Samsung Galaxy S gets torn down, looks equally beautiful on the inside (video)
You'll be hard pressed to find a sane individual who'd argue that Samsung's Galaxy S isn't a lust-worthy piece of kit on the outside, and after watching the video past the break, we doubt you'll get too many takers on proving things unsightly within. Equipped with a Super AMOLED display and a bit of that Hummingbird goodness within, there weren't too many bits and pieces to tear apart. What was found, however, leaves a new appreciation for steady hands. Go on, give it a look-see -- the real deal will be out and about before you know it.

I was wondering why the Samsung Galaxy S gets torn down, looks equally beautiful on the inside, but now I know why :)
@uckApple
Its been so long since we had phone black on the inside, HTC.
BTW who here thinks Android looks Hacked Together = Beause its not Google 3
@Zylam agreed its the trollish name sorry "uck apple" but with those negative trollish names the should be completely banned they often don't contribute to anything just an ignorant comment to piss people off
@thugjedi91
I don't know if you can see it, but my avatar is the letter B, stating "BuckApple", meaning they are all i spend my money on.
Crappy troll, your crappy.
@uckApple You insult our intelligence uckApple....
@uckApple my bad dude I'm definitely not a troll there was nothing in my post that would suggest that when i see your name what i see is f uck apple im sincerely sorry if i offended you didn't get your name i just don't like trolls cause they are annoying and counterproductive
@uckApple Every time someone makes a comment another person does not agree on, they're automatically labeled as a troll...
Would not be surprised if I'm labeled as a troll due to this comment.
@thugjedi91
Wait a damn minute here. So when you thought his name was anti-Apple, you called him a troll, but now that he says it means that Apple is the only company that gets his money, it's okay? Double standard much? Whatever.
@Maverick128 no its the negativity in the name like someones name is cool if its positive towards somthing like "android is the best" or "iphoneftw" thats fine but its just rediculous to put negativity in your name like "android looks hacked together" or "because its not google" thats blatantly trying to upset people
Thank iPhone 3GS for the good year of use, but Android is what I need. Galaxy S ordered.
@Saad
I was in the same boat a while ago but I hav to many apps so I am goin to the iPhone 4.
Funny thing was the samsung looked slot like the iPhone from quite a few angles.
@maribo
Do you really use all of the apps you have? My bit is that you are like me and many others, we spent a lot of money buying games that finish in a day of play or we buy well-polished apps that we use for two days and forget about them forever. 8 pages of apps that I have no idea about. The problem is that everyday there is a new app, a better app, a faster app, so much that I lost track of what I need and what I want to spend my money on.
No trials, just 200,000 apps that confuse more than help. I even ended up jailbreaking my iPhone in order to get features like having an information tab on the lock screen, things that no app will ever do for the iPhone, and I have many problems with it but I would be boring you with words and talk.
Hold the Galaxy S, use it for 5 or 10 minutes, I bet you anything that you will be wowed and will order it like what I did.
@Saad you sir have gotten me to register on engadget, i agree with you. on my droid i download countless apps, play with them for maybe 30 mins, and then completly forget about them. for other apps that you use on the road, i onl use like 3, vs the other 40 or so apps i have installed, that i literally never use anymore. one reason i never buy apps.
@maribo
I don't think your paid apps should be an issue - like these other blokes have said, how often do you *really* use them all?
Aside from that - most of those paid apps will have something similar available on android, most likely for free.
I'm dumbfounded by the prices of apps every time I pick up a friends iPhone or the iPad we have at work.
People who do video tear-downs need to cut their fingernails to the same length, serriously
Anyways, Super AMOLED + humming bird = awesome. Next year's Apple A5 chip will probably (essentially) be the next version of the hummingbird plus a ultra low power Retna display, aka Super AMOLED (If samsung can ramp up capacity significantly, maybe double or tripple today)
@10nisman94 i don't see samsung making super amoled for the iphone or any one else because that would under cut there own phones
@thugjedi91 Samsung is the largest display manufacture first, and everything else second. Of course they would sell Apple an Super AMOLED.
@thugjedi91
They couldn't make them fast enough for Apples liking. At least for that many orders. At least thats what the rumor was.
Makes perfect sense tho. The technology that's in its prime is hard to mass produce for millions.
@10nisman94 I have a bet within the next year or so Apple will no longer have a need for Samsung.
Mmm, electronics porn.
@liquidkernel more like Electronics Gore Porn
It obviously helps to have long fingernails when dealing with the
Galaxy-s...
@squirt8500 i was thinking the same thing. GROSS.
My first thought was 'Tetris'.
Release it in the US already!!
I hope this doesn't come across as hate, but am I the only (sane, I think) person here who doesn't think the Galaxy S is a lust-worthy device, at all?
If we were only talking about the Super AMOLED display, then yes, it is totally lust-worthy, and I see it as fixing OLED's greatest problem while being more promising than IPS displays.
However, the phone itself looks just like any other touchscreen phone Samsung's made in the last 3 years, and I mean ANY other, as in, they all look pretty much the same. IMO, it was always a very boring design.
