Sprint's 4G-equipped Samsung Galaxy S Pro in the wild?
The Moment just got a whole lot less interesting, didn't it? What you're looking at is allegedly Samsung's Galaxy S Pro for Sprint, a potential blockbuster of a phone that's said to have WiMAX support and a front-facing cam -- basically, the QWERTY answer to the EVO 4G (and this one's presumably got a Super AMOLED display, to boot). It doesn't look exactly like a standard Galaxy S with a keyboard grafted on, so we're not sure how confident we are that the "Galaxy S Pro" name is going to stick by the time it hits retail -- but you could call it "ball of dung" and we suspect it'd still sell like hotcakes. Stay tuned for more on this one as we get it.
Update: Android Community has more pictures posted now that confirm both the Galaxy S branding and the 4G radio (note the "Sprint 4G" logo on back). Thanks, Linh P.!

This is why you don't jump on new phones So quick if You know something better is suppose to come around. Definitely a better choice than EVO in some cases
@EggoEspada I am returning my EVO first thing in the morning... I can't wait til this comes out... its like what happened when I gotten Hero and returned it for the Moment
And Tmobile gets screwed again.
@anotherworld
They might get the Galaxy S
@InfDaMarvel they are. July 21st.
@anotherworld man if tmobile doesn't get this i'm going to have to jump ship when my contract runs out in october...
@anotherworld
You guys are getting the Galaxy S aren't you? Personally, (though I like the specs and the fact that the S Pro has a physical keyboard), I think the Galaxy S is much better looking design wise. It just looks more elegant to me. Maybe it's just the horrible picture quality but this reminds me of the Instinct mixed with the Moment.
Sprint must have been listening when I said I needed a damn keyboard on my andriod phone with a super amoled screen.
ok now were the fuck is palm??
@young hov 718
Agreed. Palm needs to push something out!!!
Now this is what one would switch carriers for. Not a game changer.....
but a carrier changer. Jun 29 announcement?
thinkin that engadget may be mistaken here. looking at pictures of the galaxy s, there are 2 light up buttons on the front and an optical track ball. this phone lacks the track ball, and has 4 light up buttons on the front.
my guess would be something other than the galaxy s pro....moment 2 maybe?
@mjdguitar
I thought the same thing but when comparing this to leaked pictures of the Moment 2, they do not appear to be the same phone.
@JebusChrist
Agreed. but the huge sell on the galaxy s is that super amoled screen isn't it? why would they shrink it down and add more hardware buttons to the front? also, this device doesn't have that long, rectangular look like the galaxy s(and competitor.) i really think things are being mixed up.
my bet is that those old leaked photos of the 'moment 2' weren't the moment 2. maybe a pre production orig. moment and THIS is the moment 2?
So here we are a week and a couple days after the EVO's release, and we get a new Android phone with a query keyboard. I'm not confident in Samsung anymore, though, since I went through 3 Rants before I got my EVO. Oh well, this is good for those who demand for a physical qwerty keyboard.
@Metayoshi Ha! Yeah, don't get me started on the Rant. Ugh. So many bugs.
@Metayoshi
The Rant? lol. Well, that phone was ok as a messaging phone but if you tried to get on the net with that think, it just froze up. Built quality was pretty good for me though, just a crappy phone in general.
OH please i so want this phone in europe
PLZ samsung bring this to us, i'll pay pretty much anything
How is this less of a Top Story than 'How to order an iPhone'?
This sounds (and looks) awesome.
So sad no Wimax in France until at least 2011 in France...
!!!! Sprint? No gsm version info?!!!!
FUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!
I agree, more like an updated moment 2. I'm getting my EVO on payday. I like sense more than touch whiz or whatever samsung has. I agree with the dude who said wheres palm. Hell I've had the pre since aug and it's been out for a year or a lil over. Wasn't the pre supposed to compete with apple. Well we've heard of the new iphone and droid 2. Both of which came out after the pre. I actually tried the hero but returned it due to I love web os, but for evo I think I can ditch web os; specially if they can't launch a 2nd gen device after a year or even a leak of one
I have bad blood with Samsung after having to call 4 or 5 times to replace my wifes instinct.... her expectations weren't high, she just needed to go on facebook, text and send a few picture mails and even like that her phone would auto restart itself, blink, not respond, the keyboard would misalign every so often...anyway, it was a headache!!!
too bad samsung had bring super amoled to the market, hopefully HTC can get its hands on that tech.
