It's kinda funny that the droid is already obsolete and it's been out for less then a year... With android fully saturating the vzw market, if someone gets this new droid it'll probably be gone in six months, why buy a phone when it will be completely outdated in the first year of that 2 year contract the consumer signs. Unless your one to pony up the coin to buy non-commital...
@jake5ba
Becoming obsolete quickly is the case with ANY PHONE! Why can't people understand that?! Is it because the iPhone makes iPhone users think it's not becoming obsolete because they only release 1 new one each year with minor changes?
And this isn't a case of the Droid becoming obsolete in the first place. It will still be able to hold it's own for some time to come. It's a solid phone and many will enjoy it for years. It's just that some people like to always have the latest and greatest...
It seems to me (IMHO) that for Verizon and Google it doesn't matter which DROID you buy. Incredible, Eris, DROID, DROID 2, DROID X. It's all but of the same DROID banner and up to the individual phone manufacturers to differentiate the product. My hope is that DROID 2 and X are basically the same phone spec-wise with one being the slider and one being the smaller (un)slider version. I wish the original DROID had a keyboard-less option cause that is what I really wanted (the ERIS), but Verizon made me an offer I could not refuse. Additionally the new product won't matter to me much cause I'm only 6 months into a 2 yr contact. Damn!!!
@johnsry I hope the slider is a little smaller than the droid x. Have you seen that thing?! It makes the EVO look small in comparison. Only the Dell Streak is bigger.
Maybe they'll announce android 2.2?
like Homer would say:
Mmmmmm, Froyoooo !
Android FTMFW
if this comes out fast enough I might drop the EVO just to see what this can do . . . because I'm a giant gadget nerd
@Deathshead
Cydia isn't slow like that anymore and its not really something you use all the time. Now, this damn pre order line is the devil, I'll give you that.
9 generations of Android phones were released just today while I waited in line for this stupid pre order.
Didn't the Droid Incredible just come out 2 months ago, now a new one is coming. This is why I am passing on Droid and Android phones.
Props to Motorola, and Verizon for trying to steal Apples thunder but we all know this won't sell like the iPhone, not even close. The first droid actually sold really well. And on that note I think most VZ customers that would want this are probably under a new rather lengthy contract. May the best phone win!
@XChrisX
There are currently about 8 Million Android phones being sold each quarter now, I don't think these are bad numbers for Google.
@ArticiaS Android overall is a huge success for Google, and the Nexus ONE, EVO, basically any and all HTC phones, heck even the OG Moto Droid was a great phone but this this looks like garbage. It looks like it was put together in a hurry to try and grab evo, and iPhone prospective buyers that are on the fence perhaps.
I wonder if Verizon will have an early early upgrade plan for people that bought a droid incredible but now wants to upgrade.
@neojubei Unlikely, since it's two totally different manufacturers.
So HTC gets to be the star for the first half of the year, Motorola for the second half - at least in the US. Conversely, Motorola releases low-end stuff during the first half, HTC during the second half. HTC releases the reference platform phone (G1, N1). Every other OHA manufacturer else tries to get a word in when they can. At least there's some sense of organization to it.
Motorola - The centre of the app univer....heeey...hold on a second!
I hear the Droid X may include 2.2

Do you think the announcement will include an update of the original Droid to Froyo on the same day (the day before the new iPhone launch)?
Here comes the real competitor to iphone....
@coolngood4u81 what's there to compete? these Android phones are freaking ugly!! there spec might look and sound good, but it all just a bunch of cheap quality hardwares that they used to put these phones together, it will never be like an iphone.
With all these awesome new phones being released the decision of what I get next keeps getting harder and harder
Wonder what announcement will Verizon have that will get people not to buy an iphone 4 on june 24. I doubt they can sway my mind.
@neojubei
that's cuz your brain is even smaller than your dick
They're trying to steal some of the attention the iphone 4 is gonna make when it released June 24th. Nice try FOLLOWERS.....maybe you'll learn something from Apple.
Sorry verizon, Trying to steal Apple's thunder hasn't been very succesfull in the past,think about it, u need a company that's fresh and cool and maybe an extra 200billions bucks to against the beautiful beast that is Apple
@Allstar650
any company is better than getting raped by ATT.. You're ass hole must be very sore by now. I'd recommend upgrading from KY to Astroglide.. Your mother says it's a much smoother entry.
Now why do they always do this...? Just like the EVO launch, this will get overshadowed by the iPhone launch the next day. Stupid.
I heard the iphone had major problems on launch day.. Something with a data connection. Sounds like the norm with ATT... Yes??
this just shows all they want is a bite out of "apple"..none of these developed genuinely good products...they just throw different not so useful stuffs to distract the consumers and get a share out of apple's market....
@12masala
Not so useful... right...
Because everything apple does is "useful"...
I hope they announce a GSM equivalent as well ie. milestone 2!
Why do I smell Droid 2 with FroYo?
@Mehdi90
Even if the Droid 2 does come with Motoblur... in a short amount of time... someoneon XDADevelopers will have the froyo 2.2 upgrade available wouldn't you think?
Now i want the droid 2. TWICE as fast as the Nexus One in benchmarks on Android 2.1. Plus better keyboard than original droid. Looking forward to it!! http://briefmobile.com/droid-2-hands-on-video
Sucks for Verizoners who bought the Incredible.
So Motorola scheduled the new droid annoucement for the 23rd to take away some of the Apple's thunder that will assuredly hit the media on Friday. Nice idea, but now that Apple has moved up the arrival date for pre-orders to Wednesday/Thursday I would not be surprised to see yet another avalanche of iPhone press and very little Droid press.
Those wacky marketers at Apple will most likely be happy while the same folks at Motorola are saying oh crap......
So is engadget going to be there to update us on the stuff they are saying or will there be a live feed?
@thescreensavers im guessing a feed of events/photos.
