unique stuff here *cough*
The biggest difference between this and adam notion ink is that adam is redesign the android UI for tablets. hopefully that'll mean the resolution would be resize for the larger screen
What? This is the second "hack" for Android I've seen in two days. All the fandroids preach how open it is compared to the iPhone, and you still have to hack it? hmmm.
@robogobo sorry wrong thread, nice tablet, moving along.....
Hello Engadget.
Looks like your standards are quite low for tablets !
According to video, this one gets barely 15fps when scrolling web pages : not smooth at all !
As we spend so much time scrolling in the browser, a smooth (yes, like the iPad) requires full 60fps in this operation.
Concerning the hardware, any TFT screen without "total" viewing angles won't be good for tablets, because we will see it often at non-perfect angles, like when it lays on a table.
Still not impressed by this tablet, even if I really want an Android one.
I hope Samsung will do better than that! (with S-AMOLED ?)
@curio
I think the frame rate looks poor due to the quality of the video that is being taken and displayed via youtube. The movement of the guy and his hand etc is also a bit jerky at times, so perhaps he too only exists at 15fps.
I got one sitting here on my desk, right next to the Courier. *g*
Why would you want this when there's the iPad?
@THEGODOFAPPLE
You know many of us are waiting for a good tablet with more/better hardware features. Ipad is not everybody's cup of tea you know...
there was nothing new to this. He surfed the net. Period. I didn't see anything else about that review that was newsworthy.
@pspitts True. Thats because its just another vaporware, just like the other dozens of tablets...
Ill stick with whats available. I hope they make one dam it, and soon. Android will be really amazing platform, if these companies get off their behinds and release one already...
Google, it seems, has gone out of its way to annoy Apple. Whatever Apple does, it must also do. You call it competition... fair enough. It applies both ways. Banning AdMob is probably a retaliation in addition to sound business decision for Apple. I say good for them. Google can go crying to Mommy just like Adobe.... boo hoo.
@JojoMojo
I don't think that Google have created any tablets as yet (or plan to). They just have an open source OS that is quite well suited to tablets and as such has been popular with upstart companies who want to get a cheap device to market.
Are you saying that Google will only get your respect if they make Android proprietary and ban its use on tablets?
LOL @ the dude in the video...
Touch input is lame... Will anybody ever match Apple's touch input technology? Please?
@Lanzetti
Good point -- the fluidity of the iOS UI versus Android or W7C can only be appreciated by using the devices. Those who say "It's just software", ignore the years of engineering and integration it took to get to this level.
Hint to Taiwan: forget about using those leftover netbook LCDs in your tablets. We don't want them over here.
It's good to finally see a tablet with 2.x of Android. Is it really that hard?? There's so many tablets with 1.5 or 1.6.... I never really understood why they wouldn't just slap a newer version on there. It's as if the coding changes drastically or something. More tablets with 2.x are definitely needed.
The A9 processor. It's like the A4, but, like, one louder. This one goes up to 9.
@Landwomble It needs to go to 11
@CalgaryTechGuy
Why not 12? You scared?
I have been waiting for a cheaper device like an ipad, I have a Sony x10i and like I android, but getting really sick of shitty tablets "coming out " then nothing, So yesterday I was lucky to get a Dell 1011 and its now a hackintosh, how much £125. Sorted. And yes its not tablet but it is smaller than my HP DM 1 1010sa...
Another Android tablet doom to fail.
Who is this company?
He keeps saying it's fast, but it is not. He reminds me of a bad car salesman.
can it support wiimote and dualshock 3 controllers?
Just release this already!!
"and if California slides into the ocean, like the Mystics and statistics say it will, I predict that Charbax will be there, with his blurrycam......." ~
If this thing has a Webcam then I am in for one. I want a tablet with a front facing camera. Anyone know of any tablets with a front facing camera?
They really need an IPS screen on these things. standard tft LCD isn't cutting it for me anymore.
The video is not informative. The guy should have tested some 720p/1080p videos, and test some multitouch on picture, paint, and browser zooming.
I want this tablet cant wait til this dual screen version is released The TCT lightning fast speed because its powered by GOD.

Can one of those companies just release a tablet already...
ARRRGGGHHH
