Is there an HDMI 1.4-compatible Blu-ray player in your future? LG's BX580 wants to be your player of
today. The device is now shipping, more or less falling in line with the "
month or two" estimate we got back in May, but clocking in at $100 less than the $400 we'd expected it at. Sure it's listed on Amazon's page at $399, but add it to your shopping cart and (spoiler alert) it's actually just $299.86. That's a relative bargain -- though we'd still have a hard time choosing this over an equally 3D-ready
PS3.
OH MY GOD NO WAY!
@uckApple
what's bluray? Oh yeahh..........
@jediram
That thing the PS3 has that allows it to have much much better games than the 360?
You can still play great games on the 360, all you need is 1 disc --
Oh wait..
@jediram Jedi Scum
I watched a demo of Monsters vs. Aliens 3D at Best Buy yesterday and was blown away. Of course it's pricey now but a few years down the road I might bite. The cool thing is that if you're out of 3D content to watch, the TV will still be an HDTV and your 3D Blu-ray player will still be a Blu-ray player.
@aubreyq Plus it's a 120Hz TV
@uckApple
Troll alert
Well if you're not playing videogames, I would just get a regular blu-ray player. They run better/faster than the PS3. And the PS3 isn't 3D movie ready yet.
nothing is better than ps3!
never was and never will be.
@benderfender
THANK YOU.
@benderfender
You guys need some privacy for that circle jerk?
@admlshake Seriously, I have both the 360 and the PS3 and I rarely feel the need for this Fanboyism. Give it up already and stop with the , My 360 is bettar then ur PS3!!, Nu Uhhh, my PS3 is teh Awesome!!!!
Tell me how you idiots turn a Blu-Ray item into an XBOX 360 vx PS3 item. They have an entire site dedicated to both the XBOX 360 and PS3 on Joystik why don't you setup under a bridge there.
@benderfender
Im a PS3 owner and i must say the 360 is my next console with the added features (Zune pass/netflix search), slim down frame with noise reduction. Bonus alert: Kinect can be used for the media (Zune/Netflix). Im sorry but Ill be damned if im waving wands with light bulbs on top to control my media.
PS3 will have a place in my heart. She has been good to me for all these years but i think Sony has been running in place with the PS3 for years now. They did a descent job in slimming down the console but ripping off the Wii was a downer. Integration with the rest of the company (TV/Computers/phones) seems far down the road. MSFT is on the right path and thatll be the path i take with them. Its been great Sony but im outty five thousand.
@benderfender Well this has HDMI 1.4 which supports 1080p 3D the PS3 only has HDMI 1.3 so will only support 1080i 3D. Therefore I would say this is a better player for 3D. Please no PS3 vs 360 the articles not about that.
Uh, since when is the PS3 3D movie ready? 3D-games, certainly with the additional expense of a 3D bravia.
I'd still prefer a regular blu ray player over Sony's incredibly locked down gaming platform/bluray player.
@Yardie
Sony has said (I think) that it will get the feature in a coming firmware update. Which means they'll probably add that, but then take away other things.
@admlshake Sony has s said a 3D movie update will be out by this fall. I'm not sure why it wasn't included with the game update, but oh well. The PS3 has certainly been the best investment of a Blu-Ray player, considering it has gotten every imaginable upgrade since its release.

@Yardie
For the same price it is hard to understand why someone wouldn't just get the PS3 as Blu Ray player.
It is the most upgradeable Blu Ray. You know Sony is going to support it for years and years. How many other Blu Ray players will be getting a free 3d upgrade for instance.
I got my Blu Ray for $99, from a drive for my HTPC, but if I was going stand alone it would be PS3.
@admlshake Haha, nice on the take stuff away. However, the OP might mean that "3D-ready" (emphasize when you say "equally 3D-ready" as the article does) should imply if you have the TV, the glasses and the disc that your PS3 can make those images *pop*.
I don't know how to define 3D-ready, but in the HDTV days when things were "HDTV-ready" it meant get a piece of hardware and some content, which the PS3 isn't currently able to accomplish.
@juanvaldez It will be the same situation as HD Ready and Full HD. As anything with an HDMI 1.3 port including the PS3 will only do up to 1080i 3D not 1080p.
Not a bad thing since you are getting it as a free update for hardware that has been around a long time but I hope not too many people buy a HDMI 1.3 3D TV and then find out about 1.4.
I have an LG Blu-Ray player that still won't play Disney releases ("Up", and "Toy Story") and no firmware upgrade is in sight. I wouldn't buy another LG Blu-Ray player again. They don't seem interested in issuing firmware updates for "obsolete" hardware.
@lorax1284
Under the player settings you need to change the default language setting from original to english, then all your pixar movies will play.
@trk2 I will try that out immediately: I checked on the LG Website, and they have erased the existence of my player model, so I had pretty much given up. Thanks
Never buy LG. Their labor warranty only lasts 90 days (parts is a full year), and they have a tendency to quit working after just 4-7 months. Then, LG will stick you with the bill. They'll recoup that $100 saved when you pay them to replace a failed optical drive half a year from now.
You dont need a 3D blu ray player. Samsung Plasma 3D does it. It has 600hz refresh rate, enough said. Sony and some others do not have 2D to 3D which limits you to Monsters vs Aliens 3D (worst movie to show off your 3D TV). First of all, anyone that says that 2D to 3D conversion is not good or great does not own this TV or has not spent enough time with it. It is flawless. I mean perfect. I have been watching Avatar on regular Blu-Ray and with 2D to 3D conversion and it makes it the best thing I ever saw, anywhere. I watched Avatar at Imax 3D 4 times and I remember ecery scene (I know what it is supposed to look like). This is the same if not better since the colors pop and the sharpnes of the picture can not be put into words. The 3D effect is phenomenal and it never fails, creates pop ups or ghosting. If you want a 3DTV and watch Avatar today buy this TV. Second, It will turn anything into 3D, again flawlesly. I watched my home videos in 3d, Scarface DVD, it all looks amazing. Video games too, MW2, NFS Shift puts you in the action, I mean any feed, game show, dvd, bluray, etc. You do not need to buy a 3D Player after this. I had it for about a week now and it may be the best thing I ever bought.
I have an LG-BD390 and it's a GREAT blu-ray player. Sure I have a PS3 but I prefer dedicated devices. I mean, how many of you had a PS2 and never purchased a separate DVD player? PS, after watching blu-ray, DVD is a joke
@blackacex222 You must really hate universal remotes too. Do you also have a dedicated T.V. for each device?
