Amazon job posting hints at 'completely new' video game technology
We love it: Stealth projects! New technology! Amazon has only recently announced that it will be selling Xbox Live Arcade content, and now it seems that the company has its feelers out for a new Senior Product Manager for Digital Video Games. Are you "smart, analytical, and enthusiastic?" Care to develop and launch a "stealth project" that will result in "a completely new type of technology for customers?" We thought you might be. Hit up that source link to get started. For our part, we look forward to seeing what comes of all this.

Interesting, maybe that would kill gamestop completely.
@techlord
Mario hates e-ink.
@techlord
Amazon probably wants a piece of the Steam pie.
@techlord
This is Amazon wanting to take a piece of the Steam pie.
@Vdek
Steam is not a pie, it's a cake. And the cake is a lie.
@tocharius
The cake is not a lie.
First you get baked, then you get the cake.
Resume going in tonight. It's my turn, guys. I'm ready to show Sony what time it is.
It'll be called... The Amazon Blaze.
@skyblaze
This is brilliant. Blaze refers to the massive burning of Amazon rain forests to create temporary fertile farm lands. The hundreds of square miles of fires create a smoke cloud that hangs over the forest. This cloud represents cloud storage! This new game distribution system will most likely have cloud storage just like Steam! ;)
@erik1080
sounds like that plan is full of hot air
*rimshot*
Digital distribution. Gotta be.
@nutbunnies
and possible original content as well. although that might a stretch for amazon to get into the software (games) creation game.
@willowtwf
I was thinking just that, like amazon doing what they've done with mp3's and ebooks but for games (kinda like valve and steam). However I think they'ed acquire a whole company or department, not just a few designers if that was they're intention.
@nutbunnies It's the Phantom. It is finally coming out! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_%28game_system%29
No.
No.
Not really.
Yes!
Holodeck
Are there other types of video games besides digital ones?
@NHAnimator
Analogue ones that you play off a tape.
analogue.
Kindle 3DX?
Something about stealth? Not under engadget-radar!
@Outsider Umm, more like the Engadget readers' radar. Most of the stories on here are thanks to tips from the readers.
@engadgetcomexcludeengadget
Your name didn't work. I still get all the engadget related posts.
Clearly it's going to be a gaming device that plugs directly into your brain and downloads games directly from Amazon.
And you can read books when your eyes are closed.
I've always wanted to play a game where you buy and read ebooks.
"Highly visible strategic initiative..."
"stealth project..."
something's not lining up here...
I'm guessing more like OnLive. Fits well with their cloudsourcing services.
this project doesn't seem so stealth to me considering its on the internet...
wikipedia needs to get in the gaming industry
Amazon getting into digital game distribution sounds great! I could see playing the last mission of an Amazon game then getting an error message: "this content has been removed due to notification by the rights holder".
If they do come out with some great digital distribution system, they're going to be dicks about other countries, I'm still without Amazon MP3 in Canada! Steam on the other hand, now they understand. Not going to switch platforms any time soon there :D
Kindle Pick-a-path.
dont tell me... it's called Segway II
Sorry Amazon. I am not taking calls at the moment.
The real story here is that somebody is hiring!
Maybe Amazon is thinking about making a console. Microsoft and Sony are doing 10 year cycles now so what better time?
I'm guessing a cloud based game service of some sort.. That or maybe the Kindle is getting video games!
I don't think they have the video game technology yet. They are looking for some other way to get into the video game market.
