Dell Streak gets cozy with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, suddenly looks small (video)
Look what we have here? The Dell Streak sure keeps bringing us more and more surprises -- unlike most Android devices that lack the Bluetooth HID profile, here it is paired up with our wireless keyboard and mouse (Apple's Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse, specifically) without any driver hacks. Streak Smart, who made this discovery, had the same experience as us with its iGo Stowaway keyboard and an unknown mouse -- typing was as smooth as cutting butter with a hot knife, but the mouse couldn't do much due to the lack of pointer and scrolling support. If you insist, the forthcoming Nokia N8 is confirmed to support both devices natively, but it shouldn't be long before we see a mouse hack for the green bot. Hands-on video after the break, and do also head over to the source link if you need more convincing.
P.S. -- Since commenter dudeville was asking, here's how to pair the Apple keyboard with the Streak: type a four-digit PIN on the phone when prompted, then type the same number on the keyboard and press the enter key. Good luck!

thats what she said :(
@Android looks Hacked Together
I think the quality is good, but they are overpriced and most importantly ergonomic disasters for the sake of aesthetics.
Long Live Logitech! *bangs sword against shield*
@Android looks Hacked Together
Actually Richard know a lot about tech stuff but he is in Europe ( England I think ) and if you don't stay fashionable over there people ain't takeout seriously. Richard is actually one of the most knowledgeable writers here she it comes to things that aren't Apple
@Android looks Hacked Together
Those were the only Bluetooth keyboard and mouse I had -- both came with my iMac, but they're in my drawer most of the time.
Anyway, bye troll!
@Richard Lai
LOL. That was harsh but for fucxs sakes Finally
One troll down 3 more to go
@refink
Good thing this and the pricing post are included in the hub that they created.
Slick little device...haven't had the opportunity to pick one up and try it yet, but I really want to.
@jrm125
yah its almost the same size as the EVO and X coming out hahaha
Didn't think anything could make the Streak look small.
@liquidkernel
Makes me think of the computers used in Brazil (the movie, not the country). Just need to add a big fresnel lens in front to give it a larger looking screen.
@Xerberos Yeah, that was a weird movie (it was just on and I recorded it but didn't watch it yet). That 96 key (?) keyboard is just about as retro as that movie. Remember when keyboards with a keypad were an upgrade? Along with moving up to 640k from 512k ram!
what can i say?
I believe what I'm witnessing here is sacrilegious! lol I don't think Steve would approve this setup.
Dear Engadget,
You guys are due for a contest, can I win this?
- Plazmic Flame
Sent from my non-Dell Streak device.
@Plazmic Flame YES WANT WAANT WAAAAAAANT!
Yes, we insist. Out of box functionality > Hack.
I think I've been wooed yet again. Dell release this. Quickly. I need portable emulation.
@BigJayDogg3
Well, release it in the US. A Euro version does this US native no good.
@BigJayDogg3
Also, why is the British accent so friggin AWESOME?!
@BigJayDogg3 because too many people had American accent?
@K3N I live in America, and by EVERYONE I've met, I've been told I don't have ANY accent. What's funny is, that I live in South Carolina...
Anyway, too cool. Wait, didn't that Compaq AirLife 100 have a Mouse in use on it? How'd they do that?
@Firehazel
I'm from Louisiana and its the same thing...
Mouse: It's probably a custom thing in Compaq's skin. I'd like to see a _good_ convertible Android tablet.
Is it me or do you have 3 Nexus One behind the Streak?
@venezia
it's just you, there's one nexus and a number of lesser android phones
@venezia From left: another Dell Streak, Nexus One, Desire, Hero, and iPhone 3GS. :)
@venezia Oh I was referring to the ones in the video, btw.
I, for one, welcome our keyboard compatible overlords
Nokia N900, Nexus One, HTC Legend, HTC Desire, iPhone, Dell Streak, Apple Bluetooth Keyboard, Magic Mouse, iMac... How can I work on Engadget? :D

OK, so I'm getting Dell Streak when it comes out. Hopefully this year for Canadians. yes please!
@iTsMe99
If you Canadians get screwed just buy an ATT one from Dells site since it will beunlocked
This is cool, but hmm the Dell Streak are people going to buy this device in volume?
Damn Dell... just release this thing in the US already!
Hi all,
Well i was just about to sell my Nokia SU-8W Bluetooth keyboard on E-Bay and am pretty sure i wasn't going to get much for it either. So seeing this article i decided to see if it would also work with my Streak and yes it does. The direction arrows don't seem to fully work but it types fine including numbers and it also makes a nice stand to rest my Streak on to.
So now i can use Swype when out and about and my Bluetooth keyboard when i need to and as a bonus i can use it as a desktop stand for the Alarm Clock function as well saves paying Dell silly money for their stand or buying anyone else's either.
All i can say is as every day goes by i just love my Streak more and more can't wait for the Froyo 2.2 update to come as well as the full version of Rock Player that plays all my unconverted DivX and other Video files now on my Streak without the need to convert anything.
The Streak really is the best smart phone for me by a long way I'm so glad i bought it and not anything else i was considering.
@Dogmann Hi Have you experienced any issues when you charge your Streak? I love mine however on occasion it wont charge using the wall power adapter or, like last night I charged it before going to bed and this morning the battery is completely flat.This has been the only issue other than the battery cover kept coming off so I have put a small piece of sticky tape on it to keep it on. I may return it if the charging issue keeps occurring. Any one else reported these problems?
@DefPoet
Thanks for the info. I didn't know it will be unlocked when it comes out. I think they will release this after the iPhone 4. If it does happen..I don't think anyone will go for the iPhone. I so want this i don't care about the price. I will sell my car if i have 2...LOL
@iTsMe99 You shouldn't need to sell your car. ;) http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/02/dell-streak-500-unlocked-in-us-available-next-month/
I think I'll stick with my BsB Tweaked HD2/Stowaway setup. What's the difference if you want portable WP?
How about trying with a real bluetooth mouse and keyboard from either Microsoft or Logitech? Apples keyboards and mice drop all the time when connected with bluetooth and they are both disasters when it comes to usability for REAL work.
@loadoftoad How founded is your statement?
@Firehazel I have an Apple bluetooth keyboard. I can confirm the connection drops all the time.
SO. MUCH. WIN.
SOLD.
@Richard Lai
Omg...Thanks..you are my favorite Gadget man.LOL..next month as in July for $500 unlocked..yes please!
That's exactly what I want. Just add a portable flatscreen, compact keyboard with trackpad and we have the next generation computer.
Or imagine a netbook with the guts ripped out and a place to plug in the phone as the computer.
@donv69 So you mean a Palm Foleo, right? Or a Redfly?
@donv69 I've been saying this for years! Why don't people get it?!
