Solar powered tattoo gun makes the earth happy, doesn't guarantee you won't regret that Biz Markie ink
Hey, if we told you that you could get a tattoo from a guy in Dallas who uses a rotary tattoo gun powered by a solar panel, would you go for it? The guy in the video below sure did.

That is ridiculously unsanitary. I hope this guy gets a visit from the health inspector.
Neat invention, though. Just shouldn't be used unless you find a way to sleeve the cables and not have some guy WITHOUT GLOVES holding it.
@SomEngangVar ya i agree thats disgusting! Infection city!
@SomEngangVar I'm not sure if you guys have tats, but there was nothing done wrong here. The guy actually doing the work was wearing gloves and I'm sure he used a clean needle. The person holding the panel a foot away and had no contact with the surface doesn't really need to do anything but stay out of the way. The only concern is you don't really want to introduce sunlight to fresh tats for a couple of weeks.
@JALee8, I'm not sure if you've ever gone over the required sterilization methods for a tattoo shop-But this is definitely not conforming to them. There's even a point where they admit to this; after 7:10. It's a very interesting idea but if they were doing this and the health board happened upon it, they would be shut down immediately. there is no cover on the clip cords, the person holding the power source is not sterile, heck, the tattoo artist touched parts of the stand that was not covered/sterile with the gloves he had on currently and then began tattooing without changing gloves. It's an amazing idea and kudos for him coming up with it, however I can't say after seeing this I would get any art done from this guy, due to the lack of commitment towards the health of his clients.

You all need to learn some tat laws for Texas. What they did IS NOT ILLEGAL nor can they be shut down for that practice. They followed sanitary measures and law. So what u feel is bad doesn't mean it is!

Sorry to point this out, but the artists face was closer to the leg that the guys hand holding the solar panel.....what I think? I think you just got a week stomach. If we all went to jail for getting tattoos from someone not licensed (which means what? that the government taxed them.....ok), it be right there with them. Two of mine are from friends in there dinning rooms lol. Everything done here was fine, every tattoo I've gotten was done with the same amount of precaution or more (except for being out in the sun, a no no lol). Take your interwebs nerdrage elsewhere my friend.
nice find
if you had an open glass tattoo shop then it would work well
Sun and tattoos are pretty much not two things you want mix together.. Especially for the first few weeks.
Mr Shakycam made me vomit about 16 seconds in so I couldn't watch to the end. I assume this will make Zune tattoos?
@JALee8
I have a lot of tattoos. My girlfriend is a tattoo artist. A lot of my close friends are tattoo artists.
If anyone touches anything without having sterile gloves on, you throw it out. It doesn't matter what it is or who touches it. If it isn't disposable, you have to stop and scrub it with alcohol or toss it in the autoclave. Everything that will be anywhere near the general vicinity of the person getting tattooed has to be sterile and in the case of clip cords, which is essentially what the cords going from the coil to the solar panel are, they need to be covered in a sterile sleeve keeping any contaminants which may be on the cord away from the tattoo. I don't particularly know how strict things are or what the government deems to be safe where you go for tattoos, but if this guy tried this around here he'd get shut down in a heartbeat. Just having someone standing that close to the ink and supplies in general would make any artist I know freak out.
Well why dont they just use solar panels on the roof an a battery to store all that energy than just run the gun hooked up to the battery wouldnt that be the same thing.. That way u can stay inside wher is sanitary
@Sacrabear
Lets be honest is in side the shop any significant amount more sterile then outside? In all accounts the only thing needing to be referenced here is the air outside vs in. No contact with anything outside besides air was made. So you would deduce is the air outside dirtier then the air inside? I'd figure no. doors open air from outside fills the inside. People track in germs when they enter as well. So as long as u follow sterilization laws for your state u can set up practice outside. Many conventions USA wide have tattooing setup outside for events. So if you feel it is dirty then it is "to you".
"Sorry, sun went out. Got only a part of your fiancée, Sheila Dicksons, name done. Got half of her lastname done."....
I think its great that so many of you are concerned with cleanliness. However, there is a lot of misinformation in these comments. A lot of you are confusing sterile with aseptic. I tattoo or piercing done properly is a aseptic. Procedure and not a sterile procedure. Boxed gloves for instance are not sterile. Clip cord covers....not sterile. Are they aseptic? Yes. But not sterile. Tattooing should not be done outside. That is not a controlled environment. Large amounts of airborne particulate matter. Not aseptic. Is that going to give you hepatitis C? No. But you may end up with an infection. That's all the splitting of hairs I have for now.
Joy! Feel the itch already? :-)
The earth doesn't have feelings.
Sounds like the perfect gun for Burning Man.
Great, now I got the song "Just a Friend" stuck in my head.
So I'll do what I can to get it stuck in yours.
OH YEAH BAYBEEE YOU
YOU GOT WHAT I NEEEEEEEED
BUT YOU SAY HE'S JUST A FRIEND
BUT YOU SAY HE'S JUST A FRIEND
F.Y.I. They're called tattoo machines, a gun shoots bullets. Unless you have more fingers than teeth, sport a mullet or get Taz tattoos at your kitchen table with a guitar string and a tape player don't call them guns....
I would hit up all the hot springbreak spots and give tat's on the beach. I think you would make a killing to the young drunks
