TiVo Slide QWERTY Bluetooth remote appears on the FCC test bench
The TiVo Premiere experienced a rough introduction to the world earlier this year, as its early software revisions exposed some rough edges and performance issues, but we hope that's not the case for the yet-to-debut TiVo Slide remote. Since we got our hands on one at CES it's only appeared in glossy press pics but the road to store shelves and easy video on-demand browsing means a pit stop on the FCC's test bench where its manual and insides have been pulled apart for the world to see. It can work as a standard and learning remote over IR but that keyboard is only operational over Bluetooth (you can, of course, bring your own in the meantime.) Dig through the gallery for all the information available -- the only thing we didn't find was a shipping date or a price tag.

I'll stick with my RTI T2-C or whatever it's called. I don't need QWERTY.
Looks, really cheap.
Let me stress, LOOKS, I am ignorant otherwise.
@AdamSpruijt
Yeah ... and I bet those painted numbers/letters will rub off in 6 months.
That's a realllly good idea.
Why stop with remotes? Why not start slappin' on some QWERTY goodness onto every product? >_
@JCrooz QWERTY microwaves?
@JCrooz QWERTY kettles?
@JCrooz QWERTY iPhones?
Why do I feel like TiVo is reaching the end of its lifecycle?
Hmm....This somehow looks like a fleeting fad waiting to happen. When's WebTV coming back for crissakes?
Black is a good color.
That looks pretty poor, all I need is another remote with 50 buttons.
Bring on Natal to control it all!
If that was a track ball on the left....
Its really great...will this work with a PS3 as it works over bluetooth?
Been done (see: sky+ navigator remote) but that actually looks like it might be reasonably ergonomic, which would be a turn up for the books.
@Wolfticket Also the vizio remote, which has bluetooth.

LOL iPhone 4 killer!
Well this is nice and pointless. When will companies stop producing rubbish and just make a few quality products?
My friend just bought a Vizio and it has a remote like this. It feels terrible, I would hate to use it on a regular basis. I hope the TiVo remote is better.
What a terrible looking remote.
Old people will love it. Or blind people.
I own a TiVo HD, and I love it. I was hoping the Premier would be amazing, but instead, it sucks. Boo.
@hungarianhc Completely agree. Seems like Tivo is circling the drain lately. I like my Tivo HD okay still but in a year or two at this pace all their users will be gone.
@hungarianhc
I am also a HUGE Tivo HD fan, but they have been pretty stale lately. I keep waiting for them to offer subscribers to buy more Tivos for their house without having to buy more subscriptions, or at least offer a box that can connect to a TV in another room and stream to it from the main Tivo.
Can be a google TV keyboard/control
looks like an ugly shoe
bleah
NICE!
Way too complicated. Let me guess, their UI must be horrible.
Firstly I thought these are just two RC's lying one on another :)
Too bad you can't really use a tivo anymore with comcast or RCN.
meh.
I got far more enthusiastic when I saw the Boxee remote. This looks like one of those ugly bulky Windows MCE remotes
Looks gross
Wow....how full of totally, awesome FAIL.
Seriously, who the hell needs a QWERTY-styled tv (Tivo or not) remote?? Nobody searches of their freakin' tv/cable/satellite search option that much to warrant wasting money on something that this....
I think most of you are missing the point or have never used TIVO. There is nothing like a real keyboard to get to a show to record instead of up 2 across 3 to get one letter. then down 4 across to get the next. Now that TIVO can get web access, there's another use for QWERTY. I can't wait for this to be released. It will make my TIVO life so much easier. I have three around the house. They all talk to each other and have lifetime subscriptions. I never have to think of billing and I've had two of them long enough to have paid for the third already. Everything from now on is a bonus. Rethink your comments.
