To say our tip box has been inundated with reports of
iOS 4 issues today would be something of an understatement. So far, those on staff seem to be running cool (with the exception of some slow down on our gold build downloads), but obviously you're a larger sample size with so far widely disparate reports. So tell us, is iOS 4 causing you grief? If so, how? (Note: if you're having multiple problems, pick what you'd consider most troublesome.)

Contacts are not syncing with Gmail.
i had an iphone 3g but now because of ios 4, i don't. the update pretty much bricked my phone so i'm havin to play musical backup phones until thursday =/
My backup didn't work so I lost my pictures, notes, etc.
You need to do a complete restore, not from backup, that's what I did from the first GM seed and it worked perfectly
Mms disappeared Gina restore and try again later
I can no longer stream internet radio through the browser (via the ESPN Radio app or reciva.com). Ironically, this eliminates one multitasking function I already had before because I could close Safari and still listen while checking Twitter, messages, email, etc.
No problems with OS4 here. Working smooth just as advertised.
Photos now look terrible on the 3rd gen ipod touch i updated. They all appear badly out of focus. The download was pretty quick though.
All my podcasts got messed up. I couldn't scrub through any of them and they all displayed "--:--" instead of the time. Redownloading through iTunes fixed the issue, though.
I set up my pages with the new folder systemy thingy, and after going into my settings to kill the Nike + app, it completely reset everything, and not even to my original setup. That sucked, had to completely re-organize everything, but other then that I've had no problems, and multitasking is definitely sweet.
Wish they would've updated Mobile Safari somehow though.
Mine took literally 4 hours to back up. Other than that, it's great!
@Justintimenine Mine took 6 >.< and im getting lag, my screen has trouble rotating when i text in landscape and the status bar stays verticle, all the photos i ever took with my phone are gone, AND my safari is gone.....which isn't as much of a problem cuz i use opera...but still wtf...
Other, I haven't installed it seeing as how my iPhone broke on its own.
My iPhone 3G was very slow and choppy when the upgrade completed, but upon rebooting it was much speedier. But then I noticed the Wi-Fi settings were grayed-out in the Settings app and it said "No Wi-Fi". I had to reset the network settings and reboot again to get the Wi-Fi to turn itself back on. But now everything seems to be working just fine.
I had no issues on iPhone 3GS...worked like a charm. A different story on my iPhone 3G. The backup did not happen at all...got stuck at the very beginning and stayed stuck :-(
Well this is something I'm sure apple could fix. The 2G iPod I'm updating says it will erase all the media whereas the 3G iPod didn't. I'm betting this is something to get people to buy 3G iPods.
iBooks is screwing me over. It keeps crashing my ipod when I download shit through it, and it won't sync with my other epub books.
The green phone call multitask bar randomly showed up top and the call time went up in a super speed fashion haha. It counted from 0 to 10 minutes in about 2 seconds. This has only happened once. And a folder I filled with apps constantly shows an app update bar on it.
I got Error -20 and now won't sync at all. I'm on 32g 3GS.
It lets me sync up to a point, then crashes. I got to a point where it syncs everything from podcast to mp3, videos and apps, but then gives me a -20 error message, and stalls. I also restored it, same !
Anyone can help or got the same problem?!
apple's anticompetetive business practices are a problem.
All my Photos got erased =/ so lame
Is there some way to enable the new OS to automatically handle contractions in messages? "its" always became "it's" in previous versions. If not, this is going to get on my nerves quickly.
@markgm Oh, it had to relearn them. Carry on!
I've noticed a bit of sluggishness on my 3GS. Definitely noticeable, but not frustratingly so. Having used WinMo for 3 years before my iPhone, this really isn't bad.
I voted heavy slowdowns because there wasn't a "minor slowdown" option. Otherwise, I'm happy with iOS 4. Using folders, I shrunk from 9 pages of apps to just two. I'm finally listening to pandora and browsing the web. Everything works well, except for some minor Google Sync issues and a little bit of sluggishness. Overall, it gets a 9 out of 10.
That's funny, my droid never has any problems. Taste it apple
I began installing iOS4 on my 2nd gen iPod Touch at 8pm... It's now after 10 and the status bar indicates that I've only made it through about 2% of the process. My computer is not at all slow and I backed up and synced the iPod before I began the install.
