Altec Lansing serves up angular Octiv Mini iPod / iPhone sound system
We know -- you need another iPod sound system about as bad as you need another mortgage, but why leave any one room lacking, right? Altec Lansing has cranked out a rather unorthodox looking device this fine evening, certified to play nice with iPhone and iPod and deliver soothing jazz to whatever ears are fortunate enough to get close. The Octiv Mini (M102; $59.95) is yet another iPod / iPhone alarm clock, though this one ships with the Alarm Rock app in order to customize one's wake-up tunes from their bedside. Full specs should be popping up in that source link momentarily, and it'll ship to the last five remaining Americans who actually need one of these type devices in July.
SMALL IN SIZE, BIG ON SOUND: ALTEC LANSING INTRODUCES NEW OCTIV MINI MULTI-FUNCTION AUDIO DOCK
Altec Lansing Octiv Mini Delivers Exceptional Audio Quality Plus Free Full-Featured iPhone
Alarm App
MILFORD, PA – JUNE 22, 2010 – Altec Lansing today introduced the space saving
Octiv Mini (M102) audio dock to give iPhone and iPod users a versatile way to charge
their devices while enjoying crystal clear sound. At home, in the dorm or at work, the
Octiv Mini pulls double-duty as a functional alarm clock when combined with the free
new Altec Lansing custom Alarm Rock app.
Whether charging up, rocking out or waking up, the Octiv Mini delivers the amazing
audio quality that is a hallmark of Altec Lansing products. Pound for pound, the Octiv
Mini holds its own against bulkier speaker systems, and is even more appealing when
considering similarly priced stand-alone chargers. Included is the free Alarm Rock app*
for the iPhone and iPod which acts as a full-featured digital alarm clock complete with
time display and an oversized snooze button. The Altec Lansing Alarm Rock app is
available in the iTunes app store as a free download. Users can choose to wake or sleep
to their favorite audio files and songs while enjoying a fully customizable interface to
match even the most eclectic taste.
"Because the Octiv Mini functions as a dock, a charger and an alarm clock with the
included app, it represents an amazing value that will be appreciated by those who will
not compromise on sound quality for a smaller footprint," stated Steve Schlangen, Altec
Lansing product manager. "Music is an integral part of life for many people and we're
making it easy for users to experience great sound in a small package or wake up
immersed in their favorite music."

Yeah, nice kitchen.
@Ryan1000000
What's not sweet is the craftsmanship of that light switch install in the background.
@Ryan1000000
That sure is one sweet tap!
@Ryan1000000

@Ryan1000000

lol this product does not deserve it's own article
@trey992 It's a gadget so yes it does.
@trey992
so you're saying they should have an article for every single gadget released? there would be 100's a day
@trey992
Lol you replied to yourself?
Idiot.
Ok engadget, you are right, I definitely don't need another ipod speaker, yet I'm really liking this one as an alarm clock.
Plus, Altec Lansing has been pumping out some real nice sounding speakers lately, like that boom box they have (beats the bose sounddock)
What app is that they're using?
@UrAwFuL Nevermind. Should've read it completely before commenting.
Does it look like that iPhone has a case on it? I am looking for a sound dock that allows just for this. And I don't agree with the flippant tone here, I do not have a sound dock for my iPhone or iPod, and most of my friends don't either...so what's that all about?
@herojig we've found the 5!
@herojig
I also don't have an iphone dock or know anyone who does. I didn't think people actually bought these things.
The Black Flag bars blend in with the kitchen decor.
anyone know what lockscreen theme that is ?
Odd, no plugs on Octiv Mini, so this device powers on batteries or using the power of the iPod/iPhone?. You've got a nice kitchen... but can it play some music? One last thing, where's the volume control?
I just feel the need to point this out...the iphone/ipod has a built in alarm app. I've been using it for months. With 3 snoozeable or not snoozeable alarms, it works great. I sleep like a rock, but the ipod touch's speaker is loud enough for it to wake me up.
Just sayin'
