DualShock can be used in lieu of Navigation Controller
Remember that rumor a couple years back of PS3 motion control gaming being based around a pull-apart DualShock 3? Well, perhaps it wasn't such a wild idea after all. No DualShock 3s have been harmed in the making of Move, but Joystiq has just confirmed that you can actually use the existing controller for Move gaming instead of springing for the Navigation Controller if you'd like. Obviously, you'll be one-handing the DualShock, not quite as comfortable as the Move's tiny, dedicated quasi-nunchuck, but it saves you $30 for your hassle. You'll only have access to the d-pad or four face buttons, depending on which side you choose, but interestingly, the Nav Controller's X and O buttons are redundant with the full Move wand, so hopefully this won't impact gameplay too greatly.

for people who dont like the dildo.
Why am I not so shocked? Nice move Sony.
@thisisit
The nav controller can be replaced by the dualshock controllers not the Move (the one with the glowing ball) which others are so fond of calling it the dildo.
@thisisit i thought that the main wand thing was the... oh never mind
@thisisit No, this is to replace the navigation controller (similar to wii nunchuk), not the main move controller.
@tosvus
So the Navagation (nunchuck) thing is $30
How much is just one Move controller going to be?
I already have a PS3 Eye.
@BMills
I found it.
Its $50
@tarugokomaraki
Engadget,
Weren't you at last year's E3 when Sony Said this themselves?? Good journalism!!!
@thisisit which you need because your picture is hideous
Thats good but move is much cooler in my opnion.
So you have to have the Move in one hand, and the Dualshock controller in the other?
@ma4dk
It seems like very few Move-capable games are using both the Move controller and the Navigation controller. But for those that take advantage/disadvantage of the dual-controller approach, you will have the option of using a DualShock instead of springing the $30 for the Navigation controller. The DualShock will NOT replace the Move (ball) controller.
I use the DualShock for HVB and hold it an entirely different way than other games. It's not too tough, but the Nav controller certainly looks like a better option.
@ma4dk
i'm thinking you'll have to by the navigator realistically.
dont see ergonomics of holding a full controller being good for move games.
@Killing Time
had i an edit feature i'd change "by" to "buy."
@Killing Time Although, its not hard to hold a DS3 with one hand. All you would need is the amount they show in the image, so an index finger and a thumb is all you need to reach everything. Other than "X" and "O", that's all the Nav controller provides.
pretend the dual shocks are a pair of knuckle dusters :)
oh man, fighting games on the move will just have become a lot more fun
nah i will buy the navigaton controller it will be awkward to use the duel shock controller
@cleo2525
Which is thirty bucks. It's all adding up; a proper Move setup isn't cheap.
@archkron well 30 buck which is about £22 over here in the uk that is CHEAP compared to the wii controllers you have to buy lol
Sony has just cornered the three-handed human market.
@WealthyIndustrialite
it's prawn technology!!!
@WealthyIndustrialite Cant wait to see the youtube video.
@WealthyIndustrialite
I can finally upgrade from my N64!
Oh Beeblebrox will be loving this...
that would so uncomfortable! the PS3 controller is already so horrible. I hate using the playstation controller. My 360 controller is so much more comfortable, probably the best out of everyone if you ask me.
@deepen03 I've had the PS3 for 2 years, and bought the xbox360 a couple of days ago - I agree with you. The 360 controller is more comfortable.
@deepen03 Agreed, it just fits better in hand.
@deepen03 I love my PS3, but sadly even the Gamecube's controller is more comfortable than a Dualshock or Sixaxis.
@deepen03
I don't know why you got downranked... It's a valid opinion.
I definitely find the L2/R2 bumpers as well as both analogue sticks just... harder to use in general. They're both convex vs the 360's concavity, this just makes your fingers slip off a lot. They should have changed the ergonomics around, and it would have been much better to switch the d-pad and left thumbstick; although, that would have created a whole mob of Playstation fanboys raging about how they've caved to the 360 etc.
@rjc34 yea you know what sony should have done? remember those ps3 Wave style controller they were going to use back in 2005? then they scrapped the idea because of the cost I think. But some japanese PS3 models had those wave controllers..
look here:

i foresee an array of ghetto rigged dual shock 3's in the near future
@DooMskis Nah, Madcats will be all over this with a line of lanyards and grips for your dual shock3. However, they will all cost $19.99.
The 3DS dominated E3 this year..
the line for the demo units were the longest ever
@commenter7 how is this relevant to the move???
3ds is sweet, sort of.... I will probably get one, playstation move seems rad also, you don't have to jump on a one way train you know your allowed to like both! Crazy I know.....,,
ps. Kinect.... Is sort of lame not gonna lie....., I'd rather have a wii
I like the option, but it does seem like it would be uncomfortable. Its worth a try to save the money though!
so, you can use the dualshock in your hands and the Move on your mouth, or any other hole in your body...
@ATerNoX
Because the Dualshock is really heavy right? It's the lightest controller I've ever used. I own a 360 so it actually felt..odd, using the PS3 my brother owns, I've actually grown to prefer the heavier, studier 360 control.
But for this? It's more than light enough to hold in one hand.
@Tes just jocking
I think Dualshock3 it's light enough (altough a lighter Sixaxis will be preferred in this case), but not very confortable to use with one hand, Anyway, I'm pretty sure I will try to use the Move with It before thinking to buy the nunchuck...
@ATerNoX
Ah...my mistake...I believe my brother does have the lighter Sixaxis. It doesn't rumble.
I love how theres no damn cord connecting the nav controller to the move controller
I'm sure sony will take care of that in one of the firmware updates.
Why does it have X and O anyway? They could have put the L and R buttons instead.
If I was standing up and I could strap it to my thigh I could see that working. Possible velcro it to my pants. Otherwise it will just require two hands.
Sony's going to let you find out what it was like for the Power Rangers to control the Megazord. Hint: Zordon actually gave the Megazord good AI, and the power crystals actually were just there for show.
No, I'm not as delusional as most people who read that first part. I know Power Rangers was all fake and the Megazord was just a someone dressing in a costume. To those people who wanted to argue with me about how the Megazord worked, accept the feelings of being a moron and move on with your life. It was fake and you're just wasting your breath trying to argue a point that cannot be right because what you're saying isn't even real.
