Google setting up music store later this year, looking for search and Android synergy
Remember that chart that pointed out the differences between Google, Apple and Microsoft? Well, it's looking increasingly like Google is intent on filling any and all gaps in its portfolio. Those good old unnamed sources have been talking, originally to CNET last week and to the Wall Street Journal today, and disclosing Google's supposed intent to introduce its very own music store. This would initially encompass a web store where you can stream or download tracks, with a search tie-in that'll get your money into Google's pocket in the fastest possible way. Subsequent plans are said to include Android integration in 2011 -- something that Google rather nonchalantly demoed at its I/O conference last month. Of course, none of this is as yet confirmed, but it looks like Apple and Google will be competing across yet another front -- hold on tight.

Who cares! Most of you steal music anyway from torrents sights.
Other than that, the music you'll get from google won't be that much cheaper than iTunes.
You just can't discount intellectual property like music as if it were coal.
More junk from the tech demo software company - Google.
I hate you Google! Stop competing with Apple.
@amnost Yeah. Steve Job is the Leader. The Leader is great. The Leader knows everything. The Leader. The Leader. (I assume you were just being sarcastic).
Companies will join Google Tunes to say F off Apple we are in control not you. If Google plays their cards right they will make those companies think they are in charge.
@Seven2k Mean while you use Android, Gmail, Google maps, Google music, Google TV heck Google everything. And who do you think is in control?
Google is using third parties as proxies and you don't see it. They steal data and you guys still act like they are the banner of freedom. Hook line and sinker.
What a joke.
GOOGLE IS spreading like hot cakes. good job google getting into the music. ANdroid is going to rock even more with their own music compilation
The thing is, Google CEO knows everything Apple is doing. Because he was one of them. lol :)
Google has basically turned into Apple's "single white female" crazy stalker. And we're all the better for it.
Next up: Google Healthcare
@Redyz Lmao
Hope that Google doesnt fuck this up. It would be nice for another competitor to enter the ring. I just hope they dont half ass it like Microsoft. I do like Zune marketplace but they need more content. They need more music, not just new main stream stuff but a much more encompassing catalog, they need more tv shows and movies. Heck even somehow integrate Last.FM into Zune. They have it for Xbox why not the Zune Software?
So I hope Google does it right, launches globally with enough content to rival that of iTunes. Same goes for Microsoft, hoping that they too figure out what needs to be fixed and added. That way we have 4 online video and music stores to choose from. The fourth being Amazon.
@EmGee Its amazing how skewed the view of a lot of pople are. I love competition and would love to see Google create a competetive service. But Honestly its amazing to see how ungrateful people are.
1 The DRM mess was the RIAA Fault. They realized the mistake and then allowed vendors to sell DRM free music.
2. Prices for music went down because of Apple.
You guys can bitch and moan about your personal gripe/hate of Apple like some kiddie. The truth is Apple did a lot for all of us to not be forced to pay for Albums or Singles at inflated prices. Remeber how we never got the savings from the record labels mass producing CDs.
There are a lot of professional complainers around here that can't remember anything past a few months.
@MadSkillz Im not exactly bitching as you say, more like saying I want 4 balanced online media stores and how they should all have as much content as itunes that way we all have more than one place to choose from. Thats not a bad thing.
Didnt say anything bad about iTunes either. I may not use it but I havent said anything bad about it. I also dont think Im ungrateful, Im hoping that Google does something great here, Im not saying they will fall on their face. Some may hate the fact that Google is attempting to enter this market but it doesnt bother me. Microsoft did and I do like what they have as I said before. All I want is more content that way more people can see Zune is pretty darn good. I am thankful for what Amazon, Zune, iTunes, etc provide, but for another company to compete with itunes they do need more content to garner more attention and members. Again im not saying one is better than the other all I want is 4 balanced online media stores. Im sure others can agree that having a choice is better than simply going to one place in terms of this topic.
You might have misconstrued what I meant when I said 'Rival that of iTunes.' I didn't say I hate them or want them to loose in any way but what i do want is more competitors to join the ranks with them in terms of being top media providers. Maybe its idealistic and maybe the truth is there can only be one but doesnt stop me from wanting more choices.
Wait the minute, where the heck is 2.2? What happened? I thought it's supposed to come out "soon"?
Android bot will pee all over Apple !

Buying another service like Napster would actually make a lot of sense (I know they won't, as Best Buy already owns them). I'd love to see Google add online storage for music. It would tip Apple's hand.

I would love a good zunepass alternative, I just wanna be able to listen to any music out there for a monthly fee, I could care less about actually owning my music, I already own all the best stuff.
I love the way Android users that use GMail, Google search, Google maps and Google music and I'm sure Google video services at some point call Apple users sheep.
Like I have said. Google just has invisible fences. Some how they make their sheep think they are not sheep. Pure Genius.
These hypocrites need to take a good look in the mirror.
Music store for google hey? They better make a good one, because it will be very hard to become a top competitor with apples already very popular iTunes store.
Please have lossless music! Its is a must have! its 2010, mp3 doesnt cut it anymore.
Whose side are you on?
Yesterday saw an interesting coincidence of stories hit the wires: on the European side of the Atlantic, the BPI, Britain’s biggest recording-industry association, announced it had sent a cease-and-desist notice to Google with regard to links to copyright-infringed music files. Meanwhile, in the U.S., the Wall Street Journal reported on (further) rumours that Google was planning on launching a music download store and subscription service to initially run on Android handsets.
