This is one of those things that makes you wonder why it hadn't been done already. Apple's just unleashed an Apple Store application for its iDevices designed to pretty much give you the online Apple Store experience -- but perhaps without the crazy on-again, off-again antics of
this morning. All that's required is a device with
iOS version 3 or above, and you'll be able to read reviews, locate local brick and mortar Stores, check out new and featured products, and -- importantly -- buy or pre-order the latest goodies Steve and co have bestowed upon these lands. Alas, we tried to do just that with the
iPhone 4 and were met with the familiar "we'll be back soon" message. So the app might work, but Apple's store is still struggling.

P.S. - The app looks to be US-only for now. Sorry world, Apple doesn't love you enough.

this is so obvious that apple deserves spanking for not doing it earlier.

Looks to be working for me now, but can't get past the ATT Account check. App crashes while hanging there for a long time. (same issue on the website, can't get past the ATT validation.)
It's not optimizied for the iPad. Go figures.

I've always wondered why Apple didn't make an iPhone optimized version of their website. When you go to Apple.com, you're always zooming in and out and scrolling around to read it on an iPod Touch. That's not very Apple-like.
Although, I guess it's pretty understandable when you realize that this is the same company that brought you the mandatory use of that pig iTunes for your desktop software if you use an iPod.

I know I am not eligible for an upgrade. Still tried to use this app to determine eligibility. App crashed..not once but all the 10 times I tried.

App Store App says that I am eligible for a $199.00 iphone 4G but the website says I have to cough up $399.00. I made a reservations regardless. Let's see what happens
But in the UK, if you have a US account, you can still book genius bar reservations and one to one sessions. So that's pretty nifty.
But what happens if you use the Apple App Store to buy the Apple Store App, then use that Apple Store App to buy the Apple Store App? My guess it it's a recursive process that creates a black hole and sucks the Earth into it. THE END IS NEAR!

The app is ok to buy anything but the pre order iPhone. This crap tells me that their was an "error" in my request and to go to the nearest apple store to get help.
One problem with that big guy, there isn't an apple store on the entire island of puerto Rico!!!
It's about time! I couldn't wait for at least a mobile version of their store but an app is even better.

Couldn't get app to order an iphone 4 for delivery, was able to reserve one for pickup at my local Apple store. Tried to reserve a second one for my wife, now the app is saying "Due to high demand, we are not currently accepting iPhone 4 reservations via the Apple Store app. To pre-order or reserve yours, please visit apple.com/iphone/pre-order". Of course I've been trying that all morning.
I never thought it would be so hard to spend $600!
