White iPhone 4 likely not available at launch

The popular rumor going around right now at the eleventh hour is that AT&T will only be offering the black iPhone 4 models for pre-order tomorrow and at launch, with their white counterparts coming "later this Summer." Considering the fact that the white version of the 4 is quite a bit more distinctive than the 3G / 3GS, that's a bummer if true -- but what we don't know is whether this is strictly limited to AT&T. It's entirely possible that Apple and third-party retailers will be offering the white models, and AT&T's own distribution channel might just be suffering from some sort of buffoonery (that's our hope, anyhow). Lending credence to the rumor is the fact that Japan's SoftBank has already officially announced that it'll only be offering the black models initially -- and when we pressed AT&T on the matter, we got "no comment" in return. It's not looking good, folks.

I'll call BS on this as well. Look at the inconsistent cell padding on the column header "Description". That and the "White will available at a later date". It's not even a well done fake.

@lakersin2025 Me too! I cannot afford to wait (nor should I have to) for the white version. I literally can't live without my iPhone (and I already sold my 3Gs) because I depend on it for my business and time management. It makes no sense. It should be released on the same day, or they shouldn't have even announced the white color until they are ready to sell it.

I was able to pre-order a 32GB white iPhone 4 at Best Buy in Williston, VT this afternoon without any issues. Guaranteed to be available on the 24th.

First of all, this is not just an at&t or authorized dealer omission. Apple is just not selling it yet. We (at&t) are at the mercy of Apple's marketing ploys. I want the white one too, and I had no idea they weren't releasing the white version on the preorder launch until I got to work today (at&t retail) and found out I couldn't order it. All of my iPhones (except the first one of course) have been white... 3g and 3Gs. I love the "available later this summer". I was able to order my husband's black one, but I need it for my business more than he does (he just plays games), so I might have to use his until the white becomes available, which is RIDICULOUS. There is no good reason for this, and it is one part of Apple's scheme/game that really irks me... HELLO??!? You are delaying sales... makes no sense.