Sorry if I come off as hateful, though I guess I can't really excuse myself for not coming into this hating when I neither like the look of Samsung's devices nor the UIs they put on top of the OS (such as TouchWiz).
@Henzapper
It has a 4" screen. Samsung has never done that before.
@Henzapper
It's okay to express your opinion, but I'm telling you, I held the Galaxy S in my hand and it is extremely better than anything Samsung or Apple have done in the last 3 years.
The first time you hold it you will be amazed at how thin and light this thing is, like crazy light and really thin. The hardware is basic touch smartphone, clean design and a well-sized screen. As many reviews said, when you go Super AMOLED, nothing else is good again, even my TV screen looks lame now.
The real power of this phone sits inside, right in the hardware and software. The combination of these two is what made me almost cry with joy and order it immediately.
It is at the end just my opinion, but after using iPhone for almost a year now I found out that I was missing on a lot of good things out there, especially Android as an OS and its features that made me smile everytime I found something new in it, making the Galaxy S just the right device for anyone switching to Android outside of the US.
@Henzapper
I'm right there with you. The thing kind of looks like a toy to me not a nice piece of high tech electronics hardware.
@Saad You guys make some good points. Though I still don't like Samsung's phone design, I didn't consider the 4 inch screen or the build quality of the device.
I hope it comes out in the states soon (I believe rumored for T-Mobile?) so I could at least try it out.
@Saad, since you had a chance to play with it, a question:
would you still want the Galaxy as is, or would you feel better about a physical keyboard on it?
I am on the fence as to any touchscreen keyboard. How do you feel about the virtual keyboard?
@motionmonk1
To put it simple, you can't compare physical keyboards to virtual ones. Each has advantages and disadvantaged, but in my opinion, after using the virtual keyboard for so long I see it as the future no matter what, especially on phones; it gives you more screen space and better keyboard options like shifting languages with ease and more characters than can fit in a physical keyboard.
The Galaxy S introduces a new feature called Swype, which looks promising but maybe hard to master. Check videos about it on YouTube.
The Galaxy S's screen as very sensitive to touches which is a plus compared to many other capacitive touch phones, I would even argue that it is more sensitive than the iPhone, but that is just my take on it.
@Henzapper Samsung always have awesome specs on the phones but there software UI always sucks and their handsets feel plastic/cheap compared to other manufacturers. The Galaxy S is shaping up to be a neat phones but sadly the Supe AMOLED screen uses the same PenTile Matrix as the Nexus One : http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2010/06/11/samsung-galaxy-s-review/ Hopefully it doesn't look as bad.
@JKBower
It doesn't look as bad:
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2010/06/11/samsung-galaxy-s-review/
@Henzapper I completely agree with you and others, the phone looks like a plastic rectangle with some chrome accents. It reminds more of a PSP or an mp3 player than a phone, something I'd lust for when I was a kid but I know better now.
@Saad
So, have you touched and played with an iPhone 4 before? Follow your own advice next.
I'm right there with you. I'd love this phone, but have no interest in TouchWiz and an update schedule that is dubious at best. Samsung needs to prove itself with a responsive and intuitive UI (or preferably vanilla Android) with timely updates before they'll earn my money for a premium smartphone.
@Saad I have worked with OLED and "Super OLED" screens for years now. I've even had access to high res OLED screens which aren't even generally available, however OLED is inherently flawed. Color balance is none existent depending on the inks which are used. They are like sony digital camera.. they push all the colors which make you go "ooooh" with no respect for what they should be displaying. That being said .5" of screen real estate is not something earth shattering. The phone just looks like another iphone rip off.. atleast with iphone4 coming out there will be a new shape to rip off. lol.
I'm very sad.
2.2? Unlocked? 3G frequency?
@pika2000
Android 2.2. "sometime in 2010" according to Samsung
3G bands: HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 for AT&T and HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100 for T-Mobile (says gsm arena)
Unlocked: in about 100 countries. Don't know about US, but I'd assume you'd get it there as well, as long as you don't buy it from an operator.
I've always felt the Galaxy S looks like a fake-ass iPhone, bubble icons included. But yes, they do produce some quality hardware.
This girl has tools growing on her fingers.
@TheAndrey its a guy.
@TheAndrey
I wouldn't assume those are girl's nails. It could be a man hands w/ long nails. I've seen quite a few asian guys w/ long finger nails. And probably the first that had purpose for them.
@dank414 you mean drawing out lines of coke isn't a good enough use of them?
I Can't wait to get this phone. It beats the Iphone 4 in every little category. And it's android ^_^. It's Bigger, Faster, and LIGHTER than Iphone 4.
I like your nails baby :)
Announce a date and take some wind out of Apple's sails, Samsung!
I used one at CTIA this year for an extend amount of time. The hardware is up to par with current phones and the super AMOLED is very fantastic. But when it comes down to it, it's just another android device with an undesireable skin. Judging by previous Samsung models, there will be an overwhelmingly disappointing update schedule. Hardware is amazing but there is nothing save the screen to make this device stand out with the Evo, iPhone 4 and Droid Incredible on the market.