iOS 3 took about 10 minutes last year if I remember correctly.
WTF?
Update ruined my photos, they are now all pixelated and poor quality.
@Son Goku Same here, photos are all pixelated. Gonna try reloading them later.
mine cant even get passed the back up stage....any advice?
Problem #1: I can't download the update! It keeps getting a server error. Will other people stop downloading so that I can get it -- please??
@wikiterra
I'm guessing you're getting iTunes Error 9006, correct?
If you haven't resolved it yet, just keep trying. It took me 5 attempts before it worked. Before that attempt, it would fail at around 75%.
My XM app won't load anymore on iOS4
@angelusp
You know what? I'm freaking tired of hearing people complain about Engadget posting too many Apple articles. I guarantee you if you go on Gizmodo, and scroll through there posts, the MAJORITY of there posts will be about Apple, especially when the iPhone 4 first leaked. It was ridiculous and I couldn't stand it. I'm just letting you know Engadet is definitely not the worst out there when it comes to Apple news. Just use the URL that concorde105 posted.
Disclaimer: I am NOT an Apple fanboy, although I do like the iPhone 4, I'm waiting for Windows Phone 7 and am I'm considering Android before I make my decision.
I've updated and jailbroken without a problem. I even set up Google Contacts Sync for the first time.
I love how I've compacted down 6+ pages down to 2 thanks to folders. (And I didn't even put my most-used apps in folders)
Been running the GM since it was released--only issue I had was today when all my contacts disappeared. Strangely enough, though, after about five minutes they slowly came back and now they're all there again.
Been using iOS4 since WWDC since am a dev. Can you say bugs?
- Bluetooth A2DP glitches when connected using multiple profiles.
- ocasional crashes.
- several un-tested iOS4 apps crash (Stick Wars, Hero of Sparta, ShopSavy, iGoozex, etc)
- breakage in apps using iOS 3's location APIs.
- notifications still suck, and not anywhere near in a good way.
- Bluetooth doesn't gracefully support multiple devices connected at once.
- Background running apps dont have a quick easy way to kill. (yes I know there is a GUI way but it is still slow and cumbersome)
@angelusp
I don't have any Apple products but reading this site helped me to warn my G.F. and sister away from ios4 for the time being so... It's still helpful.
For full Gmail sync on my iPhone 3G, I had to create a new Gmail setting to get Email/Calendar/Notes sync, and an exchange account to the same Gmail account for just Contacts. A minor a pain, but works quite well now.
the status bar was stuck in the same spot for over an hour so i disconnected the phone (probably a horrible idea) and now its stuck in restore mode. i think i'm screwed.
If WIFI is on, my 2nd gen ipod touch's battery gets completely drained in a day.
My only "problem" is I have an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile and I'm scared to upgrade in case it re-locks it or something.
it took absolutely forever to upgrade, and then my capacity went don from 7.something gb to 6.9 gb im sitting here like what happened to my other gb?
@Printice it does seem to be slightly snappier though, and prettier...but thats about it, camera is cool pictures seem nicer, could be that it just reset the brightness (i had it turned down for battery purposes)
I'm not having any issues. Everything has been working well since I installed iOS 4 almost 10 days ago. I was just glad the updated Pandora launched today.
I received the following at the end of the process:
"An error occurred while restoring this iPhone (-402620395)."
My phone had the OS but little else. It is not syncing and seems to be bringing over the correct files, but I won't be able to say for sure until it is done.
@BharatiJanta Seems kind of worthless to complain about coverage you can easily ignore (or so I always thought). Also when you post a story that revolves around Apple's mobile OS, don't you think you will get a lot of responses ABOUT said OS?
I'm just happy Apple is giving out the upgrade for free to Touch owners personally, one less thing to pay for.
Since installing iOS4, my MobileMe keeps wanting to delete my bookmarks on my MacBook. Confusing.
So far just voicemail password got lost, had to reset, kept popping up constantly asking for it even when they did nothing with the phone!

IPod software update (5 hours remaining)

Yes, I know I could have started things earlier by ignoring my job / life / responsibilities. It does seem like under-provisioning is the new standard for customer service, though. Are you telling me that Apple couldn't predict the demand level? I call bullsh*t.
@Matty K I downloaded the same update starting at 10pm EST and finishing at 10:18pm, so maybe you just have an unlucky path to Apple's server or there is some other network congestion going on.
