Leaked Telstra roadmap points to October Windows Phone 7 launch, HTC Mozart device
Microsoft still hasn't gotten any more specific than "holiday 2010" for a Windows Phone 7 launch date, but it looks like we may now have a bit more specificity courtesy of Australian carrier Telstra. According to a leaked snippet from a purportedly authentic Telstra roadmap, the hereto unheard of Windows Phone 7-based HTC Mozart will be launching sometime in October -- presumably coinciding with the launch of Windows Phone 7 itself. As you may be able to tell, however, the phone pictured is actually a poor mockup (grey copy and paste border around the phone, Sense UI behind the WP7 UI, etc.) of an HTC Desire, but none other than Conflipper says that the Mozart is indeed a real device and, incidentally, headed to T-Mobile US as well.

Is it just me or HTC has been coming out with a lot of phones lately..?
@UrAwFuL
At least they come out with excellent, quality phones.
I've been using HTC phones for the past three years, they're just excellent ever since the Touch Diamond.
@Paul Elmy
Oh yes, I think that picture looks like a HTC Desire, crammed in with Windows Phone 7. Is that a photoshop or what?
@UrAwFuL
No keyboard ey. Wonder if coming out with a pretty opening phone is a good idea. Definitely not G1 ish.
@Paul Elmy
Read the article its all there.
@UrAwFuL
I doubt that HTC would use the ugly round brick nexus one as a Windows Phone.
@kid300 Just admit androids ugly
If you bothered to read the article, it pretty much tells you that was a HTC Desire.
@UrAwFuL
Really not liking the desing. I hope they come out with good looking phones in the future.
@UrAwFuL, what you should be noticing is that almost all phones for WP7 have been GSM so far. That HTC HD3 better be Sprint. :)
Better 3 years late then never.
@synthesized it is definitely worth the wait
@synthesized
The platform is extremely unique.
@Paul Elmy
A bit too unique. I expect to see a way to resize the icons, get notifications, run flash and possibly host usb keyboards and printers.
@Oldarney
Just like the old days.
@synthesized
doubt htc would re-use the ugly gray brick nexus
@kid300 Just admit androids ugly Didn't you already say that?
Windows Phone 7 Rocks!
@Sr1n1 i know! i love my windows 7 ph --oh wait
Is that.... Android coming out its side?... =O
@TruUnknowN
it sure looks like it! hahahaha
@TruUnknowN
It could be WP7 running on top of Android,
Multi OS Treat =)
@hasnainhyder1
Crunchy on the outisde, gooey on the inside?
@TruUnknowN
Swype left for Android, Swype right for WP7..........equals me swyping my pants!
@TruUnknowN
It's obviously fake. Aside from that, it's the same screenshot from the MWC release on top of a Desire. BS I call.
WHOOOOO! one thing that telstra is good at !!!
Leaking upcoming WP7 phones ^^
@oringal if they can't be good at pricing, technical support or reliability... I guess they had to succeed at something
@onyajaws
Their pricing isn't too bad now actually, for phone and text anyway, data is still a joke except the iPad pre paid.
Seriously looking at churning from Optus to Telstra for the windows phone 7. I get 3-10 dropped calls a day from Optus, they have to offer an unlimited plan for the same price as Telstra's $1000 cap so you don't eat up flagfall recalling people.
@onyajaws
haha, well done.
Is it just me or does that look like a Nexus One?
Look's like I will be buying my Windows Phone 7 device from the US in that case...
@mackenziepricee Ignore me. Would help if I read the article first.
For $49 per month in Australia you can't possibly pick up a real high end phone (without an upfront payment), especially from Telstra. Expect a mid-range device first methinks.
@aeth
Desire's like 65$ at the moment? Same hardware running WP7 in a few months could easily be $50.
@aeth
yea i was wondering the same, the Desire came free on the 79 and WinPo7 on 49... wow
Telstra are like Aus'es Verizon and Spirt, While Voda and 3 are like At&t
Android, WinMo and now WinPo7 vs iPhone
I do like Microsoft's software but this time I think that Windows Phone is too hampered compared to MeeGo, Android and Symbian. If only Android had MeeGo/Symbian like multitasking...
ahh.. the wait becomes harder. still debating between moving on from my (somewhat ancient) iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4, or waiting on what the upcoming 'droid and WP7 offerings are..
I wish my HTC Desire could run Windows Phone 7
Looks faked to me, unfortunately. It would be awesome if Microsoft could give a solid date :(
@weesals
Looks like a placeholder more than faked. They probably have a name and pricing but HTC haven't given them pictures of the real device.
@Bratyr It just looks like the crease was applied in photoshop, there is a definite box around the phone and android behind the screen. Its probably more likely that its just a placeholder image like you said though, heres to hoping!

Not sure why I read it as "$49 crap"..
THAT IS PHOTOSHOP!!!!
ITS AN HTC DESIRE....
HERE IS THE ORIGINAL THREAD IN XDA:

YEAHHH !!! How i want this OS badly :-P
@smover i'm wondering .. have anyone of you actually used the wp7 device? or are you all just hoping it will be cool just like you did with courier?
@Formul i used only the emulator yet, and watched all videos i could find to check every available aspect of the UI and the system specs... So i think i have an accurate point of vue of what's coming in october :) And you know, basically WP7 share it's basic with the Zune HD interface and i'm a big fan of it since a while !!
The innovative upgradable 'hubs' concept is something so powerfull i can't wait to get on my Phone, and this plus the UI, pure and efficient is the next generation of mobile OS for me... This is the next step : OS evolutivity and upgrades instead of stand-alone apps only. Both are complementary, but iOS nor Android offers that kind of flexibility.
@Formul by the way what's the point with Courrier ?
The GUI concepts of Courrier are incredible, sadly it is not part of Windows 7 Compact :/
@smover Seriously? It's windows phone 6 with a skin. Same shit Microsoft has been pulling for YEARS. Anyone who claims anything else hasn't looked at the underlying framework. It is CLEARLY based off the Windows CE garbage that hasn't worked since 2001.
THAT PHONE HAS 5 BUTTONS, SO IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO BE WP7, THIS IMAGE IS A FAKE!!
For all of those that aren't Aussie, the style of this is typical Telstra. Even the dodgy work on the WP7 cut n' paste over Sense.
It's just an HTC Desire used as a placeholder. Taking it with a pinch of salt at the moment.
@gnargle
Agreed. Doesn't the built-in firefox search plug in work within these comments? I searched for "desire" and no results turned up so posted my own comment.
