Orange and O2 announce UK iPhone 4 pricing
UK carrier Orange has already confirmed that it'll be joining in on the iPhone 4 party on June 24th, and it's just now revealed exactly how much the phone will cost you depending on the service you choose. As with the 3GS, the iPhone 4 is available on both monthly or pay-as-you-go plans, and actually starts as low as free for a 16GB iPhone 4 on the highest monthly plan (£75 per month) and goes all the way up to £570 (or $845) for an off-contract 32GB iPhone 4 on a pay-as-you-go plan. There's literally no less than twenty different price points in all, however, so be sure to hit up the source link below to see exactly what's available before you go line up.
Update: Hey, O2 has followed suit. Imagine that!

About time!
@Latin69
I've been on the phone with 3 -
apparently their price plans will be up soon, we can expect them to be "very competitive" and "3 in the UK are working very closely with Apple in California" (They seemed very keen to stress these different locations, maybe they think other networks are incapable of transatlantic calling?)
They also told me "all departments are working on [the iPhone 4]" - which sounds like classic exaggeration, but I get the point.
@FORDY
I hope Vodafone's tariff is real as it seemed better.
I'm holding out for the best offer, I'm on a 3G and not going rush into buying this time around.
Picking one up should be a lot easier after 24th June.
@Latin69
Unlimited* data
* Separate Fair Usage policies of 750MB / month
WTF...false advertising much?
@tklr08
I know what you mean. But at least they give a higher allowance than o2. Looks like I'll be cancelling my contract with o2 for certain.
@tklr08 Lol internally as an orange employee it says doesn't charge customers for going
over so it is unlimited unike voda and o2
@Latin69 Ha ha those prices are sky high...enjoy fanboys
@Latin69
Apple should halt a majority or their shipments to other countries in order fill the huge back log of orders here in the states. I don't know why they decided to launch in other countries the same day as the US. Most people here will be lucky if they can have a chance of owning one by August.
@Latin69
Early buyers always pay top price. Wait a few days after the release and check eBay for better deals. Waiting.Waiting........look everything you need to know about the iPhone 4.

nice price
@roba3000 Are you crazy? Those prices are absolutely ridiculous.
Dear ATT
Free please
Kthxbia, America
@DefPoet £75 per month though...
@Cydoniac Though I still think about £80 something is pretty good for £35 a month..
I'm hoping that o2 do the same price.. as thats who I'm going with
These plans are so much better than AT&T...
@jmaine Though we have to put up with buying everything with the same cost, but with a £ instead of a $ usually (Or with a -20 amount taken off the price so it doesn't look like we're totally getting shafted)
*sadface*
@jmaine not really. do the conversion to dollars. its about the same.
It may be capped, but at least they have 12 months free Internet on PAYG. I'm going with them so far.
im confused it says unlimited data but then Separate Fair Usage policies of 750MB / month apply to both BT Openzone WiFi and Mobile Internet Browsing. can someone tell me what that means?
@meh88 You and the rest of the world my friend.
@meh88
It means that unlimited is limited.
I F**KING hate with a passion companies that do this, it is NOT unlimited if you have a limit on it.
Funny thing is you can say anything you want on your own website and get away with it.
@LordBrian Until the ASA takes notice, this practice will continue.
@meh88
Being a bit of snail, can someone explain. If I am just browsing the web, opening and closing web pages does this consist of any of the 250MB if I buy the phone as Pay as you go or is it only if I download stuff? And how does streaming work i.e. using the phone as as a Sat Nav? Does this use up the specified amount too?
Thanks.
@meh88 The way I read it, it's capped at 750mb using their Wi Fi hotspots, but unlimited using 3G etc.
@meh88 Here it is:
"Inclusive Mobile Internet. Mobile internet browsing is for use within the UK only. Any use outside the UK will be charged at the relevant international rates. Mobile Internet browsing does not include event charges such as for ringtones or games (transport costs for these events are included). Fair Usage policy of 750MB applies. Usage above this amount will constitute abuse and Orange may monitor usage, apply Network protection controls which may result in reduced speed of transmission and/or withdraw the Offer from your account if the fair usage policy is abused. Not to be used for other activities (e.g. using your handset as a modem, non-Orange internet based streaming services, voice or video over the internet, instant messaging, peer to peer file sharing, non-Orange internet based video). Should such use be detected notice may be given and Network protection controls applied to all services which Orange does not believe constitutes mobile browsing. This may result in reduced speed of transmission, suspension of data browsing services and/or suspension of your account."
So - if you use last.fm, watch Youtube videos, use Skype, use any instant messenger or anything else they don't like, they have the right to disconnect you from the mobile Internet and still charge you the full rate. And that even before you go over 750 mb/mo.
The mobile market in the UK is not as crappy as the USA, but it is pretty close.
@meh88
It means 750mb over and 750mb over Hotspot, which is a joke. You would be mad to buy from Orange.
3 and Tmobile will offer the best data deals, for example Tmobile offer 1gb with the base plan and you can upgrade to 3gb and 10gb plans, all with unlimited use off peak and unlimited hotspot.
oh and the larger data plans allow tethering.
@thechippy Your data allowance applies to anything you download on the phone; web pages, email, you tube etc. If you buy things from orange such as ringtones/games/etc downloading them will no doubt apply to your allowance also.
The satnav situation is depndent on what satnav app you use. Some like TomTom store maps locally on the phone, so only use the data connection to get things like traffic updates. Other satnav solutions such as google maps, download the map data as needed and using satellite or streetview will soon swallow up a lot of data.

