Nearly every app in Palm's webOS catalog is 50 percent off

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
@captaind172
But developers on webOS also don't have the competition of developers for other platforms.
It's much easier for an app to stand out from the crowd in a smaller catalog than it is on Apple, where most likely there's already hundreds of other apps that do what your app does.
Wow! Engadget is late!!!
@iPodPhone Engadget was too late to report this and I feel that it's big news. 50% off apps is a big deal! Looks like they're too busy reporting about iPhone ordering issues.
Too bad I can not buy any on my german imported pre in the netherlands.
Oh yeah engadget, your webos app has broken down for a couple of days now.
How about a fix ?
sale is U.S only :(
I gotta couple bucks burning a hole in my pocket. Any suggestions?
@ACMartin buy new pants, getting rid of hole-burning bucks in the process :p

Ancient Frog
Paratrooper

Does anyone even own a palm phone anymore? To date I've only seen 1 palm pre in person (that was owned by a person)....
HP needs to kick it in high gear. And the fanboys can cry all they want but how many apps does the Palm Catalog actually have? Games of any interest?
I mean for example has Square Enix released any titles for webOS? Just curious...
@BrookLynnsFinest http://www.palm.com/us/products/software/mobile-applications.html
Check out the "Featured Apps" list. These are some of the apps available for WebOS.
@BrookLynnsFinest
2575 apps in the official Catalog, including ~10 EA titles, ~10 Glu Mobile titles, ~30 Gameloft titles.
Honestly, gaming on it is probably still better than Android at this point, despite the smaller number of overall apps.
Although of course, that's not including emulators on Android.
@jhoff80
Or, on webOS
Stick a fork in me Jerry; I'm done
Think I'll just hit the report button this time.
@hated one Someone with better grammar skills.
That logo is hideous. Make a new one! My eyes can't take it anymore. :P
@hated one The iPhone is over hyped webos has better usabilty and polish than the iPhone and the pre has better specs than the 3gs the iPhone won cuz it had a bigger fan base and like I said was over hyped but sinc ur a d@ck I'll tell u something android is gonna wipe apples a$$ on the phone market it already has more ppl in the USA that have android than iPhone and isn't slowing down internationaly the iPhone is for lil girls who can't have a menu centric phone cuz it's to hard iPhones ui is childish
The zero people I know who have the Palm Pre will be thrilled. And the -1 people I know who have the Palm Pre don't know what there were apps for the "phone".
Haha palm what a joke I really hope HP can help I can't wait to see there next phone
@Applefan31290
hp can't even make good calculators anymore. they are flimsy pieces of junk.
So what the hell are those tired managers going to do with an OS they didn't even make? Ain't part of their culture!
How the hell you going to root for webOS by HP?
That makes no since.
@pspitts
Really would have been great if HTC bought Palm. Shit even Nokia should had bought them.
Can anyone list a good product from HP?
Everything they make breaks and is junky.
Remember if a prostitute has a happy customer, they blew it!
I'm sure all 12 webOS users will be pleased as punch.
@zross312
Last I read there's about a million of us. Not quite the 20 million that Apple has but not exactly 12 either.
@sweet greggo '1 million' is how many handsets went out the door. When you consider how many were replacements, yeah, it probably about 12.
@dogma
Someone was quoted saying there are about 1 million phones in use. Take that for what it's worth.
@hated one Actually a while back a popular tech blog (I can't remember which) held a march madness smartphone contest and everyday they had a bracket setup with phones and the palm pre plus won the whole thing and smoked the iPhone by well over 3500 votes. So to answer your question, Palm Pre won.

PALM PRE FTW!
@clacombe
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!
But who just got sold?
FAIL +100
woohoo!! going to buy the apps i wanted to get ready for a webos tablet whenever that may be!
While on the subject of WebOs apps. Anyone else having trouble with the Engadget App? It appears to be broken on my Pre.
@drelusive Yeah I noticed it the past couple of nights. I just load the page in the browser instead; honestly it's just as good as the app and I don't have to click the too-small comments ox on the articles to see all the nutjobs here flame each other.
i browse the palm app store all the time, cant ever find anything worth downloading tho :(
If only the BlackBerry App World would do this, they're incredible. $3.19 Canadian for a tip calculator and another $3.19 for a program that launches the video camera app (If you enable the "Video Light" in the options, you now have a flashlight). Even if everything was half priced, it would still be way too expensive.
This reeks of a fire sale.
Sounds like tmo fathers day sale to get ppl to buy their phones
The real problem with the catalog isn't gaming its lack of mainstream apps young adults use. Shazam, foursquare, Google voice, NFL mobile, mlb at bat.... does eBay have a webos official yet? That stuff hurts sales as much as anything.
The OS itself is nice. Had they had more useful apps I would have stuck with it.
In today phone world people want apps that are popular. Even RIM figured that out.
The only problem with webos is that consumer actually does not need WEB OS, they need just a good OS. Needless to say that building interface with Javascript and HTML is a pain for developers. I wonder what an idiot came up with that idea in the first place. Internals of the OS are very good and robust, but presentation lays is a victim of corporative marketing.
Not gonna lie -- used to be a huge WebOS fan before becoming an Android fan -- better hardware, faster update cycle, and more applications make Android a clear win. Even if all the applications on WebOS are half off, there's only like 2000 of them, and of those 2000, there aren't many that are useful, with the exception of games.
