Check out our Dell Streak hub!
This one's been around quite a long time, but we've finally managed to cobble together just about all the knowledge we could dig up about the Dell Streak into one delicious, beautiful hub. Make sure you check it out.

I want this badly on T-Mobile. And I know the FCC happily proved its existence to be. Soon, I hope.
BUT.. I would love to disable this UI customization and just run stock Android 2.1/2.2. Roto-Rooter, please.
@POZ
I am going crazy waiting for this to come out...
@POZ
Its worth waiting for - Streak is a fantastic piece of kit. It does everything I could wish for - no longer do I have a separate phone, MP3 player, GPS, gaming device, digitcal camera - it does them all, and extremely well. It does all it's jobs brilliantly, well worth investing in!
We in the UK know how it feels to wait ages for stuff our cousins across the pond already have, and its torture! So you have our sympathy. :)
@maty - damn right its worth waiting for! I feel like freaking the hell out when I see this. I hope its released before the end of the summer, really. For us all. I am going to use it with a BT headset for calls, because I am mostly data. I feel like calling Mike Dell up and choking the answer out of him! :)
@POZ I just want to know why there isn't a hub for the Galaxy S which is, arguably, the second most hyped as-yet-unreleased phone. I don't care too much about this because I have been keeping up with the news of the S for a long time now, but for someone just tuning in, a hub would make it pretty easy to sift through the articles.
@NikAmi - I would like a hub for the Galaxy S. That is my favorite phone under 5 inches of screen! The screen itself is SUN bright and awesome saturation according to the videos out there. I want the biggest, baddest android out there. I am an android polygamist when it comes to cellphones. Oh... I think I just made up a new word for obsessed smartphone users who cheat on their other cellphones with newer models. hlyfckngsht
@Plazmic Flame I gave up on that. When it first comes out, people always overpay anyway. I got myself another cheap smartphone for now, and then in six months I'll upgrade to this at hopefully great discount and with a firmware upgrade to address any issues early adopters encountered. =)
@POZ
Same here... It better get released with T-mobile or I will be pissed waiting so long!
i brought this the day this came outthen i rooted couple of days after paul at modaco done the root .now im waiting to see who gets to froyo out first dell or the other sites
As a tablet, good idea, as a phone and a tablet? You can't have your cake and eat it too
@Dwplay11 - My plan is to simply use a BT handset (only) for the calls. I am mostly a data person, I have learned over the years. I hear your point, though. This is definitely a specialty device. I imagien Dell knows this, and made amends with the i3 thing.
@Dwplay11
I agree, you HAVE to use Bluetooth with this, or take the risk of looking like a giant douche bag with a board up to your ear, lol.
Remember when we had to carry cell phones in bags 20 years ago? Can we please not go back to that lol.
@Gooch818 I'm excited about this...maybe i'll still look like a giant douche holding a board to my ear, but this is truely the first phone that's normal sized for big people (since brick phones anyhow). I'm not even huge, it's just that normal phones are made for girls and small foreign men. It's hard to type on tic-tac sized keys when you have nickel-sized fingerprints.
We'll see, maybe I'll be shamed into pocketing it and going handsfree.
@Dwplay11 Thats exactly the thing.
Its asinine to have to carry around two devices with mobile class hardware to do roughly the same thing. If its a pocketable slate, it HAS to do both or = fail.
The Streak fits in your pocket, and you CAN make phone calls holding it up to your head, but in my car I just use the bluetooth feature of my radio to play it through my speakers, and on the go I just use my headset anyway as its more convenient and probably less cancer inducing.... although now that I think about it, I'm probably just giving myself brain cancer from the headset and testicular cancer from the phone. Yay. :D
@PapaPump Reminds me of Zoolander with the girlish micro-phone, hah!

Dammit.. 5 minutes after the breaking news of the new Samsung phone that i was for sure going to get, you guys post this and instantly create confusion again on what device i want more.. Thanks....
Got to play with a Streak twice, and it is the ideal combination of an iPad (speed, screen brightness, responsiveness) and a regular Android handset. For me, the perfect form factor. Fits in your pockets (front and jacket) and the 5" display is a very similar size to a paperback book - unlike the iPad which in my view is too heavy and large for long term readadge.
@Oflife And what I love is that instead of having to pay for a dataplan for both and carry both, this still fits in your pocket and doesn't have the huge redundancy factor.
Hubbalicious.
It's hot hot!
i wanted this soo badly but snapdragon is holding me off.. although the normal processing is good, it looks like the GPU is not great? is that true?
@rakeshin
Nope, GPS on this thing is truly amazing!
You get the normal google maps overlay - sure, but you can add on satelite photos on top so you can see exactly the raod ahead - along with ATMs, parking, traffic updates - lots to see!