@Chris You forget the source man? (From excitement perhaps :P)

I really hope this is not Samsung Galaxy S Pro that I was waiting for. SG Pro looks better than this one. If SGS Pro turns anything close to this mock up http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/galaxy-s-pro-keyboard.jpg then I'll buy it , but not this crap*!
*According to this picture.
@Sp4mer
notice that all of those pages are now taken down? maybe androidcommunity realized what we have! this can't be the galaxy s pro!
I hate how these websites put these banners right in the middle of the photo, same with droid-life...hmfff
Well, I have my EVO already, but if I knew this was coming earlier, I would have probably waited, but I am happy with my decision to get into Android.
That Samsung pictured with the keyboard looks nothing like the normal Galaxy S and that screen isn't 4". This might be a different Samsung model altogether outside the Galaxy line.
@mosaicbrandon
woops sorry dude tried to + ya and did the opposite...
I agree completely.
Good Specs...ugly design.....
BREAKING NEWS: THIS JUST IN........ Shit Just got Real.
The original post @ androidcommunity.com got pulled, but I managed to save a pic of the backside of the camera:
- definitely 4g,
- from what I could tell 5 MP camera, with flash
GALAXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXYYYYY -glaze my eyes on its beauty-
I am glad that I waited and not get the EVO until this baby comes along. I just got to wait for few more months. I need the physical keyboard, because I am going blind due to a genetic defect in my eyes.
No way, an android phone with a 5 row qwerty? Well I haven't seen one of them since the G1.. unless I am missing one or two.. I don't really like the layout of the keys but oh well.
Price? Plan? Galaxy tax like the Evo tax??
@CallDon Yes, 4G=tax. There will be other ways to get your Galaxy on without a tax, question is will it have a qwerty keyboard
This phone definitely looks interesting. I wonder if they will put it out without the EVO 4G surcharges. I'm sure not paying for non-existent 4G! I'll wait a few months to see what HP / Palm come up with before deciding if I am switching to Android. I personally think WebOS is far superior to Android at the moment with the exception of applications. It just needs better hardware!!!
The Moment, now rooted and with the "Nexus Lightning" ROM from SDX Developers is by far my favorite phone. It was really what I always wanted - a HTC Mogul that didn't run Windows Mobile and was fast. With the SDX ROM, boy howdy does it fly.
But.. seriously? If this is true, I suspect I'll be calling in a favor from our Sprint rep. I'm not kidding, if it's the Moment +++ umm.. perfect phone?
Granted I'll probably wait until it's rooted so I can get the WiFi tethering... maybe. Big maybe.
@bdinger could you lead me to some directions on how to get that for my moment? =o
I really hope that T-Mobile gets this phone.
Sprint just got the EVO,they don't need another good phone on their crap network.lol
@TheLazyGenius T-mobile is crap.
This looks more to me like a 3.5 inch AMOLED samsung moment 2. the screen cannot be 4 inch looking at that pic, and doesnt look as vibrant as the super AMOLED in the original Galaxy S...
my question is... where da hell is palm?? an announcement soon might sway me away from getting the iPhone 4 next month
Correction, its the Galaxy S alrite... looks uglier than the original imo
Guess ill be giving the Moment to my dad, so should I get this or the Evo? I'm not sure if I can go back to lcd screens. Contrast is sooooo niiice on here o_O
I am soooo disappointed that this is going to be on Sprint. I was so hoping that it would have gone to Verizon.
Looks like the perfect phone - supposedly high-end features, but with a usable keyboard.
:(
See Verizon, you should have make the Droid Xtreme with a keyboard and front facing camera. Instead you go the no keyboard route, then leak the Droid 2 which is barely an upgrade from current Droid.
I just hope this thing doesn't have a skin on it. It already looks like it does.
This is a nice smart phone. i love it...there is lots of feather
