Motorola boosts Milestone XT720 spec with 720MHz CPU and 512MB RAM
Some of you weren't too pleased to see Motorola's new Milestone hitting Europe with just 256MB of memory and a 550MHz processor, and it seems like Moto has listened. We're sure the XT720 would've done just fine running Android 2.1 with its previous spec, but we're hardly going to begrudge a free upgrade. The TI OMAP3440 is now running at 720MHz -- something Motorola had told us the phone was always capable of, though the company had initially opted to downclock away from it, presumably in an effort to extend battery life. RAM gets a healthy doubling to 512MB, bringing the Milestone XT720 more in line with its "premium multimedia" boast, while the launch date seems to remain unaltered: later this month for Europe and a big fat question mark for the USA.

SWEET!
@itsallnewstuff
If this comes to T-MO ill be gettin this baby.
With those specs I gave it a chance.
@itsallnewstuff
Meh. Locked bootloader. Nexus One still looks beter.
@JAG
My Desire can't stop laughing at this specs
@Plexus Don't worry, i'm sure its 8mp with 720p Video recording and Xenon flash is laughing at your Desire :-)
@Plexus
And I cant stop laughing at your Desire's design.
@itsallnewstuff SWEET? Really? With those specs and a locked bootloader, it's like selling a comb to a bald guy.
@Plexus
You crazy? Desire? This is a MEDIA MONSTER!!!
This phone has all I want!!
who laughs last laughs best!!!!
Anything less than 1GHz should be ignored... Boost that CPU, Moto.
@amnigo
So an ARM cortex9 clocked to 720 is less than a Snapdragon cause of the 1ghz number?
LOL, man u should be real, Samsung galaxy S processor I think is twice better than Snapdragon. So what else u need?
@JAG with the 1700/2100 HSDPA+ Band IV this is sporting it's definantly T-Mobile 3G capcable!
@JAG No, it's only a few percent better. I would know. Google "Hummingbird vs Snapdragon"
"Big fat question mark for the USA" ... I see what you did there.
@carlosol loool good catch :p
Blur?
@GeneralThade Nvm, I can see MotoBlur on the image of the phone.
@GeneralThade Nope. Stock Android.
@GeneralThade Good point, but Motorola told us it won't be on the phone. Who knows what they're up to.
@Vlad Savov
O nice. I'm losing patience for manufacturers inability to effectively enhance stock android. Maybe with exception to Sense.
@GeneralThade
Insane....they used the cpu clock speed for the model name.
@pixelog
Seriously....
@Indefinite Implosion
I Agree With You That Sense Is Wonderful, And Better Than MotorBlur. But I Would Take A Stock Android Unit Over Sense. A Stock Android OS Is Easier For Vendors To Port To Existing Handsets And Thru The Android Market You Can Add Many Features That Sense Has. The Updates For HTC's Prior Handsets Have Not Been As Fast As Many Would Like.
@Insomniac Sinner I agree with you, i went from a nexus one running 2.2 to an EVO and even though i still really like Sense UI if i had the choice i would go with Stock android
@Insomniac Sinner
Is anything other then the Nexus One actually running stock Android? Think about it. Google gives away Android for free, so because they do, they can't give it away with corporate ActiveSync Exchange support.
Because they can't do that, Motorola and HTC have to seperatly license EAS from Microsoft and impliment what features they want. This is why HTC Android devices can actually support PIN and remote wipe, while Moto devices (I've only used the 'Droid) can do email, but not PIN or remote wipe.
So even when 2.2 comes out, Moto still has to make sure the Exchange support they built into their version of "stock" android works on the new update, or they take the oportunity to add more Exchagne features to the build. I don't think it is as "stock" as you think it is.
@Insomniac Sinner
Trying to figure out why you would capitalize every word in your post. Do you enjoy spending more time typing, or is it an "artsy, rebellious" thing?
Please advise.
@yipcanjo I Was Wondering The Same Thing. Lol
It was like the hardest thing to read ever.
Build it, and they will come
1680MHz to go Moto..
@gargle wtf? :D what kind of math did I use? 1280+720 = 2000.. geez.
@gargle
Dont worry. Nobody would mind if they add 1680MHz to the current clock speed.
@cpquit
And a 4000mAh battery
@cpquit
And 2GB of RAM.
@cpquit
And a physical keyboard.
@cpquit
and a FIRE BREATHING DRAGON!
@Midnitte
And an 8+ GB ROM.
@pfox
+1 for that dude.
@gargle
just wait for the shadow...this phone still uses 65nm tech....and on that can get to 1.3ghz...45nm should easily get to 1.7ghz...2.0ghz if ur lucky and if u have a really really long power cord lol
@gargle
Motorola Milestone was my idea.
@Xylias sorry, Charline beat you to it.
the spec sheet summarizes everything that's wrong with the industry :-)
I'm seriously not trying to flame bait here. Just observing.
i just want the shadow to come out. this thing is ugly.
Hello Moto! Not bad.
so they decided to forgo battery life and jack up the processor speed after all and then give it a new model number. Early adopters cry. Sell your 2 month old Moto Android on ebay and run like Forest to the new thing.
iPhone 4 has a 1ghz un-snapdragon so shut up. Also I've got a calculator with two line display that looks nicer than that!
@markolic
We don't actually know that for certain, the A4 processor in the iPhone 4 could be underclocked...
As always good stuff Motorola, good stuff.
Nice bump in the specs and apparently Stock Android. Awesomeness.
That's almost the 2GHz they were talking about earlier.....
@Motorola, Samsung, HTC &others : Igive you a 1$ idea to improve your design: just stop putting your factory logo in front of your products.
I don't wanna spend my life reading the name of your companys.
When I pay for a smartphone, I want it beautifull and usefull. Not just a way for you to push your corporate ad.
Do what ever you want with the back side ... but let the front side free of any thing useless like your logo.
@fiduce: this is the next best design thing that is gonna make everything look like vintage in 6 months.
