White HTC EVO 4G coming exclusively to Best Buy on July 11th, pre-orders start today

Update: And it's official; the presser is after the break confirming the same $199.99-on-a-2-year-contract price as well as the dates mentioned already.
Update 2: Turns out this thing was around way back at Google I/O! Head on past the break and mash play -- that's definitely a white-backed EVO 4G on stage. Thanks, Omar!

Does the screen come off the white one or is that feature only on the black one?
I hope you realize that your comment does not add to the discussion. You do realize not all of EVO 4g's have that problem? Your attempt at trolling is pathetic.
@Mike Vick or maybe its a real question from someone intrested in buying...
@Fr3sh2De4th
Honestly, it sounds like a fair question either way. HTC should have focused more effort on fixing this issue, rather than pumping out this new color (which looks tacky BTW).
@Fr3sh2De4th is this your first time on engadget?
@Mike Vick
Sure his comment was slightly underhanded in its delivery, but it is a legitimate question... If they decided to put together a white one, perhaps they fixed the screen problem, and maybe the black ones sold from now on are fixed as well. It's always a possibility.
@Madcat
Doesn't the iPhone also come in the same tacky white? And iSheeps seen to love it because it looks so "Fabulous".
@boe
DOES THE NEW IPHONE DROP CALLS OR does let you check more than one email or is that a feature?
i was hoping for this!
Hey guys remember the first leak of the SuperSonic where Mr Blurry cam was in the dark while it was powering on and than he flips it rite at the last moment and its white BUT
it had HTC SuperSonic on the back!
HTC please forget the tatto make a custom paint shop for the SuperSonic!
@Mike Vick
maybe they'll sell a few more thousand, then pretend it was millions in a press release.
@boe Hopefully the white has a better battery.
@Mike Vick Thank you.
My Evo preforms flawlessly and it's screen is firmly in place.
@TomSawyer That was Sprint and not HTC. Plus the whole premise of that argument was way off. From what I know its still a good phone and there is a lot of demand.
@Zylam why is the bezel still black? it should be white all around. Looks kinda "ghetto" looking like the owner replace his/her lost black cover with a white one. No fashion sense at all :P
Caaarraaaap! I'm still in my 30 day return period, but I don't want to screw Sprint like that. Of course, they'd screw me in a second, right? What to do...
@TomSawyer
STFU with your numbers. IF you have ever taken a stats class you will know that numbers can used to in any favor. Only cause you sell 1 million burgers doesnt mean MCDonalds had the best burgers. So Toyota is better than MB and BMW cause the sell more cars. That the logic behind Uncle Steve and you guys are stoopid to believe it. Its AN ECOSYSTEM people bought into and invested money into why turn back. Keep buying iphone just dont troll this thread.
FYI speech on android phone is the shizznit...i know you iphone people want it but arent going to get it maybe til next year by then youll behind. Does the iphone even do LTE or wimax? WiFIi video conferencing WTF is this. ATT sucks they keep giving excuses for their services how we have too many user. Its been 4 fuking years upgrade your shit.
Even though the EVO didnt pre-order millions who gives a flying rats ass. Its areally good phone and its not lock down and no one man say yes or no.
Seriously go back to your iphone and be years behind a standard phone and drinking the kool aid.
@Twoleaf no I just never rly comment... I just used to read the article & leave lol...so on my new phone there's an app for engadget so I said what the hell? :)
@Seven2k
Can you please keep your comments short until you have a decent grasp of English?
Your comment is horrilble to read
The weak talking points have to stop, there is nothing wrong with the EVO's screen. The fact neither HTC or Sprint have issued a statement says a lot. Engadget is a blog, they produce one picture and a few people run with it. I will side with a reputable company over a blog any day. Not to mention engadget have been wrong in several articles regarding the EVO.
@Seven2k
What are you talking about? I have 4 email accounts on my iPhone and they all work just fine.
@rstoplabe14
Well I think we have a lot of HTC koolaid drinkers around Engadget to. I know for a fact that hundreds of bought HTC EVOs in black will be hitting ebay. The non iphone, Android crowd spends way more money trying to keep up with the latest hardware than the Apple crowd.
Verizon is going to release the Droid X next week which I bet is a rebranded HTC. And this after Verizon touted the so-called superior Incredible, da da da daaaaa, a mere few weeks ago. Talk about sheep. Get your head out your ass homeboy.
And of courser the Incredible 2 will probably be dropping in a few months along with an Updated HTC EVO. And yes you fucking Android sheep will follow.
@rstoplabe14 iSheep? Ooh wait.... Ahhh... I see what you did there. Your quips sure do put me in a good humour... No wait, I just threw up in my mouth a little... I guess I'm allergic to comments made to belittle people just because they like a product or choose a product that's different from your own preference.
@Fr3sh2De4th
Big mistake.
