WiFi-only Nook surfaces in Barnes and Noble database, costs $149?
We knew it was coming, but not how soon, and we'd only guessed at a price. Today a tipster sent over this screenshot, however, clearly showing a Nook WiFi on Wednesday for $149. While internal databases aren't the most reliable source for release dates even assuming the screenshot is legit, we'll know for sure in just days. The question now is how Kobo stacks up.
Update: Google's dropping some $149 - $199 hints about the new Nooks in its sponsored ads as well. See a sample after the break. [Thanks, Joseph]

Consider me a nook reader if it is 149!
@scots79
as long as everything else stays the same im sold
@scots79
Really?!?
@scots79
Indeed, I'll be nooked if this is true
@scots79
Definitely, this is what I've been waiting for. Who the hell needs 3G on an e-reader anyway? What am I gonna do with 3G when I'm traveling through Asia for 3 months?
kaching
If this is the price, I will be getting one :D
Wow... I love it!
That's...cheap... :o Wouldn't mind an e-reader, if only I didn't live in this blasted country.
And just noticed something. No. Blurrycam.
@HikaKao
So with a BlurryCam you cant see the individual pixels on the screen. Should we call it a RetinaCam instead?
and then well focused pictures can be called JaggedyCam shots.
@DrDr Probably too tired, but I didn't see the funny part in it.
Sold. I was going to get one with the Father's Day promotion (bonus $50 gift card) but I couldn't quite justify $260. If this is legit, I'm definitely getting one.
@tegwas I just bought one this weekend!!
Oh well
@desmo I was seriously considering getting one last night, in case the Father's Day promotion ended today/tomorrow. I'm glad I waited. (Maybe you can return yours?)
This is good.
Amazon should counter with a $130 3Gless, keyboardless, kindle.
You don't really need a keyboard on the kindle if you buy books on your PC, and it will make it smaller, lighter, cheaper and easier to hold.
Dedicated ereaders need to be able to compete better with tablets based on price. If you can get a ton more functionality from an iPad for less than double the current prices, it is going to draw a lot of people away. But people who like to just read novels and that sort of thing who don't use a keyboard or want any of the extra iPad features can probably impulse buy a $99-$149 ereader at Target.
@DrDr
While e-readers should cost less, I think the iPad competition thing is overblown. It uses an LCD screen, and if you've ever read a book on one, you'd know how absolutely terrible it is. I've done it. I've also read books on my PSP and phone. It's terrible.
I don't think the person who's looking at an e-reader is really considering the iPad. It's just not made for books and is only a side feature that is lacking solely because of the screen. Any dedicated reader who wants an e-reader isn't looking at the iPad too closely. JMHO. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the iPad is swaying many people looking at Kindles or the like at all.
@bluesolace
I bought an iPad over a Kindle.
@bluesolace
I read eBooks on my 3.6" screen all of the time. For hours at a time. While I'm sure eInk will be better I have yet to experience any downside (other than the screen size) when reading from an LCD.
... and no - I'm not an iPad fan.
@bjsguess I rather read books on my phone. I understand the screen is to small for some people and it's a hassle to constantly change pages but I don't need another device to carry around.
@ the above
Maybe I'm wrong then. I just know that when I try to read on an LCD, I can only stand it for short periods of time.
@bjsguess
Try reading on your LCD screen outside on a nice, sunny day.
It ain't happening.
As others have said, at $150 this isn't bad at all. If it ever crept down to $100 it would be well into the impulse buy range.
@apairofdocs
er, 100 dollars is impulse buy to you?
wish i was you.
Totally getting one at this price.
I don't need a 3G in my ebook reader. If I am out and about, I have my cell phone on me, and my cell phone has a a Wi-Fi hotspot app.
i will buy one at $150.
DO IT BN!
anyone know when the $50 gift card promo is expiring? seems like that might be a good time to launch the cheaper model.
@sinai Currently it is until B&N tells them otherwise. They keep giving out $50 gift cards until corporate says "No mas!"
@jonathanp
yes. but what i was getting at was, if someone had any insights that the $50 gift card would be ending on June 22nd, that would be a very strong indicator that this is legit.
