The popular rumor going around right now at the eleventh hour is that AT&T will only be offering the black
iPhone 4 models for pre-order tomorrow and at launch, with their white counterparts coming "later this Summer." Considering the fact that the white version of the 4 is quite a bit more distinctive than the 3G / 3GS, that's a bummer if true -- but what we
don't know is whether this is strictly limited to AT&T. It's entirely possible that Apple and third-party retailers will be offering the white models, and AT&T's own distribution channel might just be suffering from some sort of buffoonery (that's our hope, anyhow). Lending credence to the rumor is the fact that Japan's SoftBank has already officially announced that it'll only be offering the black models initially -- and when we pressed AT&T on the matter, we got "no comment" in return. It's not looking good, folks.

I like the white one due to the fact that it will most likely hide most fingerprints.. even though it says that it is "finger print resistant", it is a glass phone, meaning you will see finger prints.. thats my main reason..

Eh. The white-on-both-sides look isn't as nice I think as having black on both sides. If it were a black/white hybrid like the 3G/S models had, that'd be worth getting, but assuming both sides of the black-colored glass have the oil-resistant coating on them, the black-black will be the way I'd go.

@theinternetstom I have no problem with Apple's "lack of Choice". You go to Apple to buy the iPhone, iPad or the iPod touch. That's what they offer. Now see, Apple has choice, Contract or No Contract. Whereas Android, you're mainly stuck with a contract if you want a good device. All the great devices that run Android, all require you to be tied down to a monthly contract. Devices like the Droid, Evo, Dream, myTouch, so on. The only one that you can buy unsubsidized, contract free, is the Nexus One. And that requires you to buy it online, nowhere else (Which is a deterrent for me, since I like to buy my device and use it the same day.) Along with being a market choice, Apple has actually quite a variety of stuff for sale to you.

I have been trying to decide all day which one I was getting. At first I wanted a white, I loved my white 3GS, then switched to the black. I think this just helps me make up my mind. I'll take it as a sign. BLACK FOR ME!

Since you're going to need a skin to actually hold on to this thing, it doesn't really matter what the case color is.
Don't worry, you'll be able to buy a white iPhone 4 on eBay for a mere five thousand dollars.
