iTunes 9.2 is out, ready to hook up with your iPhone 4
It looks like iTunes 9.2 has just hit the Software Update screens of computers across the land, and if you've got an iPhone 4 on order, this is one you'll want to get around to installing in the next few days -- it's the only way you'll be able to sync (actually, you'll want it if you're using iOS 4 on any manner of iPhone). Major features include iBooks support on the iPhone and iPod touch, PDF syncing through iBooks, home screen folder organization, and "faster backups" with iOS 4-equipped devices -- a promising sign for anyone troubled by long sync times. Follow the break for Apple's full rundown.
iTunes 9.2 comes with several new features and improvements, including:
• Sync with iPhone 4 to enjoy your favorite music, movies, TV shows, books and more on-the-go
• Sync and read books with iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4 and iBooks 1.1
• Organize and sync PDF documents as books. Read PDFs with iBooks 1.1 on iPad and any iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4
• Organize your apps on your iOS 4 home screens into folders using iTunes
• Faster back-ups while syncing an iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4
• Album artwork improvements make artwork appear more quickly when exploring your library

Well, the download has crapped out on me twice thus far on the old XP Desktop. Probably that AT & T verification!...
Peace,
-OnTheDL.
I love a good build-up...
OS X updates...iTunes today...iOS 4 Monday and new iPhone sexiness at my door next Thursday
Weird... I had to do a manual "check for updates" for it to tell me 9.2 was available.
I don't believe you. I have never EVER seen a mac not load iTunes in a split second. As i said, my mac (with a 50gb) library loads in a flash. Something is wrong with your computer and you need to fix it. I am using my mac right now, i will quit (CMD+Q) iTunes....now i will open...1. Done.
just loaded the GM on my 3gs, works flawless. just download it, shift click check for updates, easy peasy
It's funny, I have the "beta" 9.2 installed on OS X, yet System Update tells me there aren't any updates. Amazing!
Looking forward to the sync time being reduced. It's a pain on my 2G iPhone.
mine doesnt backup my iphone.can anyone help?
@Eli Haj
Don't think so, just saw a tweet saying that if you plan to use the Spirit JB, do not upgrade to 9.2!! Pwnage Tool & redsnow users should be okay.
@Eli Haj It does. I tested it myself, I got Spirit jailbreak on 3.1.3 8GB 2nd Gen iPod Touch.
I wonder if this will improve the wireless sync as well?
YAY now we can get iOS4 on our 3G's and 3GS's!!!
thts just apples way to try divert attention from yesterdays debacle
@Sepirioth
No... no it's not.
iPhone 4 ?!?! What about supporting my HTC EVO 4G? Where's the love?
iTunes on Windows is still one of the slowest programs ever written. Hire some Windows developers Apple and stop using code writing monkeys.
@everyone...
For the record, on my admittedly new and pretty fast MacBook Pro, iTunes, when clicked on, takes about 1.5 seconds to load and be useable straight off the bat...
@KopparbergDave and on my almost 3y/o white mb running on 10.6 and ~3gb ram.. 2.5secs. I love me some apple.
wow.. Coverflow lag is really gone. I feel like itunes has been getting snappier over the past year. I remember a couple years ago it was really slow but now it's pretty smooth and fast.
wtf?! THIS NEW UPDATE SAYS THAT THE APPLE MOBILE DEVICE SERVICE IS TURNED OFF AND I TRYED TURNING IT ON AND IT DOESN'T WORK!! PLEASE HELP
Probably worth mentioning that iTunes 9.2 kills the ability to do the Spirit jailbreak. Not that it would work on iOS4 or iPhone4 but for people who may want to use the same machine to run Spirit on 3G, 3G[S] or iPads.
Downloading the fat hog right now.
I can see from the comments that they didn't fix it. Bummer.
Side note: HP printers has some 100MB downloads for their software too, but that's to be expected from the granddaddy of bloat.
tried to update to IOS4 GM but there saying my Iphone is not compatable got 9.2 itunes now, what gives? anybody else having this trouble
So many people stating it runs bad on top of the line comps, so many other stating it runs great on old craptastic puters...what is it? Is it randomly screwed, is that it?
i'm not seeing any ibooks for my iOS 4 itouch
@Pwnage Same here. I guess it is going to be an App Store download like it was for the iPad. ? ? ?
@Pwnage It's not out for iPhone or iTouch yet.
Great! NOW that iOS4 Gold master can finally be of some use!
I heard Apple only has pre-orders for 5% of the iPhone base (10MM+ phones) in the U.S. That's what you call trouble. Those pre-orders are made up of existing iPhone customers upgrading, no new AT&T customers. AT&T's churn over the next few months will be horrible.
No wonder Jobs is losing share to Android. Oh well, the mall chicks and soccer moms will still buy them. Congrats!
@Kelly S Yeah! And iTunes 9.2 something!
@Kelly S
well iPhone is close to beating Nokia in Australia with a massive market share.
I believe android was at 2%.
Either way, what you said made no sense and if you think Android will beat iPhone think again...especially with all the free press that Apple receives.
P.S...i aint no fanboi!
good for all the windows people who can finally back up and sync with iOS4. It didn't come up in my software update because I have the beta of 7.2, and without finding out from engadget i probably would have had the beta on for ages without realising. cheers!
Still won't let me update to OS4 on my 3G. Keeps kicking off whenever it gets to the authorizing on Apple Server step.
is anyone else getting sick of these 100 plus MB downloads EVERYTIME apple makes an update?
why can't they just give a meg or two update?
With iTunes 9.2 you can now install iOS 4 GM! Yay, having a little fun early!
I just got a new laptop about 6 months ago with windows 7 on it and iTunes runs faster than it ever has. It also loads way faster than it ever did...
When Chuck Norris exercises, the machine gets stronger.
I wonder if they'll ever fix or remove the "gapless playback" check that everyone's complaining about, when adding music. That sh!t always makes it unresponsive..
I got iOS 4 working on my iPod Touch 3rd Gen, woo!
Does this mean that we can now install iOS 4 GM on windows?
Let's bash Apple in anyway possible. Isn't that what we are here for???
Hmmm, the first sync after this update is reloading 1400+ songs on my iPhone 3G. There goes an hour of my life
I just fired it up on Windows 7 and it's amazingly fast. There's not a hint of sluggishness of the previous versions left. I'd say it's now as fast as its OS X counterpart.