It also does Text-To-Speech on road names (which is useful in the UK), says, for example "in 500 yards turn left on to Vineyard Road" -so you know exactly the road to go on.
As a bonus, it'll do EU and US roads and information.
I've found the GPS alone justifies the price of this thing. I love my Streak :).
Get it on unlimited data though - GPS satellite and other updates will eat through your data!
@maty
not GPS.. GPU. graphics processing unit
@rakeshin - this would be sick with a Tegra2. I would slap myself off the back porch.
@POZ Cool expression; your invention? To me all this GPU concern is all just worrying over a hill of bananas.
ok that's it... DroidX / 2, Captivate... damn it i'm gonna hold out for this... damnit Dell with your excellent form factor that no can define
@izzykareem
Which one is better? Dell streak or Droid X?
@jackchai to be honest, the Droid X may be "better" but i don't know how i can pass up the 5in screen with a promise to be on froyo before years end AND it's already rooted.
and i think, just a hunch, but its really a 720p screen and that's not a typo on the droid x splash page.
so Droid X or Dell Sreak? I CANNOT DECIDE!!! SOMEBODY HELPS ME!
@jackchai droid x, at least that one has an updated version of android on it.
Give it a slide-out portrait keyboard and bring it to Verizon!
Basically this + the Dell Lightning would be my dream.
Dell Streak only with Froyo upgrade.
The Galaxy S is nice but it doesn't have camera flash and Samsung support/upgrade path stinks.
I'm going to have one of these, and as soon as the hackers give it the same treatment that Nokia got yesterday (Bluetooth mouse and keyboard), and I'm going to hook it to an external display and use it as my laptop replacement.
Oh yes, It will be mine
Used this for 10mins in O2 shop (it was clamped down so hard it was damaging the screen and cracking the case) and thought to myself "I wonder how good engadget looks on this thing"? Er it doesnt load???
This site has too many redirects? Couldnt get it to load for love nor money......I dont know enough about Android to get round this and it is putting me off slightly. Great screen though and its very fast.
If I had to decide between the streak and the iPhone 4, I choose the streak hands down. Once you surf the web on that 5" screen you can't go back!
@hated one
well Im loving the ipad, dont use my laptop for surfing now. Would love the Streak for surfing when out and about and at work - Im close to a purchase and wouldnt sell my ipad. There is a place for both devices.
Do we have a Dell Lightning hub in the works? That is the only phone that matters right now :D
@hated one An iPad is basically an iPhone with a bigger screen and battery, minus the camera and calling and a few other features.
Even though the hardware that "makes it go" is virtually identical and redundant, the iPhone has a very small screen and the iPad doesn't have enough functionality and isn't pocketable, so you have to double-up.
The nice thing about the Streak is that its bigger but still fits in your pocket, and you don't have the hardware redundancy issue. You just click your bluetooth earpiece or wireless answer when in your car for phone, and bust it out when you need tablet functionality. Makes a lot more sense IMO.
Still don't like that name. Can't help but think of "accidents."
@HektikLyfe
Wouldn't that be the Dell Skidmark?
@Spiny Norman Might as well be. XD Or the Dell Bareback.
Everything electronic I own is almost all dell. Cant wait to get a dell phone with WP7 on it.
Here's another user, since day one. Two weeks, now, I've had it. The old-ish (all of 8 months old?) OS at least means it's nice and stable, and BOY is it fast. Great camera, great choice of browsers, just waiting for Flash in the September update and I'm set. I have a regular, much cheaper phone with a 3.2" screen and even going back to that, which 2 years ago was pretty big... na-aa.
The size is great. Under 10mm and weighs a few coins' worth more than the gold standard, the iPhone (all hail). Goes into any trouser pocket unless you're at pre-school. Not *remotely* surprising to hear most of the negative commentary coming from people who've never used one, seen one, played with one, made a call on one...
I can't decide on what to get. At first i wanted the Xperia X10 but now its either this or the samsung Captivate. I also forgot about the Lightning and thunder. can someone refresh me on those?
@Tushar1
The Dell Lighting is going to be the WP7 device:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/21/dell-lightning-the-ultimate-windows-phone-7-device-leaks-out/
The Dell Thunder is going to be the Android device:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/21/dell-thunder-explodes-android-with-4-1-inch-oled-screen-promise/
The UK usually gets stuff first actually except apple stuff
i just can't justify a phone that huge. I thought the droid x was huge already, look at this gargantuous beast! It should be called the Kraken.
I'll pass on this even if it comes to AT&T no thanks. too big to make calls. Only good to web browse.
What is it coming to in the USA? Tmo Vzn or ??
