We love us some high end equipment, but we also know everyone has to start somewhere and when you're starting from scratch, any surround sound system is better than no surround sound at all. The Insignia 5.1 system pictured above is available now from Best Buy at $399 and is hard to beat at that price. The specs claim it pumps out 110 watts per channel and includes a 120 watt powered sub. Best of all is it features the Audyssey audio technology, which makes proper calibration a real breeze. And in case you been eyeing a 3DTV, it has three HDMI inputs that are 1.4 compatible and will pass all the latest 3D formats.

I would never buy anything from Insignia (even though they're all made by different companies), or a HTIB for that matter. I guarantee those speakers are crap.
@engadgetcomexcludeengadget
I agree that those speakers probably aren't that great, but if you'd like to have surround sound you could pick it up and replace the speakers later when you have more money.
I've had an insignia tv for 5 years now. It's the SD tv in the house. Still way better picture than the JVC I gave to my parents about the same time as I bought this.
Perpetuating the prohibition on being poor (Obamanomics), everyone thinks they need to deliver the latest features for the welfarish price.
Even if this setup sounds better than a B&W Diamond series speaker, you should be beaten up pretty badly for buying the insignia.. Now a Dynex 5.1 system, I would buy :D
With the nearly limitless cheesy 5.1 systems out there, why does this one get an article?
@nrb
100% agreed. I like how this is 3D capable, if I walked into anyone's house and saw a $3000+ 3DTV hanging on the wall with this HTIB in their living room I would throw up.
If this is 110w/ch, then I'm 8' tall and use an iPad as an iPhone. Seriously, how is this worthy of being mentioned? Just goes to show how much the audio industry has gone from important to an after thought. And with shit like this being "news," I see why no one cares. Quality sound is long gone. I hate when people say "I don't need to spend $600 on a HT because i'm not an audiophile." seriously these people piss me off.

i'dd rather have this posted as NEWS than another stupid Apple update or iPhone getting a stupid new box or steve jobs taking a piss..
ANY NEWS is better than all that overhyped religion a.k.a Apple
Snobs piss me off.

Wow. What a bunch of elitist snobs.
I find it interesting that years after it's release I still find Logitech's Z-5500 series 5.1 system to be extremely competitive for sound quality and price. Sure it's a technically a computer system but I picked mine up for
The HD Insignia Receiver does one hell of a job. I never had a problem with it. Sound quality really depends on the speakers. that why i have great in wall speakers. Just dont get sony speakers. Their the Dane Cook of speakers.
Wowwie! Most of you wake up at the wrong side of the bed?
It's $400 with some of today's latest technologies. Not everyone can afford you high ticket stuff. Like the article says, some people have to start somewhere. I bet this system sounds a lot better than the downfiring 15w standard TV speakers.
I don't follow th HTiB market, but do many offer a powered sub? My first system didn't. Pretty neat.
