SCHWEET!
My iPad just might finally be useful for something...
@banshee287 If it's not useful to you why did you buy one?
@MoonWalkerCTE
He's trying to compensate. He loves his iPad, and he just wants to kiss ass for both parties. Seriously, you need a $500 music control panel?
@MoonWalkerCTE
well actually, i received it as a gift
it's not to say that it's not a great device, but there are some seriously flaws with it
one of which is the inability for someone to carry it around normally like an iPhone or what not
@Jukah
i am definitely not trying to kiss ass
if anything, thats what you're trying to do
so eff off
@banshee287
Last sentence makes no sense.
"Has anyone really been far as decided to use even go want to do look more like?"
@Jukah
ummm, that made no sense whatsover
....even if there was a triple negative
@banshee287
Anyway, are you really saying this one app makes your $500 device useful? I think your just a fanboy in denial.
@Jukah
im not saying that this one app alone makes it useful
im just trying to say that there needs to be more apps like this - something that can actually utilize such a large touch screen, and this app seems like it's finally doing that. sure there are games that have been expanded to "HD", but having a control interface like this is definitely a good direction for apps and devs to go, no?
@Jukah
clearly you have not read the guidelines to posting on here
"please keep your comments relevant to this blog entry."
I'm not sure bringing my wife into this is really necessary
especially considering the fact that you haven't had a date in ohh how long has it been, 14 years? yea, burn.
@MoonWalkerCTE
Wow, I'm sensing someone who's not an impulse buyer. How are you going to have enough crap for a garage sale if you don't buy useless stuff?
@Jukah
unnecessary...
@Jukah
actually, i'm pretty sure that my comment was more relevant than yours
seeing as how i actually referred to the guidelines of the website that were posting on, while you're only criticizing me on what i'm saying
@banshee287
Because what you say is stupid? I talked about the iPad. The post, yo, the post. Anyway I use a dedicated remote for my ZonePlayers but it's always good to have one less. However, I don't keep my iPad in my living room and it just stays in my bag.
@banshee287 You think the iPad is bad, try owning a Kindle DX. You pretty much just read books. Period. I got it as a gift, and serioiusly it's awful. All my books are PDF from technical books to reading books, and the Kindle handles PDFs like BP handles the oil spill.
Did I mention there is no light, so I cant read in the dark?
@Jukah Right, because a $500 music panel is ALL that an iPad is.... /rolleyes
lookin good
cool
@hell hound
Sonos would be cooler if it didnt have a limit of 40,000 - 65,000 files in your collection. Check out the squeezebox, it has no limit and superior sound quality.
@jonjbayarea Actually, there is a workaround for the song limit. All I had to do was put all of my music on a uPnP server.
@eisenb11 Just to clarify it doesn't support any UPNP server, it only supports one: Windows Media Server. This in itself is a huge limitation, but you obviously know this since you claim to be running it.
@jonjbayarea thx. will do that asap
Come ON, Apple. Let's have an iTunes remote for iPad!
@Marmite Turkey
really? you want an itunes controller with an ipad?
i'm sure there are already apps out for that....
@banshee287 There are, but they all require clients on the desktop, and none are as full-featured as the iPhone remote app I used to use...
@Marmite Turkey
Agreed, Just create the Itunes Remote app in HD/IPAD form already APPLE!
@hated one All espnd does is use it as a monitor to show windows xp so they can draw the lines you see when you watch sports on tv.
When they said "controller" I was half-expecting a gamepad.
@Engadget
Why the hell must I edit my link to your site on a daily basis to add yet another /exclude? Why was "ipad" left out of the tags, or "apple"?
Could it be that traffic has dropped on all of your Apple ads, I mean "articles"? I've been noticing this more and more lately.
If you're going to continuously try to circumvent our /exlude's, then why not just do away with them all together?
BTW, this is my current link http://www.engadget.com/exclude/apple,itunes,ios,i os,ios4,iphone4,steve%jobs,ipad,ipod,ipod%20dock,iphone,osx,mac,imac/
Apparently I need to add "ipad controller,IpadController" now.
I come to this site because you do a decent job of summarizing tech articles from around the web (unfortunately not always giving proper credit, but that's another story). If your bias continues to grow I'll have to find another site to waste my clicks on. Big threat I know but I guess it's all I've got.
@Epyon
I agree. What's up with the lack of apple tags on apple posts? iPad accessories, iPhone updates, ... there are 3 apple posts today alone that aren't tagged.
I didn't know that you could use a csv list for the exclude option. Going to update mine now.
Engadget has posted 386 iPad articles/ads in the past 147 days. Crazy love for such a simple device.
Not bad at all. As a big fan of Sonos it is good to see them supporting yet another remote control alternative.
Now if I could only figure out why someone would spend $349 on the Sonos touchscreen controller...
@TheLoveDr I believe their controller, being part of their mesh network, is supposed to expand that network. That only really matters in large homes where multiple zones may be spread further apart.
I love Beck.
I really like the Sonos feature of independently controlling the music and volume on different locations. I wish Apple would release an iPad version of the Remote app with these features. Heck, I'll be happy with just the independent volume control.
Just want to bring up a really big negative about SONOS that reviewers seem to ignore. Sonos limits your collection to somewhere between 40,000 - 65,000 files depending on how elaborate your filenaming and tagging info is. That means if you have a medium to large music collection you cant access all of it. The squeezebox on the other hand has no such limit at a fraction of the price.
Actually, there is a workaround for the song limit. All I had to do was put all of my music on a uPnP server.
@eisenb11 You need to be a little more specific, claiming that you "put all my music on a UPNP server" is a bit disingenuous because at the moment Sonos only supports Windows Media Server for local libraries. Its not like it is working with Twonky. For most people this is a deal breaker since FLAC is not supported by this server.
@magic It is a bit disingenuous to say that this is a "deal breaker" for "most people". Most people don't use flac or have collections of more than 40,000 songs, let alone the absurdly low probability that they would have the combination of both. If you are one of the people that do, then Sonos isn't the right product for you, Squeezebox is the better solution. As far as the comparison, Sonos offers a better user experience for "most" people in its ease of use, scalibility, and now the iPad app.
