Sprint's 4G-equipped Samsung Galaxy S Pro in the wild?
The Moment just got a whole lot less interesting, didn't it? What you're looking at is allegedly Samsung's Galaxy S Pro for Sprint, a potential blockbuster of a phone that's said to have WiMAX support and a front-facing cam -- basically, the QWERTY answer to the EVO 4G (and this one's presumably got a Super AMOLED display, to boot). It doesn't look exactly like a standard Galaxy S with a keyboard grafted on, so we're not sure how confident we are that the "Galaxy S Pro" name is going to stick by the time it hits retail -- but you could call it "ball of dung" and we suspect it'd still sell like hotcakes. Stay tuned for more on this one as we get it.
Update: Android Community has more pictures posted now that confirm both the Galaxy S branding and the 4G radio (note the "Sprint 4G" logo on back). Thanks, Linh P.!

Another crap android phone..yay
@cardfan
No offense but dude don't be stupid.
@cardfan HALLELUJAH! HOLY SHIT! WHERE'S THE TYLENOL!!??
@cardfan coming from blackberry, i love android, i didn't like iphone enough to get one.
@cardfan
another crap comment...yay
@cardfan
This will definitely find a spot for some Android folks. Personally I like my devices full touchscreen. I'm also not a fan of Samsung's layout of just a row of icons...reminds me of a competitor...
@cardfan
Ok. We've just seen proof of an Android phone with the same capabilities of the Evo 4G but with a SLIDE-OUT KEYBOARD????? MOTHER FUCKING YES!
@Yankees Win bring this baby to europe and I'll raise it as my second son!
@cardfan Why are first comments almost always shitty? It's like the worst people on the internet just sit and wait for engadget stories to be published.
@cardfan
APPHOLE go back to listen to Uncle Steve and the lies he tells!!
@cardfan
Is it running Android?
This phone looks awesome, Samsung makes good phones
@Mike10010100
Actually Sammy's Hummingbird handily outperforms the 1GHz snapdragon... it should be a killer..
@hfm WoW, I love my EVO and will keep it, but this is just another great phone for Sprint... Full QWERTY Yay, AMOLED Yay-ish... Touch Wiz, Nay...
@anexanhume THEY HAVE NO LIVES!!! OR SOULS...MAYBE THEIR GINGERS?
Are you seeing this T-Mobile?
If not, you'll be seeing me later come December!
@cardfan: really dude? grow up.
second off, this phone might be the reason I haven't bought an Evo yet.
@tklr08
Also, would it have been that much of a pain to rotate this picture 90 degrees?
@Mike10010100 more capabilities than an Evo, FTFY. Seriously, besides flash on the camera, which does have the 720p 30fps advantage, there isn't much the Evo can do that this can't while the opposite can't be said.
~90M polygons/sec
16M colors
720p @ 30fps
gaming above 30FPS, tests come close to 60FPS which is better than any Android device including the Nexus One running Froyo.
To name the top few in most people's minds.
If the Samsung tablet rumors are correct they are close or have Touchwiz 3.0 working on Android 2.2, so their promise to get 2.2 onto this device might come quicker than most people assumed.
@Mike10010100 +infinity
@juanvaldez This phone does look pretty awesome. Now I'm not sure if I will get the EVO or this phone in November when my upgrade is due. Thank you Sprint for the options. People need choices.
@blenderman345
Or we just cant get a hold of one yet!! I'm not allowed a upgrade till DEC 11 2010! That sucks Cardfans @ss! But I have a way and that way will work when a store got one already dammit!! I Have a few friends I game with on the pc that work for sprint radio shack and yes best buy and not a single store in or outside our region has one in stock. The people that are on back order get it first, my one bud said it might be a month before we see them trickle into stores and 2 months before they are radially available. But this phone here might take its place. the only thing that is stopping me is the touchwiz.
@Yankees Win It's been recalled.
This is interesting. Will it be as good as Evo but with a keyboard? I think sprint is doing their thing now. Much better phone line up. I wish them the best.
@Mike Vick
Say what you want about HTC, but I can guarantee you that Samsung is even worse when it comes to quality control and support.
I prefer sonyericsson than sumsung in terms of quality.
