that did look like a joystick like I had on my e61. I would rather have optical dpad. if this is really original video, I might have to postpone preordering the n8 and see what this baby has to offer. Seems fake tho.
the video in youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAVA0uWoguw
Well the screen seems a bit smaller then I would like but I'm pretty sure I just saw my next phone make a cameo in the dumbest "ad-like thingy" ever
Nokia just loves to leak stuff
looks awesome. the flat yet separated keys remind me of the TP2, which if this is any indication of, would be perfect.
Sorry but that's clearly Symbian Foundation video.
It's no meeGo i can tell you that.
@Pdexter you're almost certainly right .. the N8/N9 are Symbian ^3 the MeeGo devices have an Sxx designation .. in the "House" model I saw someplace .. hrm .. where was that again ..
@goseki
Nope, the S series is NOT Meego. The link to the interview with a Nokia executive is a few posts above. Read it.
@goseki, N9-xx series will sport MeeGo (the one to be released this fall Maemo 6 rebranded as MeeGo), S series are for `special` devices, and will most likely replace the old 8xxx series in the new Nokia portfolio.
@Pdexter It's clearly not a Symbian Foundation video. For one we don't make devices, for another the Nokia logo is at the end of the video.
@goseki
Alberto Torres, Nokia EVP, MeeGo Computers clearly stated that MeeGo phone will be on Nseries and not rumoured Sseries.
That is hot! I'll take one, especially in white...
I have Nokia N97 since June'09 and I swear to god I will never ever buy Nokia phones!! wat the heck $699 for Nokia N97 gimme a break!!
I still want a N900 :3
I'm so waiting to get info on N9 already. If this is a real pic, the device looks great, but it makes me bit concerned about the keyboard. N900 keyboard, while only 3 rows, works well and allows really fast consistent typing. The droid type flat keys just don't work quite so nicely.
Anandtech had a good review N900 vs Droid that explained the matter well.
(grrrrr)
I'm NOT seeing space for a dedicated number row here....
Brainblast!
Single row of customizable virtual keys that can be set to pop up on the bottom edge of the display when the keypad is exposed....
Get on it, nerds.
@c w j
oh - one last thing: SQ is low, I don't think this is real.
but I still wanted to b!tch about no number row.
@c w j
That's a really good idea, to have a single line of virtual keys allowing a more spaced out keyboard. Patent it.
Mega-fake.
I hope MeeGo will be far better than Symbian 3 coz the N8 looks mighty sluggish if not slightly unresponsive in this recent hands-on video in Singapore:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRyTpncnkkY&feature=player_embedded
i'd feel dumb for purchasing this phone solely because of this ad; although, it does look pretty b.a.
Didn't the old rumors said that it's QWERTY-less?!
Well, I agree with the people feeling this video was pretty far from professional quality. On the other hand, I feel this might just be Nokia's idea of how to create a viral video... "Let's put in some Van Damme and cut out images of a leaked N9 without any shadowing or such to make it look amateurish". The more we talk about it, the more they've succeeded. I for one hope the N9 turns out to be the spiritual successor to the N900 that fixes all its wrongs.
Eldar will release a review tonight (he just waited for a leak because he didn't want to be the first).
@ArticiaS
And where did you learn this?
It would be quite interesting if true.
Somebody should port Dalvnik and the Android libraries to run under Meegoo (and some ways to emulate some Android kernel features like de wakelocks). If I could run some Android software on this thing, I would be buying it instantly.
This most certainly ain't the N9. Nokia already said that the N9 will come w/o qwerty keyboard and with a cap. screen, which makes it pretty much pointless, YMMV.
@incognito
I hope to god those earlier rumours were wrong...
I thought the excerpt of that person who supposedly spoke to one of the engineers, said that it "looks likely" that there'll be no qwerty because of cap. screen.
That doesn't mean there "won't" be a qwerty...
IMO no qwerty (& cap. to a lesser extent) is just plain lame, and forgets the spirit/focus of the original n900.
Can't really be sure if this is a genuine Nokia video...but it could be explained by one of two things:
1) It is a fake
2) Nokia hired the marketing firm which HP fired just after acquiring Palm
My best guess is #1, above. However, Nokia's CEO is a lawyer...not a technology marketer by any stretch. So, #2 remains plausible.
@Engadget Fan 89
+1 for the HP comment....LOL
Seems fake to me.
Despite that post earlier saying MeeGo will be released on an N series phone I don't think this is it. The design is too similar to an N8. The video shows nothing of MeeGo so I would think it is Symbian.
I think the video is fake. I also think that the first meego device will have a virtual keyboards. but who knows.
I'm very sure that this video is fake
well think about it, they haven't released the N8 yet and there would be a N9 demo video leaked?
The video doesn't even show anything..
Now i'd like the N9 (holy grail?) as much as anyone here but it's obviously "fake"
Reminds me of a ZX80, or Jupiter Ace! :-)
Nice ass phone nokia...better come out
people comparing this to a kin competitor really have no clue. Carry on. Ad looks stupid as hell maybe that's what is throwing people.
I call fake. The N900 doesn't have any face buttons, and this one seems to have three. I think MeeGo is going to continue to be all touch.
Wow. It's been a long while since I've seen a Nokia handset I can call beautiful (with a straight face).
As someone who had enough years (10+) of bad experience with Nokia I'm pretty amazed.
Looks good but....uhhhh, is that Jean Claude Van Damme? ftw!
nice.. finally.. nokia figures out thin
it's a possible N9 device. if you noticed... the menu button... the home, option and 'globe' button, they're actually 'changeable' on the early series of screens they remained the same button with the same functions.. but later, it changed into call/phone and option button. even better... the buttons could be seen to be 'rotated' when the phone was held in portrait or landscape mode. ;-) lovin the look of it. its hot yet not geek enuff... i also love the iPhone 4, but it is too square.... nonetheless tastes are subjective. ;-)
@hated one
Wow.
i like nokia, but their new design (n8, n9) is not that great imho.
I kinda looks like a macbook keyboard I hope it is a good one.
looks so fake, but would be great if its real....... lets hope nokia pay attention 64gb internal memory, twin micro sd slots, 4 inch amoled screen, hd recording 12mp camera........ hmmmm what else would i like ??? ovi store reborn no customer services on i notice, i got shafted on it no refund, no contact.... so sort it out nokia and stop designing a 1000 phones a week and focus like apple!!
