Kinect in the flesh!
There she blows. Microsoft's Kinect (formerly known as Project Natal), real at last. Of course this unit isn't on or doing anything, but it is striking a sexy pose next to some other black Microsoft hardware. Hopefully it'll have an Xbox 360 Slim to hang out with after this keynote is over!

Go Microsoft
@potretr
Nice. I read that Nintendo didnt wanted this idea some years later... hahaha
@jocantonio
Years later? Wow, you have a time machine?
That thing is huge.
@Nintendo Tim
Sigh..
Thats what she said.
@Paul Elmy
thats the point!
@potretr FACKING BEAUTIFUL.
@Paul Elmy
No, he meant years before, Nintendo experimented with camera motion tech for the wii, but it didnt work out that well, so they moved to motion controllers
@SolidSnake
She says this to everybody! So that they don't feel bad! With the real ones, she just pants.
@Nintendo Tim
That's what she said
NO SLIM HARDWARE?! :(
but still one sexy combo!
Sexy!
Yea. Wheres the slim? Thats what I'm dying to see... :S
Now a thinner XBOX 360? With a DVD drive that doesnt sound like its dying? No? Damn...
@Bskballa92 - better still a BLUE RAY drive! Sayin...
I didn't know it was that big!
@Filth2Fury That's what she....
@Filth2Fury That's probably due to the angle of the photograph and the wide-angle lens. It's not as big as the picture makes you think.
Why does everyone want a slim 360 so badly? I think the 360 is fine as is, and honestly do you want to shell out and additional $300+ for a new piece of hardware that you already own? I understand the value for NEW customers, but seriously... Your going to buy a new Xbox just because its skinnier? C'mon...
@Saljen
I currently own a PS3, so if I wanted an XBOX 360, why wouldn't it be wrong to have a slimmer version, it's just more value. I find Kinect's cooler than the PS Move.
@Saljen Some people always have to have the latest regardless. Being on a gadget blog you should know that lol.
@Saljen: Im getting one and I have current hardware. For the simple fact that its quieter and has N wireless built in.
This is actually perfect for a low noise environment to use as a Media Center extender. But first, ill be replacing my existing loud-ass console.
And hey, if it isnt much better, thats what 30 day return policies are for.
bye bye wii ...
Does anyone know why it needs 3 cameras?
@Filth2Fury
It doesn't have 3 cameras. It is one infared depth sensor and two cameras, for accurate positioning.
It has one regular color camera, one IR depth-sensing camera, and an IR "flash" that's coordinated with the IR depth-sensing camera. The latter two work together; it uses a time-of-flight sensing of the IR flash to detect depth, which is pretty incredible, actually, given how fast light travels.
Johnny 5 is alive
Current model looks better. If Kinetic is the real-deal, I'll just buy the peripheral.
i'll be buying an xbox to complement the ps3 and get rid of my stupid wii after i finish super mario galaxy 2 when it comes out
I am a bit concerned someone will hack it and be able to turn the camera on remotely.
Won't stop me from buying one however :)
So did you get a hands on or was their a Kinect barrier keeping you away?
DAM YOUS A SEXY BITCH!
I WANT!!!!!!!!!!!
Am I the only one who hates motion controllers and the very idea of them? This attachment looks like it's huge!
@malexandria1
No you are not, I'm not keen on this thing either. Leave it for the Wii.
People like to feel like they're up to date with technology. They have to have the newest stuff just because.
Will it be better than a Wii??
@Kiwi No. The Wii will be worst...
I've taken out the abacus so I can count the number of DOA Kinects that'll get shipped
No seriously it looks cool.
I ain't getting it cause I'm waiting for sony to release stuff.
Playing Super Street Fighter 4 on this would be very interesting.
Imagine FADC ( Focus-Dash-Cancel) into Ultra Combo.

That is not slim at all.
Here is my question. If I bought this, where would it go???
Seriously, this thing isn't exactly a Wii sensor bar and it looks like it is high enough to get in the way of my TV. I doubt it would work well under my TV on the lower shelf of my stand. Just how distracting would it be to have this piece of gear sitting in front of the TV?
What about people who have soundbars? What about wall mounted TVs? Will Kinect work if I have to put it in a corner due to space constraints???
Then I have the issue of my coffee table. It would have to be moved every time I would want to use the Kinect. It would suck to need to move around furniture every time I want to play a game.
I guess you could put the Kinect away and just get it out when you want to use it but that is a pain.
Did anyone at Microsoft ask these questions before they designed the peripheral?
Yeah, how's this going to work connected to my custom Escalade back-seat setup? Don't MS realize I can't jump up and down in the back seat of my whip while I'm sippin on Crystal with my shawty?
Slim???????
The "fat" ones cannot even handle the heat they currently produce. Id pay extra for an even fatter one if it did not sound like a jet engine preparing for takeoff and save myself the constant red ring hassle at the same time.
@arcsum68 LOL one reason I was scared of buying an Xbox. I went with the PS3 and two years down the road it's gotten a little louder compared to when it was new. Though its still much better than the Xbox as my friend has one and it really creates an ugly noise. You have to turn it off to take a freaking nap.
i am a bit curious that nobody has asked for a white version.
And usually happens, if a product is white then people ask for the black version and if it is black the people whine about the white version. And if there are both version black and white then people will grunge for a colored version.
There show blows indeed...just check out how bad that star wars demo was. Blows....
forget about slim or not. I want to know if they will make the power brick less bricky I mean it's like carrying around a newborn with umbilical cord lol.
Looks pretty slick. Though it will most likely go down as a failure. The Wii hype is over. Microsofts a little late to the game. Sonys Move is going to be a failure too.
Why not invest more time in better games. The only fun thing on consoles are FPS and Sports games (out of which many lack real quality). Microsft & Sony need to get their act together.
Nintendo sucks anyway. I am still a proud owner of the PS3.
Kinect. As if MS doesn't have enough issues with XBox Guaranteed DA12 (Dead After 12 Days/Weeks/Months) hardware as it is.
You keep the Kinect. Just give me a 360 with the Valhalla chipset