I like the way they have advertised unlimited 3G internet... Until you look at the small print that is. 750 MB fair use policy.
Why not just tell it like it is Orange?
Just a question.. you are writing something new every time the iPhone gets a price somewhere? Or am I seeing wrong EVERYDAY!?!?!?!??!!
@Carnival Given that 600k got reserved (Just in the US), it shows alot of people are interested and want to knowm
The sexy sexy people at engadget setup /exclude/apple (or any tag for that matter) for people who get sick of reading certian subjects.
Maybe you'd like to bookmark it :)
Forget att and these crazzy high demands, im driving to canada june 24th
I'm loving how their 'unlimited' data has a fair usage policy limiting it to 750MB a month...
I pay about $70 a month for 450 mins and unlimited data.. why do i keep hearing that the rest of the world always has it so much better than the americans?
@nsfw
Well, i dont have a Iphone 4, but i bought the 3Gs when it arrived from Telia (Scandinavian telecom provider).
I pay 8$(69kr) a month for unlimited 3G HSPDA+ 10.2mbit/s (even tough Iphone is limited to 7.2 i think). So for us atleast here in Scandinavia it´s really cheap to have 3G (probobly because of Ericsson and Nokia).
I went into an O2 store today and showed the guys there the Engadget leaked Vodafone price plans. They said that O2 were waiting for everyone else to declare their prices first.
@Liamster
The people in the O2 shops don't know shit.
Was in there today buying a Desire and was trying to explain to one of them that the iPhone 4 used micro-sim... They insisted that I was thinking of the iPad >.
@JammySTB The guy in the o2 store where I lived actually told me about 5 days before WWDC, that "the iphone 4 leak isin't real, we got an email".
My response was "So, you think someone went to the bother of making bootable hardware with an apple a4 processor, just for a hoax?"
He shrugged.
I walked out.
Also, this was one of the same set of staff who didn't know what Android was 2 weeks before they got android handsets in. Dipshits.
I hope spain gets this orange love, atm a second hand 16gb 3gs costs €650
If you consider the leaked Vodafone pricing, Orange is turning out to be even more expensive on the contract.
is their iPhone on PAYG locked?
@tivael I'd be very surprised if it's not.
For the extra £20, go to Apple store and get an unlocked model.
no contract >>>
If it helps, I am updating my spreadsheet online for prices on all UK carriers: http://bit.ly/bxbxZV
@ro957 Enough with the request bombardment. The link is now updated for anyone to view.
You do know that it's not just a £20 or £30 on pay as you go but it is techniclay more than 140 because in the apple store you donot get a micro sim which yu will have to PURCHASE from a network and also yu get one year free Internet and wifi which is every expensive as a bolt on
for this reason today I cancalled my apple order for the 16gb black for 499 delivery on 24th for one from o2 when they decide to start pre ordering them or I will go to my local carphonewharehouse
@Habiba29 Or get a regular sim and trim it, problem solved
@10nisman94 na I want a properly fitting iPhone sim
@Habiba29
Then cut it properly.
I might just sell my 3gs and put that money towards a 4g i cant stand these 18/24 month contracts I remember the good old 12month contract days
@Original Nosebleed
Only being locked in for a year.... Those were the days! +1