@sinai Nobody would know. None of the stores have an idea when it will stop. It is until they are told to stop. Unless the top dogs of B&N post on here, I doubt we will find out.
@jonathanp

eat it.
@sinai First off, eat it? What are we, seven years old?
Secondly, there isn't anything there that says I am wrong. As I stated, the stores have no knowledge on when the $50 promo is going to end. They are going to do it until they get notification other wise. Could it be when the new Nook is released? Perhaps. Could it go on for another month, and have it exclusive for the $259 Nook? Perhaps as well.
I guess next you're going to say that I'm lying about being able to get $10 off a whole Cheesecake from their Cafe. Apparently you are under some general umbrella where you aren't reading what someone is trying to say.
Not once did I state that they weren't giving out $50 gift cards. I know for a fact that they do. What I am trying to get through your stubbornness, and apparently your sophomoric attitude, is that only the people working at corporate, up in New York, truly know when they will stop offering a free $50 gift card with every nook purchase. If you are going to try and get me, perhaps use something I didn't already know (and state for that matter!).
Can I get a Kindle at $150 for WiFi only? I usually download anything I need over a WiFi connection and am reading on the mass transit so the 3G enabled version does me no good (especially on AT&T's 3G network).
There was a lot of unhappiness at launch.
Were they able to shake out any problems through software fixes?
Also... they are close. Get to < $100 for the holidays and they should do pretty well.
@savagemike The latest software update greatly improved the responsiveness of the OS. I love my Nook.
I think they will sell at ton of these things at $150.
Ever notice how many people on these forums are buying things, the droid group i have to say is the worst, but only because there is limited iPhone types available, but ever droid phone that comes out 2100 people are buying it. I bet if you look back its the same people claiming to buy everything as well, now it's a nook, also notice no one is complaining that it's wifi only, if it was an apple product 'people' would bitch that it wasn't 3g. Just a casual observance, oh and HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
@adamjustadam Ignoring the others bits because I can't make heads or tails of your comment, but - there's already a version out with 3G, so even if the nook were Apple, there wouldn't be anything to complain about on that front.
Finally getting to prices I would consider worth it.
I'm sorry that this is off topic guys but I need to know.
IF I choose to have my iPhone 4 delivered for pickup at the Apple Store do they send you a note with shipping information? Or is that only if you choose to have it delivered straight to your house?
@BrookLynnsFinest You have actually achieved it. Posted an iPhone comment in a thread COMPLETELY unrelated to it. You are a tier troll.
You sir, win the internet for your massive amount of trolling.
@pintonion
I said I was sorry idiot. I only asked cuz I was worried when I didn't get an email regarding my iPhone 4...
Thats all. No need to freak out...
@BrookLynnsFinest
saying you're sorry before doing something doesn't make it OK.
When the Nook only offers book browsing and buying over 3G, why bother with 3G at all?
The only reason the Kindle's 3G is so great is because you also get a Web browser and Wikipedia access - two things B&N locked down on their device.
I'd buy a Nook WiFi (or BRAVO Lite, as it's internally dubbed).
Isn't the nook thats out now only wifi capable? I'm wondering what they cut if this is a new one. Or if it's a price reduction on the ones out now.
@admlshake The original nook has 3G and wifi.
@admlshake
My mistake, I thought it was wifi only.
Nearly there, $100 is my self-set price cap for an e-reader. At that point it will only take 10 e-books instead of hardcover novels for me to be in the black. (assuming hard covers sell for $25 and ebooks for $15)
$149 is a nice price. I got a Kobo (Canadian version's Kindle/Nook) for $149 and its a sweet deal. $149 is a great price point...
@NeoXY Kobo is the Border's E-Reader.
I might just get one if it's otherwise the same.
100% SOLD. $259 seemed like quite a bit for something that you just read from. Chop a hundo off it and I'm there.
Nook screen is nicer than the Sony and not locked in format wise like the Kindle.
Let's just hope it looks the same, if not better, than the current Nook. I'm sure it will.
