eviGroup Paddle gets specced and splayed, now available from €599
This is far from the most flattering angle from which to view eviGroup's multitouch tablets, but it shows off an important facet of design -- should you buy the pricy Paddle (pictured at left), you'll be able to swap the battery, memory and hard drive. Units ship today with yesteryear's netbook specs, including a 1.6GHz Atom CPU, 160GB hard drive, 0.3 megapixel webcam and 1GB of RAM, but also the ports many tablets lack, including three USB jacks, VGA-out, an SD card slot and wired LAN. 802.11a/b/g WiFi comes standard while 3G connectivity costs an extra €150 (roughly $186), and if you'd rather not tinker with operating systems or hardware upgrades yourself, the factory will handle both for €50 ($62) and €79 ($98) respectively. The questions remaining are if the hardware can handle your applications -- and whether you're willing to pay iPad-plus prices for a device with just three hours of estimated battery life. am i the only one who read evilGroup?
@mrqs
also vga-out is lacking in many tablets for a good reason
@mrqs I came here to post the exact same comment, word by word.
@mrqs : Battery Life?
Looks just like the EVO. Oh but wait, it will have an actual battery that hold longer than 2 h!
@magadget
Funny kid
How are you supposed to watch video on it without Nvidia ION?
Even the JooJoo does better with win7 loaded up.
@Oler
True. Either an ION or Broadcomm was necessary.
I'm curious, what is the capacity (mAh) on that removable battery.
Maybe there can be an extended battery solution!
@Kangal Me to, my 1201n even has better battery life and thats with an ION so. It probably isn't going to amaze.
It's bulky enough as it is, imagine a bigger battery.
So the main advantages of this tablet are that you can swap the HD, the RAM and the HDD? They'll surely sell a boatload of them then [/s]
@drange
err... HD = battery ofcourse
Sure it's iPad plus-pricing, but for the features and ability run whatever you want it's sure looking like a plus to me. Pay a little more and be able to do what I want. Pay a little less and do what Apple wants to let me do. Which in some cases may require a small nominal fee to have an app to do what would normally be free on a flash enabled device.
dekstop Windows? WHY???? Get the embeded one. Or Android. Desktop OSs on portable touch devices suck!
It's not "specced". It's "spec'd" - short for "specified".
