Dell Streak gets cozy with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, suddenly looks small (video)
Look what we have here? The Dell Streak sure keeps bringing us more and more surprises -- unlike most Android devices that lack the Bluetooth HID profile, here it is paired up with our wireless keyboard and mouse (Apple's Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse, specifically) without any driver hacks. Streak Smart, who made this discovery, had the same experience as us with its iGo Stowaway keyboard and an unknown mouse -- typing was as smooth as cutting butter with a hot knife, but the mouse couldn't do much due to the lack of pointer and scrolling support. If you insist, the forthcoming Nokia N8 is confirmed to support both devices natively, but it shouldn't be long before we see a mouse hack for the green bot. Hands-on video after the break, and do also head over to the source link if you need more convincing.
P.S. -- Since commenter dudeville was asking, here's how to pair the Apple keyboard with the Streak: type a four-digit PIN on the phone when prompted, then type the same number on the keyboard and press the enter key. Good luck!

@nefnet13
The difference though is that these new phones are a lot more powerful than before. I really don't know what they would equate to as a desktop but I can see these phones eventually replacing laptops and desktops and maybe even tablets in the future.
Imagine a dumb tablet or desktop and simply plug the phone into it.
Dell ... I would like to buy a streak ... Is it going to be sold in the USA sometime soon? I am growing impatient. July is too vague an answer ... Give me a date :)
I've been patiently waiting for this device. AT&T wanted to schlep a Backflip on me. AND give me a contract even though my iPhone was acting a fool. After some convincing they gave me a backflip sans contract to tide me over till this comes out.
dell...att....i'm waiting cash in hand...
@VLangs
A Backflip? My sincere condolences.
who noticed the guy either has a prototype apple keyboard or a knockoff. because the apple keyboard does not have a enter key like that. here is the real apple keyboard. http://www.apple.com/keyboard/
@geektronic No, that's just a typical UK keyboard layout.

@Richard Lai
You seem like you are all over the place. Where do you live.
@geektronic That's the International version, dear Mister America-is-the-world
@geektronic London.
@Yoshi1080
Dear mister canada. I will have you know.
@geektronic Stap me I didn't think it was possible to be that insular. I thought the internet would expand people's horizons but noooo. Do me a fave and search for QWERTZ and AZERTY for started - there's a whole world waiting to be discovered by you down your internet connection :)
what i like about Richard Lai (aside from everything) is that he actually comments on his own blog entries and answers questions. To be fair, Joanna Stern does as well, but not like The Richard
How many N1's do you have?! :D
Well I've got an apple bluetooth keyboard (latest revision)
And It doesnt connect at all, mostly because when the Streak asks for a PIN code (4 digits) to enter for the pairing process to be completed i dont know what to enter.
Ive been looking for this code for a week. So Richard, if youde love to share your secret youlle make a beleiver out of me and perhaps save this streak from heading back to O2.
Cheers
@dudeville
So yes. Richards powers now extend beyond the feeble limitations of material physics. Shortly after posting, it occured to me that during pairing when it asks for the pin i should type some digits: ex. 1111. And then while it attempts pairing do the same on my apple keyboard and hit enter. So in short a) start pairing, when it asks for pin, type 1111, b)then as it attempts to connect type: 1111 , then hit [Enter] on the bluetooth keyboard.
And Voila. It does infact work.
Youve made my day?
@dudeville :)
@ Richard Lai, even if the do a hack to make it work better with bluetooth devices if the device hasn't support for dual profiles natively it will never work with a keyboard and a mouse. In this aspect the N8 is better.
Holy crap, there goes the last barrier to my buying the streak, I was concerned about it not having a physical keyboard :D Well unless the touchscreen turns out to handle multitouch nexus one style but this doesn't seem very likely.
Seriously Dell bring this thing out fast and update it to 2.2 already!
@Boogydefarno
No charging problems here at all in fact I've been stunned by the amazing battery life and also how quick it is to charge. I have Auto Sync on as well as Seven Push E-Mail for 16hrs, WiFi for 12-14hrs and Weather updating every 6hrs in fact everything on bar GPS which is only on when needed. I'm usually at about 28-35% when i charge it in fact after 16hrs uptime i still have 48% battery who says Android sucks for battery life then?
As for your battery cover problem i had this when i first got my Streak and it was freaking me out until i realised you really need to make sure the battery cover is slid as far to the right as it can go. Since then it has stayed in place for two weeks now without issue. Hope that helps although no idea what's going on with your charging issue I'm afraid.
@Dogmann Thanks I contacted o2 regarding the issue with charging on the Steak. The rep I spoke to said that they had a couple of Streaks owners reporting the same problem. They are doing a straight doorstep one for one swap tomorrow with a new unit. Can't complain with that. Overall tho the Streak is by far the nicest tablet I have owned.
Is it 2.2?
@netsql Apparently O2's already testing 2.2 on the Streak now. No concrete release date though.
@netsql
Not 2.2 yet but it will be coming direct from Dell OTA in September according to Engadget and i believe them as all they have been right on the money about the Streak so far.
Also i should point out that Dell have done a really good job with their custom UI IMO and especially with their widgets.
