Looks like they're testing in the SF Bay Area too. A RadioShack salesman was telling me that 4G coverage would go on and off all the time, according to the 4G icon on the Sprint Overdrive unit they had on display.
Sprint (technically CLEAR) has had active 4G coverage in the bay area for over a year now, it's just been restricted to developers (and also FREE!). You can see the "secret" coverage map here: http://developer.clear.com/innovation
For those looking for a device strictly for reading, the new Kobo is a nice little option. It's small enough to slip into a pocket, can do more with a PDF than the competition, and at $129, it's $10 cheaper than both the Nook and Kindle WiFi.