@mezo9090 Not with Android :)
SE handled Android like crap (cf the X10 that never came and when it did come it had Android 1.5...)
I want this waaay more than the Evo
@Mike Vick Woah, dude, optimistic and not hating on Samsung. Props.
after using swype on my Evo... physical keyboards just don't seem like such a bonus anymore...
@uhhmoney same here, just wish swype had a user dictionary as it doesn't seem to be pulling from the android one.
@noxipoo
it does... just long type the word then press space and whatever you typed is saved and swype will let you "swype" it next time you need to use the word.
@uhhmoney have to agree, I've always had a physical keyboard and the EVO was my first without. The HTC keyboard is OK, Better Keyboard is, well, "better" :) but I'm pretty hooked on Swype at this point and it really eliminates the need for a slider imo.
@uhhmoney Swype is amazing for shooting off an email or text message generally. There are lots of things that it downright sucks at, however, like typing in a url or connecting to an SSH session on my home PC. For that alone, I'd trade in my Hero for a QWERTY. I tried the Moment, too bad it was a piece of crap. Hopefully Samsung learned from those mistakes.
@uhhmoney Typing whilst semi-blind/watching something else but most importantly gaming. Gaming on a touchscreen is horrible.
I really hope that isn't the Galaxy Pro as that would mean the rest of the World won't get it.
@uhhmoney
Swype is simply amazing. Period. Point blank. Whenever my "trial" runs out I always feel lost without it. It's so hard to revert back to the old keyboard.
More on topic:
This looks like a nice phone. I'm glad they're offering a qwerty alternative to the EVO. Good for all the early adopters that this leaked when it did so they're still within their 30 day return policy.
I'd love to have a Super AMOLED display (and a physical keyboard is no longer a necessity to me after owning the hero and with the EVO's large display). If I was a new user looking into Android, it would be a hard choice between the EVO and Galaxy S Pro. I really, really love my EVO though. My only issues with the Galaxy S phones are Samsung's iPhone-esque UI and the fact that Samsung is no better with updates, support or quality control than HTC is.
So I think I'll be sticking with my EVO, but more power to all the adopters of this new beast! And props to Sprint for really going in this time around! They're sticking it to the two giants right now in the high-end department.
@uhhmoney forget swipe... speech to text is faster and has no learning curve
Where can I get swipe for my evo? Had it 4 my Droid for 3 months.
@jeffreytz where did u find the swype app? I just gt the evo and my lil bro is crazy about swype
@Gmoney3000
Search for Shapewriter in the Marketplace.
@uhhmoney FYI Samsung is also utilizing Swype, physical keyboards will always have some advantages such as gaming and multi-language scenarios.
I think I just had an orgasm
Holy fucking shit!
Jizzed*
@TheHypnotist
Haha +1
The moment was never interesting to begin with...are they still doing that crap where there's no OTA fw update, you have to actually bring the device in store to get it updated? Typical samsung garbage support.
They may use awesome hardware and their gadgets may look awesome when viewed thru a browser, but actually owning one -- that's enough story.
It will be interesting to see just how buggy their 2010 lineup will be...I wonder how it will compare to the boatloads of issues their 2009 releases had.
@DoctarPeppar Yeah, because there isn't an option to download the update yourself from Sprint's site and install it in a matter of minutes. I must have just hallucinated that twice when I updated my two phones.
@KAL326
So why can't it just be OTA like everyone else's phones then?
@DoctarPeppar I dont know I have a moment and the quality is good.. I believe it has a slow radio but thats more then likely Sprints fault.. I had to switch to Canadian CDMA radio roms on my Touch Pro to get full Rev. A..
Going from 2.5mbps to 800kbps kinda sucks..
@DoctarPeppar The two updates so far have ranged in size from around 80 to a little over 100MB and are a complete wipe/flash. Generally OTA updates are smaller patches not complete OS flashes. The EVO OTA update was around 13MB. So its not that Sprint isn't allowing OTA updates to its phones and that a Moment OTA update won't eventually happen. It just hasn't happened yet. Either way you still can do the updates yourself.
AMOLED is better than LCD, but Samsung's PenTile AMOLED is ............ not worth the money. Customers beware.
