Another Android tablet spotted? Say it ain't so!
What's this? Oh, just yet another Android tablet spotted in the wild hanging out, looking cool. This one, made by Acorp, is a 5-incher with Android 1.5 (upgradable to 2.2) and we have to say, it definitely looks a lot like the Dell Streak. We also hear that there's going to be a 7-inch version as well, if you need something that's absolutely massive. It's got a 600MHz Rockchip ARM9 processor, micrsSD slot, 3.5mm jack and Wi-Fi, and a resistive touchscreen with stylus. We know that it's going to be available sometime next month, and while we don't have pricing information, we've heard that if you're willing to buy it in bulk (over 1,000 units, friend) they'll be around $88 each. Deal? Video after the break.

Looks like a rebranded Archos to me.
@joelaf
Even junky Archos tablets use capacitive now... Resistive w/ stylus ftl

Or PSP Touch?
Looks kinda boring to me
Haha just like the iPhone. Let the wanna be clone roll out begin. I love how my by beloved Apple gets the ball rolling on something new that takes off. And everyone wants a piece of the pie.
@Macboy15
considering that 1. tablets have been out for like a decade now. 2. that there were tablets at ces before apple even announced the ipad. and 3. win7 has touch enhancements built in for tablets. how exactly did apple get the tablet ball rolling?
@Macboy15
err...
youre aware your beloved apple didnt 'get the ball rolling'?
either way, this is an android tablet, not a phone
@armodon
Um...by the fact that people are actually *buying* tablets now that the iPad is out? Before, tablets were cobbled-together failures that didn't sell outside of niche circles.
@armodon
Apple got the "ball rolling" by selling them like hotcakes to consumers or hadn't you heard about that. Also, by getting the mobile advertising industry to think that there may be some money to be made in that particular form factor. Or how about the iPad reaching the billion dollar mark in sales faster than any tablet ever made.
If Apple sells only 7 million iPads this year, it will be the most any company ever sold in tablets in one year and maybe even two. Is that enough a "ball rolling" for you? Better step aside lest you be hit with a 800-ton ball rolling over you.
@MosesusedaniPad
...yes. Apple took a real PC and castrated it with hardware that's about 10 years behind the times and then closed down the device so it's not so easy for the consumer n00bs to notice this fact. Then they slashed the price on the whole thing.
...so it's like cheap crap that's been well polished.
Oh yeah. That's something to brag about.
@MosesusedaniPad
i dont think it has entirely to do with apple, if anything at all. if anything it you have to blame tablet sales on the fact that they're cheaper to manufacture now as opposed to ten years ago. is the general public going to flock towards a tablet that $1500 or one the $500. tablets are like the laptops before them. they didnt reach mass appeal until they went down to a price your average consumer could afford
@armodon Seriously? If you can't admit that the iPad "got the ball rollin" you're either delusional, or Steve Ballmer.
@Macboy15 I love it, because now I don't have to buy an Apple product and can instead get some Android tablet equivalent that does everything the iPad does at a cheaper price. I'm sure all the other hardware manufacturers are also happy for Apple to do all their R&D spending for them. Cheers, Apple! ;)
@UnclePhil
or its possible that i could be neither? if memory serves after the initial convertible tablet/laptop craze died down 10 yrs ago, it wasnt until win7 was released that people started showing interest again. then the courier concept vid released and people went nuts. this was all before anyone even heard of the ipad. the main reason the ipad is doing so well is because of the timing. it was the first tablet out of the gate. probably because it had the least amount of r&d put into it.
@armodon
I agree with you, but
"probably because it had the least amount of r&d put into it."
I won't go that far. If you think Apple half-assed the iPad, you're dead wrong. I don't want one, but it is a solid device.
@MosesusedaniPad The only reason I see Apple outselling other tablets with their iPad is related more to the fact that any "Apple Tool" would buy anything that they dish out... If Apple came out with the iCrapper for your toliet, I am sure it would be huge success too because its an Apple!
@BigJayDogg3
not saying its poorly built or anything like that. no doubt its a quality device. but theres a reason so many think its just a scaled up ipod/iphone. what about the r&d comment is that apple really didnt have to build the ipad from the ground up. they just made a preexisting device bigger, and recycled its os
Android has officially become the new wince for kirfers
upgrade to 2.2 (in the future). You promise? :|
@One Love "in the future right?" "nono, the past."
LOL group buy!!!!
Seriously though, if I could get my hands on one for something reasonably close to the wholesale price, I'd buy it.
The Good: Cheap Android tablet upgradeable to 2.2
The Bad: KIRFy looking home button
The Ugly: The super annoying interview.
Keep shoveling out the Android shit and devaluing that name. Soon Android will be synonymous with 'cheap, wanna-be shit'.
@ebon
wanna be to what though?
its hard to be a wanna be when your the leader of tech, android has brought most of the amazing things you see on phones today about
@HoldenMccrotch
Such as?
I'll wait here.
@HoldenMccrotch
Actually, I did think of one thing that Android is responsible for; the buy-one-get-one-free Smartphone deal. So you were right, my bad.
@ebon
say hey to multitasking on your wait :)
hey, maybe your phone has an awesome camera and ways to edit it?
HD video maybe?
@ebon Too late. Unfortunately.
Charbax strikes again!
There's always a 2.1/2.2 upgrade coming if that question is asked. It'll never happen on a device like this. I'm sure it's on the way from Archos as well, just ask Charbox;)
I love hit powered itself off working hard trying to play Youtube on 1/4 of the screen.
@Waltah
hit=how=typing fail.
That ain't no tablet. It looks just like another oversized Android smartphone.
Too small...we really need a ron jeremy sized tablet imho.
5" is a bit too tiny :P
Is there a way to actually downrank a product into oblivion?
Ofcourse another Android tablet.
So thats what 0 on the market eh? Wow our prayers are being answered
I'll log this under,
Do. Not. Care.
Android 1.5 is a joke at this point. Either start with 2.1 or it's a dealbreaker.
Resistive Screen in an age of Capacitive is a negative. But I guess we should be grateful for the stylus :-/
What's the word on codec support? Archos 5 Android has that going for it.
the guy he was talking to didn't seem that interested at all. But would you? Android on that tablet format is nothing more than a web browser and hype!
@pspitts
i think its more of a linguistic problem...
maybe that he's taiwanese and isnt 100% perfect in english getting asked fast paced questions in english?
so by my having the archos 5 6 months prior to the tampad launch exactly how did apple get the ball rolling? archos has archos 9 that brought win7 to the game about a year ago. regardless of their quality it is archos and other small fry who are paving the road for tablets. same goes for cell phones, the majority of cell phone tech is tested by lab smaller divisions in asia like asus. much of the product is released in asia years before the big companies jump on it...apple included.
Thought it was PSP play at first glance!
What is the point?
Just FYI those components cost usually $150 "bare" as a normal citizen.
These devices are therefore rather cheap, one could buy it to hack something on top.
I hate defauly chargers of these devices. Just bought http://www.gadgetine.com/universal-asus-eeepc-netbook-charger-427.html - great gadget!
What is this? The 100th android copy-cat device? Jeeez, enough already. Jeeez...
@cornelp Copycat of what?
Oh my god!This is awesome!!
Where can I buy this product?
what is a micrsSD?
Android 1.5? Resistive touch screen? Why don't you just do a story about a Windows XP laptop with a Pentium 4 processor.
NOBODY in their right mind will buy junk like the tablet featured in your story. If you can find an undiscovered capacitive touch-screen tablet running Android 2.2 and Flash 10.1, THAT might be worth reading.
