AT&T data down across the Southeast, Puerto Rico? (update: should be back to normal)
This hasn't exactly been a banner week for wireless uptime; Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon have all seen some trouble over the course of the past few days, and now we're getting tipped that AT&T data services are down once again in the Southeast. Last time, the problems seemed limited to Florida, but now we're hearing that customers spanning from Atlanta to Louisiana are having trouble -- and even Puerto Rico has apparently been pulled into the mess. What's everyone seeing out there?[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Update: Everything should've been back online as of roughly midnight ET last night. Here's the statement we've received from AT&T:
"Due to an earlier equipment issue caused by a fiber cut, some customers in the Southeast region experienced issues with their 3G data service. AT&T technicians quickly worked to resolve the issue, and all service should be up and running. We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers."

Still down here in Monroe, LA. Was up for an hour but 3G was really slow. Slower than edge now we have no service at all.
New Orleans down since 11AM ... Baton Rouge reports outage as well.
I wonder if BP uses ATT ....
No data in mobile, al
Mines out along with everyone else I know w/at&t down here... I'm in New Orleans :)
Bougth a new iPad 3G 64g here in Puerto Rico and when I try to enable the 30$ month unlimited it tells me it can't connect to the 3g network. This SUCKS!!!!
@shadowxpr you may only be able to use the $25 data plan. As of June 7th was the last day you could get grandfathered into the $30 unlimited data plan.
Well, I live in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, and I haven't had any issues at all, either with calls or data. Granted, I haven't used my data that much today, but I was out from 7:30am till about 11am, and nothing was up. I've had my iPhone 3GS since last October and AT&T seems to work much better here in PR than in the states (perhaps because they bought Cingular which had a lot of coverage, and now they are using their towers).
Yep, no 3G or edge in charleston, sc
If the money going to ceaseless BS advertising was spent on network hardware we might actually have some decent service in this country. Sometimes capitalism doesn't work. I hate to say that but the competition between the top cell companies is not serving us at all. But then, if some gubmint org ran one publicly owned/controlled cell service ... it would probably be even worse.
3G and Edge down in Raleigh, NC...my foursquare is suffering :(
Yes, it's true! I was at the airport in PR all morning, 3G data would not connect on my iPhone or iPad. Voice and texts were perfect, I even had 5 bars of 3G. Error messages were always the same, along the lines of "cellular data is unavailable, the network did not respond.
PR is still having data problems...
Mine is down now in Charlotte, NC
From a conversation with customer service, the source of problem, a primary optical fiber cable in Ohio was physically severed by a construction crew that dug in the wrong place. The location has been determined and it should be spliced within the next few hours.
Apparently the entire southeast data service between the Mississippi River and Appalachian mountain chain and around the Gulf Coast ran off that cable.
The East Coast wasn't originally affected because it uses a separate data cable, but restructuring the network so everyone shared the eastern cable apparently pushed it beyond capacity and triggered more outages.
Was out in Winston-Salem NC for a few hours, have it back now TG!
Now working in gonzales,la( baton rouge) after a 12hr outage
I live in Atlanta and I've seen no interruption of my data today. Can't wait to get the new iPhone 4! I'm currently running the GM Build IOS4 on my 3GS and all I can say is wow. The phone is so fast, app load times are amazing. By far the best mobile OS I have ever used.
It is/was a dead router, probably a Cisco box with no spare. Lets asj Cisco and AT&T!!!!
It was a Cisco router with no spare!
Got Edge now... Still no 3G... Sigh... (New Orleans, LA)
3g still down in new Orleans La
im sorry where where testing 2 iphone4g to iphone4g video calling without the wifi only restrictions and we crashed the network
our deepest apologies at&t
Big fiber cut in Ohio...caused all sorts of issues....WOW! Lots of spagetti in the cloud!
I was having issues in Jacksonville, FL yesterday. It was worse driving to Gainesville, FL, about an hour and a half to the SW. Seems to be better, now. A couple months ago there were total dead spaces in Gainesville, though, so I might just be in an OK-zone or something.
This is kinda ticking me off; why the hell are there so many problems recently??
