Google replaces hints of Chrome OS hardware from Acer, Dell, and HP with even better hints
As you may recall from a few days ago, Google offered some of the clearest evidence of Chrome OS hardware from major manufacturers yet by letting some build configurations for Acer, Dell, and HP slip out into its public code repository. Now, that wasn't too surprising considering that each of the companies have already made their Chrome OS intentions pretty clear, but Google seems to have done a bit of backtracking nonetheless. It's replaced the files with what you see above (the files, not the Caruso), which now suggest that Chrome OS hardware is coming from the likes of Amiga, Commodore and Atari. Way to raise expectations, Google.

inb4 flood of chrome tablets
@ComeShot
So that Pacman on Google main page thing was actually a sign of things to come?
@ComeShot
Holy crap, 3DFX is making a ChromeOS product?
I wonder if they'll try to cram one of their Voodoo 5 6000 cards into a tablet...
@ComeShot
"overlay-3dfx-private.git" ?!?!? Isn't 3DFx dead???
Are we getting a revival of 3DFx in portable gfx chips, just like PowerVR?
Welcome to the future?
YEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
@krishansy Welcome BACK to the future.
@Seb6554
If your future involves a bunch of random gits, I pity you.
@grawss What would make you say that?
PS What's a "git"?
@Seb6554 git is part of the repository nomenclature. It is also a British insult directed and a male insultee.
In other words, it was a horrible joke. :/
Dammit. Now I want a Commodore ChromeOS computer.
Dammit.
@Cam
Chromodore?
@Cam
Mac fanboys will still like it more than Windows.
@d3sc3nd3ncy lol macfanboys will like anything more than windows xD
Hmmm.. I wish they'd come out with this quick. for some reason it feels like this has been going on for aaaages!
I better start saving for my chrome commodore.
Time to dust off the old Commodore 64 with cassette and acoustic coupler add-ons for some serious web experiences via Chrome.
@mickaloha my C64 has ethernet connectivity, 16mb ram and sd card reader thanks to the 1541 Ultimate :) So it is not actually that far fetched.
Imagine some fancy desktop effects accelerated by 3dfx glide. Yum!
@dalextc
And imagine those fancy desktop effects accelerated by orchard supply hardware.
Wait. WTF is orchard supply hardware?
this is why i still love google... despite all the evil things they may be doing.
They still do a lot of good even if some gestures are just small.
@PCG
yeah this is a nice humanitarian effort. wait... wut?
@Psyclotr0n
hmm clearly took what i said out of context... they are still a cool company
@Psyclotr0n
I am humanitarian. I eat humans.
@PCG
Cool because they use cutesy names to describe their OS, and do a few things to keep gullible nerds onside?
@pukerocket
yes thats a good example of the small.
to give a few of the big theres stuff like flu trends, person finder, freedom of info, standing up to a nation and various green energy ventures.
@pukerocket Seems like you dont like Google...Just a hunch
@PCG What evil. No really. You call it evil. I call it Google making a bonehead mistake. I'm sick of people making the assumption that all companies are infallible when they get big; and that when they screw up its because they want to screw the consumer over. Google is the same Google when they were loved the world over. The difference is they are big now, and that doesn't automatically make them evil. In fact the only thing evil I've seen them do is ordering a take down notice of Donut when it wasn't released yet on one of the ROM developer boards out there. Pretty crappy behavior. Other then that....whatever. When they behave like MS in the late 90's early 00's or Apple now....lets talk.
@John Doe
I was careful to say, 'may be doing' I don't know what happens behind closed doors and neither do you.
@FlyingAero
Google fanboys are all over the place cos they get stuff for free. The same people would love Apple if they gave them stuff or free
Free stuff? Where does one acquire these free google phones? I've only seen them, at best, buy two for one.
Free email and adds? I can get that anywhere.
@BigFatDuck especially since there on iphone now too. you know the adds that are going to be IN YOUR FACE, and *interactive*
haha, 3dfx. So good!
okay.
I like turtle sandwiches
@einhanderkiller I turtled a sandwich.
Transmeta... Maybe I've found a use for that old OQO that's been collecting dust.
It looks like this laptop... needs formatted.
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!
@geekthree Did you notice that it looks like he is about to put sunglasses *on top* of the sunglasses he is already wearing? Horatio Caine must be pretty proud of himself for this little discovery!
is that Horatio?
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH it is.
@hockey4life0099
Is he about to put on sunglasses over the sunglasses he's already wearing?
@Snarky30
I just saw that! Hahaha
@hockey4life0099
SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!
Perhaps this Chrome needs a little more polishing....
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
It looks like google... committed a file.
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
ChromeOS is vaporware. It's been almost 2 years and nothing but some mockups. How long does it take you to boot up a browser in a minimal linux shell? Then again why would anyone use something so dumbed down.
@loadoftoad
Everything is vapor until it ships. Even iDevices. Is ChromeOS coming to market? Yes.
@loadoftoad The question should not be "how long does it take" but "how long does it take to do right".
I'm guessing they're taking their sweet time over it, to make sure its not dung on release, and everyone dismisses it after five minutes.