@icase81
My EVO doesnt have light leakage...so keep quiet! Thanks
Last I checked I didn't see an android line forming outside verizon, sprint, or b.b. but I swear I heard steve jobs breaking out the cuttin shears @ apple store. Don't get me wrong I love apple but mr. Turtleneck is royally screwing ppl selling
refreshed(rehashed) products that now include functionality meanwhile competition was already playing with that a year before. Its time to stop milkin customers and give us the freedom to choose and not be limited to one guy basically.
@scorpeo It's also true that if the screen does start coming off then you take it back to Sprint and they get you a new one
@claybell
thanks my point exactly..but in a calmer demeanor.
freakin hilarious all that screen real estate and the glass won't even adhere to the phone! lmbo
@pdubc09
Yeah... why is it hilarious?
@NaeemTHM
works flawlessly...until you try to use the touchscreen with one hand....or shoot non-stuttering 720p video
@NaeemTHM
Mine too. Nothing wrong with my screen. In fact, my battery is also pretty decent. I easily get a morning to night charge with it. I guess I don't use the phone like a laptop when I have one of those next to me. Not impressed with the HD video though.
@Christopher02
Have you used the EVO? I have always one-hand operated touchscreen phones, starting with my old iPhone 2G. I have no problems one-handing my EVO. But then again I don't have tiny hands like some folks...
And btw the capacitive screen issue doesn't occur when one-handing the phone.
@tinye - wait, you're actually WORRIED about screwing a large company out of some money?? What's WRONG with you?!
@Mike Vick ur more of a troll than he is
@boe
It would be kind of cool to see someone find like a white back (since it's removable) and put it on a black one. Would make a cool little hybrid, for a lack of a better word.
@Mike Vick Its called a joke...it was a clever comment that obviously was sarcastic and btw what is it with white versions of phones? I agree with giving choice, and don't care what other people think, but why do they think like that? Is it because it's different from what's available?
@scorpeo The weak talking points have to stop, there is nothing wrong with the EVO's screen. The fact neither HTC or Sprint have issued a statement says a lot. Engadget is a blog, they produce one picture and a few people run with it. I will side with a reputable company over a blog any day. Not to mention engadget have been wrong in several articles regarding the EVO.
Your are wrong bro. I have the EVO since launch and I have Light Leakage under the Home,Menu,Back and Search buttons. I actually contacted HTC about the issue and they sent me an Incident Ticket and asked that I send pics, well I sent 3 pics and they apologized for the issue and said they are working on it. I am also having WiFi issues where I can connect to WiFi at home and only if I am on top of my router. If I go 8ft in any direction my reception is horrible. Other than these issues I still love this phone. It's one of the best electronic devices I have ever owned. Nothing beats watching ESPN at my work desk. Love Widgets and Full Web-Sites and not just the Mobile Version. When Droid 2.2 (Froyo) hits, this phone will be a BEAST.
Jesus christ...could HTC scream "Me too!" any louder?
@GHODZILLA5150
it's already been widely known that the wifi issue is just with it incorrectly displaying 1 or 2 bars of signal when in reality you actually have full strength. do a speed test and see. i know someone who had the same problem, it showed a weak wifi signal, but when he did a speed test on wifi, it was fine.
@teapower
I admit to being a troll, but if you notice I have decided to relax the trolling and add more to the discussion instead of my normal rants.
@boe
DROID X!! (srry its just what all the sprint/evo fans did.)
Oblivion, here i come
@scorpeo
I beg to differ, being an unlucky owner of an Evo 4g with a screen separating issue. Give them more than 3 days to respond...
Sweeping an issue under the rug won't help.
@boe ; Hey, it looks like they just painted the back-plate white and the front is still black. How lazy can you get? This is stupid. :|
@Tank54 I rooted my Evo and added the Overclock widget to manager my processor and I get around 24 to 30 hours per charge. My Evo is working great, best phone I have ever had, including better than any iPhone I have ever owned.
@One Love
You get almost the same effect if you just replace the battery cover. Not saying it's a good effect.
@jawman Here are my Speed Tests (6\15\10):
Near Router: 3.8mbps Down, 788kbps Up (9:02 pm)
8ft Away from Router: 3.2mbps Down, 361kbps Up (9:03 pm)
It's comparable I guess. Up speeds are cut around 50%. Down speeds are better.
I have run 7 speed tests since 6/11/10:
Avg Near Router: 3.9mbps Down and 763kbps Up
Avg 8 ft Away from Router: 3.1mbps Down and 332kbps Up
@Seven2k
aww did stevey forget to take his adderall this morning?
@Seven2k
What?
Well here in Canada, my iPhone doesn't drop calls. It's not a hardware issue, unlike, say a phone's screen coming off. That's a hardware issue. And, I have several email addresses on my phone with unified inbox on OS 4 (which is available to everyone on Monday).
Have to say in the 362 days I've owned my iPhone 3GS my screen has never peeled off.
Does it come with the same low quality 16 bit screen? I really hope they decide to upgrade that. 4.3 inch screen that cannot display true colors. What were they thinking.
@pukerocket maybe if you had a not-so-microprocessor in your head, you could understand it, because i sure did
