What, no red carpet unveiling for new desktops? It seems
HP's portability-deficient PCs have gone through a number of tweaks as of late. The Pavilion and Slimline collection ranges from Intel Celerons and AMD Semprons to Core i5s and
Phenoms. Pavilion Elites crank it up a notch further with numerous Phenom and Core i7 multi-core processors. All-in-one MS230z gets a recharge, too, but the TouchSmarts remain largely, erm, untouched since its
late April cleanup. The closest we have to a new model here is the all-in-one 200xt, which really is just a 200t with Intel's Core 2010 chips. Exact details of the upgrades are sketchy, but the real takeaway here is that you were looking into a new HP desktop, now's as good of a time as any. Full list of updated models via
LogicHP.
gosh do i hate how some PC manufacturers name their products.
"Hey, i got a macbook pro, what did you get?"
"I got a asus TSX678346VXY! ITS AWESOME!"
@boom roasted
You forgot to state your inches. SIZE MATTERS!
@boom roasted
+1 for the greatest comment ever. I remember when my friends all got new phones and were like
(nondescript friend #1) "Hey, I just got an iPhone"
(nondescript friend #2) "Oh yeah, well I have a Nexus One, what do you have?"
(Me)"I have a Samsung SCH-R610!"
-true story
@doyleman7
If the name has more than 4 syllables, you blew it.

@MrFluffyThing
LOLOMG that pic is great. but seriously i swear that is what they use. just look at the "related posts" on the right haha
"MSI follows fate's whispers, intros 24-inch Wind Top AE2420 3D"
LOL
@boom roasted
Apple makes like a handful of products, companies like HP/DELL make scores of products at virtually every market segment. They can't afford to be as spartan as apple.
@boom roasted That's because most manufacturers have more than 2 models.
@boom roasted
That is exactly what I was going to say... what is "xt" anyway?
And that applies to car manufacturers as well. what the hell is "GLE", "GLX", "GSX" etc...
@Matt08642 that shouldn't make a difference.
Take, for example, Motorola. It has pronounceable names for all its phones, such as Milestone, Droid, etc. Same for most other phone companies. Nokia doesn't name its phones that way, but when T-mobile introduces them, they name them things like "Nuron"
Making an argument that "most manufacturers have more than 2 models" is implying that there no more than 2 names available in the whole dictionary (and it's not even necessary to choose from the dictionary)
@boxieblue just to be clear, i am aware the discussion is about laptops and desktop computer models, not mobile phones. but the same rules apply to the naming of both.
Ross, I think you mean "discreetly". In fact, yes, that is what you mean. Discrete means separate, apart, standalone, as in a "discrete graphics card" being a GTX260 in a computer with onboard graphics.
@Jon AU
They are trim levels for cars. Would the car model make more sense if it listed all the features it has above the lesser model rather than a simple 3 letter code?
@boom roasted
Though your comment is funny, but for company like acer, hp, asus, dell etc., it is difficult to have names for every single desktop/laptop they manufacture. There are 1000s of options modifiable in 100 different ways. It is not worth the effort to have a name for every single model. They do brand certain high end machines with names though.
@doyleman7
Wouldnt it really be
(nondescript friend #1) "Hey, I just got an Apple iPhone"
(nondescript friend #2) "Oh yeah, well I have a HTC Nexus One, what do you have?"
(Me)"I have a Samsung SCH-R610!"
Most of the time people dont know the brands of their phone so if you're going to add Samsung infront of SCH-R610 than add Apple & HTC infront of the other two
@boom roasted
Don't forget that whilst some companies (i.e. Apple) have only two laptop models, other companies have dozens and dozens and even more modifications.
@boom roasted you can take that a macbook pro and Steve Jobass and put it where the sun does not shine!
looks interesting.. But i'm really interested to see if hp implements palm's ui elements into their touchsmart...
That design looks familiar...
@Vuke iMac ring a bell ?
Looking at the picture I initially thought that the keyboard was built into the base of the computer, which gave me a great idea... Keyboards should be built into the bases of all-in-ones. Why has no one thought to make this earlier (I would say that no one has thought of the idea at all, but thats clearly the look HP was going for with the photo.
@doyleman7
But...what if I want to move my keyboard
@doyleman7
Yeah, and they could also somehow replace the power supply with a battery, and maybe attach the mouse to the keyboard. And it would fold shut, so it can be taken anywhere. You may be onto something.
@doyleman7 Sony used to have some a couple years back with a hinged keyboard that could fold up.
@doyleman7
And what about having a big desk and you want to put the screen far from you (everyone should do this because of their eyes) ? The all-in-one is the computer, not the peripherals..
@n8equalsd Dell XPS M2010.
18lbs, 20" monitor, keyboard held on w/ magnet so could be attached or taken off and the whole beast folded up into a briefcase. It was a lesktop or daptop hybrid thingamajig.

@Ducman69
Thank you, at least someone sort of got it. Although I knew when I posted it that it would be impractical for some, I think for a small workspace it could be a good idea.
*Cough* iMac *Cough*
It's pretty nice looking, of course, like all all-in-ones it probably can't be upgraded in the least.
Every time I see HP making an all in one, I'd actually like to see them making one with a printer literally built in or something that can be upgraded in a modular way.
@fourblades
I want to show you this thing called USB... you might wanna sit down for this
@Wesscoast The point was that you could just have it come straight out of the computer. That would actually be pretty cool. It would save desk space for something else... like a second monitor.
@Wesscoast
hahaha what I mean is something built inside the computer, I mean they keep turning their printers almost like a computer anyways.
Also I mentioned something modular like how we replace the internal hard drive or optical drives with our desktop.
Why is HP lacking of advertisement for their newly refreshed computers... No wonder why Acer is winning
that's a nice truck
[quoting Steve Jobs]
Th real question is why dont these companies have backlit desktop keyboards as an option for computers?
@AlienSix Probably because they're conspiring to make you to open the curtains once in a while instead of sitting in a darkened room.
I hope this means the tm2 refresh is imminent...
...Waiting for the Envy 14.
(in stewie) ohh, ohh, wait for it, no? still no smartphone? oh ok. no smartphone this time folks!
I want one, but ofcourse, they haven't updated their international sites yet.
Looks like a cheap plastic iMac and that's basicly what it is!!
i think you mean "discreetly". discrete is all one unit. discreet is without attracting a lot of attention.
Always wanted an all-in-one. Sadly I don't have 800 bucks, and it not even an Apple product. Le' gasp! Oh well, looks better then the early all-in-ones.
@ZackC456 Sorry, make that 900 bucks. :P
And at $1999 I'd STILL choose the iMac over this.
Great! You discreetlyfixed the spelling error in the headline with a little prompting from readers :).
A touchscreen PC? No thanks.
