That case doesn't look half bad.
@Cydoniac
Now it looks like a PC. :)
Did they fix the cooling issues? Seams to me that it would be prone to overheat more being in a smaller box.
@Xtole
Its actually much less prone to overheating now because it uses cooler chips and better cooling.
@Xtole Nope. Its supposedly cooler.
@Xtole
There's vents on the sides now. Plus when it's sitting laying down it's further from the ground. Just at first site I can tell the cooling is much more efficient...
@Xtole They fixed the overheating issues with the Xbox Elite so I think this one will be fine.
@Xtole - It's too early to definitively tell if MS has completely fixed the design flaws, but at first glance it appears they have. The CPU + GPU are now on one unified chip (as opposed to two separate ones in previous iterations), which will really help keep the heat output down. The heatsink also looks to be of a good size, and the fan is much larger than the two before.
@elckicker
I've owned a 360 since launch and its never red ringed or over heated (I keep it in open air on my desk). I'm guessing the issue is more where you keep your xbox than how it was made because I know of xbox elites that have red ringed (though that wouldn't be a problem if the cooling was great).
@tobsmonster2 - The issue with previous 360s is NOT where you put them. The cooling system MS designed was completely inadequate. Combine that with a horrendous way of mounting the heatsinks to the motherboard and you've got a RoD epidemic.
@Cydoniac poor, poor, XBOX.
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOU?
@MRCUR
Mine has worked fine since launch (never opened or returned etc). Only difference I can see is that mines never been in a cupboard or on carpet. That was my point.
@tobsmonster2 - I was replying to your "guess" about why 360s fail. That was my point.
@MRCUR Half a decade later, if there are design flaws, I seriously question the basic competency of the Xbox 360 design team.
@Cydoniac It doesn't look bad, but unless you go really wild with lots of colors, generally you want only one LED color. For the Xbox, I thought its supposed to be green, not blue.
Secondly, while a glowing box is cool at LAN parties and perhaps even your game room, they don't belong in your living room and would be a distraction.
@Cydoniac
Great...now you can watch through the window as it grinds up your discs.
@Cydoniac Yeah, I need only half the bleach to wash my eyes.
@Cydoniac
AWESOME!!! (Warranty Voided / XBOX ID Banned! RROD Imminent!)
@tobsmonster2 I had an elite RROD on me because of excessive dust and humidity in an apartment
@Cydoniac Tear down video and full size pics

@tobsmonster2 Doesn't matter. It's not like every device has either a 100% or a 0% failure rate...some will break some won't. Yours working doesn't mean there wasn't a flaw, hell MS spent millions in improving the support and warranty of the XBox post release plus a few redesigns to fix the issue. Clearly something was wrong.
People have had ones in the open fail and I'm sure some in cabinets are still working fine too. It's luck of the draw but nothing changes the fact that the initial design was highly flawed. FWIW I have an 06 model that never RROD either.
@elckicker
I've gone through 4 Elites, all RROD - No the Elites did NOT fix the heat issue.
@tobsmonster2
No.. it's not where you put them. I had mine laying horizontally with plenty of air around it and i'm on my 4th... this one has lasted quite some time though so it seems they finally nailed it.
wow, great gaming machine. best experience, wonderful graphics display, me loveit
@tobsmonster2
I've also had an Xbox from launch and had it on a desk in the open air but it still RROD, out of the 9 people I know with Xbox's (including some Xbox Elite's) ALL have RROD! ... that also includes my neighbour when I was bitching to him about mine just doing it and him telling me his did last week! lol ...
Actually tho I should probably also say all where covered by the extended warrenty but that's still a pretty crazy bad problem ... lets hope they've fixed it with this design, they must have ...
but wait they've put that big old baking hot AC adaptor brick in to the actual machine??! ... ut-oh!
Am I the only one that thinks the new Xbox looks really ugly?
@Supraman
Yes.
@Supraman
No, I agree. I don't like that little diagonal dip/cut in the middle. Other than that it's alright.
@Supraman Dude, it's a Alienware look-a-like, what's not to like?
@Johanu Alienware cases are fugly, they looked cool back in 2003.
@Supraman
You're not alone. It looks like an old modded glow in the dark PC that belongs at your desk than your living-room. I thought we were over that craze.
You can even see the fan spinning.
@Supraman
Atleast someone agrees with me. It looks extremely cheap. Especially compared to a PS3.
@Supraman
i'm a bigger fan of the original white design. prefer matte.
@Supraman I like the Elite better. The Elite looks way sexier to me and it actually looks like a gaming console. This looks like a cheap and ugly desktop computer. I will stick with my Elite!!
@Supraman
Like or dislike it....it doesn't look "cheap" imo. Heck if anything the cheap matte black plastic on the PS3 slim looks cheap. The gloss black on the new 360 looks expensive just like the phatty PS3's.
@Supraman
Yes, I like the old one more too... This one would look bad sitting next to my PS3 but the present one fits in just fine. No idea why you've been downranked, damn xbots...
@elckicker Haha. Well, the Elite looked like a Dell Optiplex GX280.
@dave95 This mod is actually useful though unlike most glass case mods which are mostly to show how much you overpaid for internals. In this case the mod allows you to tell which disk is in the machine without popping t out, and allows you to tell when the thing is on, which I understand can be a problem. So functionally it's an improvement. Aesthetically I agree though. It doesn't make thing thing look better in the great scheme of things.
@Killing Time - Yeah, a nice matte black would look killer IMO, and you don't have to worry about freaking finger prints all over the thing!
looks great
Oooh! That's beauteeful.
Great game :)
Wow, it looks more and more like the old Dell XPS gaming machines. LOL.
It looks like a pc case, kinda ugly IMO
@notit
agree, and a bit cheap too I think.
And wht does it "wooble" like that, does it need a stand...
Hey you know pressing the eject button again to close the drive is a lot better way to shut the drive than jamming it in....
It always annoys me when people do that.
@Jordan Yeah I hate when people do that
I do that alllllll the time :)
@Jordan They are designed to do that...as long as you just tap it in and let it close itself.
@Jordan
They make them so you can either push the tray a bit and it will go back in or so you can press the button now. It really doesnt matter what way you choose to close it anymore, unless you are being super violent and slamming it in then youre not going to do it any harm.
