T-Mobile celebrates Father's Day with one-day 'every phone is free' event
We'd heard a rumor this was coming, and T-Mobile has now made it a reality -- the carrier will be offering a one-day-only, every phone is free event on June 19th to celebrate Father's Day. Yes, that really means every phone T-Mobile offers (including the brand new myTouch 3G Slide and Garminfone) and the only "catch" is that you have to either switch to a family plan or add a new line to an existing plan -- and, of course, sign a two-year agreement. The deal is only available in T-Mobile stores, however, and the carrier warns that phones will only be available "while supplies last," so you'll likely have to deal with a line if you're looking to get in on the savings.
Mobile Celebrates Dads with Unprecedented, One-Day-Only Every Phone Free Event on Sat., June 19
T-Mobile Declares "No More Ties for Dad" for Father's Day;
New Poll Notes Most Dads Would Trade-in Every Tie in Their Closet for a New Mobile Phone

"No More Ties" - Dads Want Smartphones
T-Mobile's celebration of dads couldn't come at a better time with new T-Mobile survey results showing that more than half of dads received Father's Day gifts they didn't want. In fact, 53% of dads don't recall the gift they received just two years ago.
According to the poll, one in four dads would ban ties as gifts for Father's Day, and the majority of dads (56%) would trade all ties in their closet for a new phone. Nearly three quarters (74%) of dads polled said they would be excited to get a new phone for Dad's Day, and more than half believe their current phone is out of date.
Dads want a gift they'll actually use, with two-thirds admitting they've received a Father's Day gift they've never or hardly ever used. If dads had their way, not only would they ban ties but 19% said they would ban golf balls, 17% would ban coffee mugs, 14% would ban cologne and 11% would ban desk sets.
Dads have one day to get the phone they've really been craving – and he can ensure the rest of the family can join him in staying connected. T-Mobile's free phones Father's Day promotion is one day only, June 19, in every T-Mobile store across the country. Glad I waited! What a great time to drop ATT
@Xtole
there arent any good phones anyway.
@Dr Lisbon
stay with att and get the special one
@Dr Lisbon TMO has the most Android phones, granted they are no EVO, but still. Free Android phone sounds good.
@Xtole
Dude, sorry they are all CRAP! Only phones out right now are Incredible, EVO, iPhone 4 and upcoming Moto Droid X and 2 in July all not on your crappy network.
@Xtole
the only free cell phone is the one that is never activated.
@Xtole
The phones aren't worth a damn if they're on the smallest shittiest 3G network...
@JAYZ1881 It may be a small network but when I had T-Mobile it was the ONLY network that was able to penetrate my house & give me signal. Unfortunately I left to join the iPhone squad.
As far as sh*tty phones go. The HTC HD2 is their best offering & it ISN'T a sh*tty phone by ANY stretch! They also have the BB Bold 9700 which is also a solid option.
@Xtole
if you already have tmo, this is a steal. an additional line is $5, so your "free phone" actually costs a mere $120, used or not.
@Dr Lisbon The HD2 isn't that bad.
Now they just need good phones
If only that deal included the N1...*sigh*
@bravokiloromeo you can get unlocked new nexus ones already around 100 - 130 bucks (tending downwards), people seem to sell them like they don't need them anymore on ebay & co.
@shizzledmg Yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on that one. As of this writing, a Nexus One on eBay is still going for about $400.
problem is they have very few worthy phones
Maybe MyTouch Slide or a BB but no give me a Nexus One-esque phone or no dice!
If the HD2 was still the king I would prolly be one of the many waiting in line to get my free phone.
What American carriers need to do is have this free phone with contract day EVERYDAY like Europe!
@abedinthehouse YES! That's been driving me nuts since I found that out browsing Vodafone and Orange UK's sites
@Android looks Hacked Together
great thing this is for T-Mo, so you can get a Nexus One!
@24hourpartypal
ahh, fuck. N1 isn't included.
Too bad Tmobile has terrible phones. If only they offered the Nexus One.
@Android looks Hacked Together
How about not sounding like a whiny 8 year kid and do something productive for once
@Android looks Hacked Together
get your facts right, please, its embarrasing
Which phone is that on the bottom of the sign? It doesn't look like any of T-mobile's phones...
@bravokiloromeo It is the HTC HD2 w/ Win Mo 6.5
@Android looks Hacked Together. I sense you are the Troll "BecauseIt'sNotGoogle", back again I see?
Really T-Mobile.... really?
If only they could join forces with Sprint and mop up Verizon and AT&T.
@Slvrgun
I had to chuckle when I read that.
It is just too sad for TMO to offer this without what people wants which is the Nexus One. I'll stand in line if they do offer this.
So if my dad wanted to switch to t-mobile for this on a new account, he wouldn't be able to?
Good for T-Mobile and it's customers! If only this could happen more often with more carriers.
Great I'll have $10 a month and (whatever costs the most in USA)
What about the nexus 1? Can you get that for free?
Typed off my EVO 4g Tehe
Sweet!!!! I'll activate 5 lines on the $49.99 Family Plan + $5 each line. Get 5 HTC HD2 w/o data plan and 1 month later cancel them and sell it!!!! you make profit guaranteed!!!!
Well since its only a contracted plan you'll be required to add data on all lines.
@m3nphls
..and the brutal ETF...
@TheF3Z
I already tried doing it on the website. Got to the checkout and 5 lines on the $49.99 plan with $5 each add-on, 5 HD2's and no data plan. It let me go through, so...
Even with the data plan, each phone easily sells unlocked for at least $500, so 5 phones, there's $2k already to play around
@m3nphls
THE FINE PRINT ON THE POSTER PIC UP THERE SAYS MAIL IN REBATES MAY APPLY, WHICH PROBABLY IMPLIES THAT THEY REQUIRE YOU TO PAY SUBSIDIZED PRICING ($200-ISH?) AND WAIT 2 MONTHS FOR REBATE CHECK (WHICH IS ACTUALLY NOT EVEN A CHECK ANYMORE ITS A VISA GIFT CARD THEY SEND) OH FORGOT TO MENTION THAT REBATE APPROVAL REQUIRES YOU TO HAVE THE REQUIRED DATA PLAN ACTIVE ON THE LINE REDEEMING THE REBATE :(
I just added a new line yesterday. Damn you T-Mobile!!!!!!
Why's this filed under "Cameras"?
@Lucas
the HD2 has got a pretty capable camera.
i love my t-mobile service and my moto cliq .. i might think about getting a free phone on a contract ... i am month to month right now with no contract.
The touch slide looks sweet.
upgrades dont count. i just called TMO Bummer!!!1
I've thought about it on and off, but the coverage just kills it for me. I was in a buddy's basement the other day, and picked up my other buddy's N1 on T-Mob. It had like 1 or 2 bars of EDGE. Not really enough to toy around with Flash 10.1. Back to my phone, on that network that everyone hates because of the terrible 3G coverage and reliability (you guessed it, AT&T!), and had full 3G bars. I never drop calls. So the price difference, as well as this promotion, are just not enough to entice me.
"While servers last."
wait a min! are you saying that if you are a TMO and you want to change to a different plan they still wont give this to you? if you change your plan doesn't that mean your signing as a new contract?
@loztxoul Nope it does not include upgrades...and they are not willing to budge on upgrades...
The only upgrsde is if you take a single line to a family plan... they honestly don't care about their current customer base at all.
well i can guess i can switch over to the $5 dolla plan line and add 2 lines currently...
