New Xbox 360 loses ability to flash a red ring, can still probably die a fiery death
It's a color we know so well, but it looks like Microsoft would like to dissociate itself from its RROD heritage, or perhaps just ran out of red LEDs: the new Xbox 360 only has a green ring around its power button, so even if you wrap the thing in a blanket and set it on fire, it won't be flashing red to tell you how it feels. This was unearthed in a spec sheet that Joystiq received from a tipster, along with all the other fancy specs you can see above. Overall the console is 17% smaller, which really goes to show that Microsoft was much more interested in noise and heat reduction than sliding the new 360 into a smaller crevice of your home entertainment center.

Who can tell me that new XBOX will use blu-ray or HD-DVD ?
@littlea
Marketing: We have solve the RROD issue that has pledge our system
Manufactoring: We save one cent in the process
Customer Service: There a new issue, the GROD.
PS 3 went from glossy to matte, from capacitive to "normal" buttons...
XBOX goes the other way round.
One makes the console better looking the other one "cheaps it down" as much as possible...
Um according to the support it does have a red light. ITs just the in the center instead. http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/hardware/console/xbox360s/troubleshooting.aspx
No word on IR port? That'd be a real bummer if my media remote wouldn't work with this...
@GldRush98 My logitech remote works on my new 360... havent tried the old xbox remote
This article is misleading. While it wont give you an RROD, you will see a red light in the event of a failure. And as far as Joystiq's "unearthed" sheet from a tipster... Try doing a bing search next time and you will find this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2122879
All of the answers are there people
Ring of Light
The Ring of Light can only display Green lights
However the center Power Light can display a flashing red light to indicate insufficient ventilation, or a solid red light indicating the console may require service
Bind Button + IR Receiver
The console bind / Connect button and IR Receiver for infrared remotes have been combined into a single button.
@Trailmixxx
this is TRUE ... according to my instruction manual for the new 360 there is a "red ring" feature.
Flashing red light indicates overheating
Solid red will either provide on-screen instructions to troubleshoot or in the event that nothing appears on screen, this means that your unit needs to be serviced (ie RLOD ... red light of death)
I'd also like to note that in a previous engadget article, it stated that there was no longer an external power supply and that it seemed that the power supply was built in. This is NOT true. There is still an external power supply, however, it is smaller than the old one. (About 25% smaller).
The memory on both units is 512MB. Doesn't Microsoft know the difference between hard disk space and memory?
Does anyone know what the "Kinect Port" is? Does this mean the Kinect product will not with with the original Xbox 360s?
@pbusardo Unless they come up with an adapter for the original xbox 360s, i would assume that you need to upgrade to the new 360 to get kinect working
@pbusardo
It allows Kinect to draw power from the Xbox, if using with an original Xbox Kinect will need a separate power connection.
